The Emonda is one of Trek’s family of road bikes. This is the lightweight bike. It first arrived in 2014. In 2017 it was relaunched with disc brakes. And in 2020 the Emonda has received a significant overhaul. New design. New OCLV 800 carbon-fibre. New T47 bottom bracket. New cable / hose routing. Yep, lighter and more aero than before.
Before we ride, we unbox it and build it.
This clip was filmed at Park Bikes, Olympic Park (Sydney, Australia).
Our mechanic for the day, Park Bikes owner Nash Kent, didn’t even look inside the box until we turned on the camera. We document the workshop session and get Nash’s thoughts on the latest iteration of a popular bike.
Part 1 of a series.

I have the 2019 Emonda SL5 (matte black with viper red frame colors). Fricken love the look of it. It has rim brakes which I’m fine with but will be upgrading the whole group set from 105 that came on it to either Ultegra or Dura Ace. Will also upgrade the wheel set at some point. Other than that, I love the frame and how the bike rides. This one in this video is fricken badass! Love its color scheme too.

Sweet color! I like the spacers under the stem. They look like a praying mantis egg sac. It will also prevent noobs riding with 30mm of spacers above their stem and sheering off the fork steerer at the stem bolt after a year of riding and racing. So around 7.2-7.3kg with pedals makes it the heaviest Emonda SLR ever. I dare say at that weight it means it will also be the strongest. The extra weight will mean a faster descend to make up time you lost on the climb.

Looks exactly like my Crux. “These are all new paint schemes .... that we pay our largest competitor to come up with” hahaha btw that’s not an integrated internal routing system up top. If the cables are showing under the bar it’s not “partially” integrated. It’s just NOT integrated. Like the bike though, too bad it gained weight

@chrismorton7998
@chrismorton7998 4 года назад
This is obviously a Trek sponsored channel. Why not be clear about the finish? Some might place an order with the orange option, only to find that's not what they wanted. Look closely, this is the coral option, not the orange option. The Project One app does a poor job of showing this. Look at the Domaine SLR6. Give away. So why no answer?

@@ride-media Thanks Rob for getting back to me. My message was a little rough. Caught me on an off day. I've watched your video quite a few times as I am looking at buying this bike, largely based on your videos and also some other research. I'm struggling with sizing though. I see you have gone with a 54 but I've not been able to ride an Emonda at my local Trekbikes shop. They had me try a 54 and 56 Domane and I preferred the 56 but I'm guessing that's not really representative of the Emonda sizing. I don't think the seat on a 56 will even go down to 72cm to the BB based on other reviews. Im 5'9'' with 31 inseam. Thoughts? Did Trek provide you with the color info? It sure looks like there's some pink in that color, hence my thinking it was coral, not orange. Great video. Your bike tech is sure good in front of the camera, worked through the telephone ring without a blink. You too...
@ride-media
@ride-media 3 года назад
@@chrismorton7998 - based purely on your height, I'd say the 54cm would be ideal. Further, I'd say that the 56cm would simply be too big. PS. If the shop is interested in looking after its clients, surely they'll let you have a test ride. This is a considerable investment, not a bike for summer...! As for the colour: this was a review bike, so I got what I got... and, after six weeks, I gave it back. (Clean, of course.)

Trek designers must been arguing during this design process. They couldnt decide on what to do with the stem/handlebar/fork spacer situation. So they are like 'fine' lets just go with the ugliest design we can do it. Was so excited for this bike and was planning on maybe getting one, but now with that ugly front end... i m sorry there are better options out there that looks much better and actually lighter as well.

disc brakes are the best for noobs. Carbon rims with rim brakes can be dangerous if you are a new rider or have weak hands. Im all for discs being pushed to the noobs. I had my GF ride disc for a year before I put her on rim.

Don’t listen to anything durianrider says he’s a complete wack-job. Disc brakes are only slightly heavier and less aero than rim brakes but braking performance increases drastically. And you don’t have to worry about rim overheat, replacing rims, or braking on carbon rims

Next time perhaps I'll title it: "Unpacking a bike, putting it on the workstand, tuning the gears, talking about how it comes together with the mechanic, checking the torque settings on bolts, adding some grease and some carbon paste, pumping up the tyres, tuning the brakes, constructing the new-style head fitting." But then I might be accused of being verbose. So, well... you know, I just kept it to two words. Cheers.
