Thank you , save me hours of tinkering around . I think I actually watched this videos a year ago and then forgot this was an issue again till rods again after a long while
You can take the two wires off the kickstand and wire them together. That bypasses the kickstand switch. It also has a clut sensor by the clutch handle and you can bypass it the same way. Safe riding guys!!
I have a yahama vstar 1100, doing exactly the same thing, I always start it with the kick stand down. Started it again this morning same thing. I backed it out of the garage to make room to start tearing her apart and it fired and ran fine(kick stand up). Even took her for a drive and she ran fine. I was thinking intermittent problem with fuel pump. Thanks you probably just saved me countless hours and dollars.
Had a similar problem, but the issue turned out to be a clogged idle jet in the carburetor. Hadn’t run the bike much for 1-2 months. Apparently this is a common problem as well
after swapping fuel pumps, my BMW GS runs for 1-2 min before stopping but does this with the side stand up or down. so not the kickstand... but this video gives me a lead to check on other cut off sensors/switches BIG THANKS for making the video !
you should have let the kickstand down while it was running and seen what would have happened from there that would have confirmed almost for sure what you think the issue is
Bro what a tripp! I been having alot of problems with my 07' Gixxer shuting off alot all the time .But before that my Neutral light went off so i been riding it around like that and now that seen your video its making more sense now.
WOW. I've had the same issue on my 98 Katana. The bike was dropped like 3x over the winter. I've drained the carbs, emptied the tank. Been through 2x batteries troubleshooting. I've yet to try lifting the kick stand.
Kind of the same thing happened to me except I had a bad kickstand sensor. Kickstand would be up but yet the bike would still shut off. Easy bypass but dam sometimes they bikes can be tricky. 2001 r1
For me its different. Sometimes the starter wouldn't initiate with the kickstand down and the clutch pulled. Many clicks and beyond it just doesn't wind. Its always in neutral so I decided to flip up the stand whenever this happens and voila the starter winds and the engine goes boom.
The problem is obviously in the kick stand switch if the motor runs with it up but not with it down you need to do this a number of times to verify. Alternatively this could be a previously not noticed built in safety feature . Try cleaning all parts of the side stand switch assembly and terminals and contacts. Check the wiring diagram for existence of a fuel cutoff solenoid on the carburettor s. You could also try cleaning the float jets and needles in the carburettor s and checking for correct float heights if the needles have small wear grooves on their cones they will need to be replaced, Since they could cause an over rich mixture leading to a stall as the float bowls over fill.
@@wilverlima9653got something like this on my ZX-14R, it can run from 5-25 minutes without having a drama but then eventually cuts out. gear indicator on dash shows no number, just a flashing square. suspect it's similar to this guy's issue
I have a 1999 hornet and have the same problem. Fuel tank and lines cleaned or new, carburettors cleaned and balanced... . Still, ... it won't stay running.... . I'll try your way tomorrow. Keeping posted. 🇫🇷🇪🇺🤙
@@MilanKajla yes, I bought a 1,1L shity fiat/coffee cups holder for the winter/£1000 . And "it"does do what it looks like 👍. 🤣 After few 12months/Year, riding... it is quiet nice to have a warm coffee and a cigarette, My hornet is a 600 from 99. So while my 50 years old bones enjoy a dry winter, I have ordered some new parts. Solenoid starter/£12, generator/£50, fuse kit/£2,0. Cleaned and balanced the carbs. The frame and front forks been sent for new powder coated/£300. I am repainting the original tank and bits myself. Honda motorcycles engines should never been touched. Honda. It is a 600. And gave me more than expected.(f@k traffics) But a 900 with fairing would have been wiser. 🤔
Hahaha...just had to laugh. This problem had me up and down all over the place. Had the same issue up to a few minutes ago. Put up the kick stand and voila. Thank you brother
This is clearly a safety feature provided by the bike manufacturer i think there is a sensor which works similar to the engine kill switch when the side stand is being used
do you know if this problem would occur if i don't have the kickstand switch attached at all? i'm having pretty much the exact same problem. it's currently off since it's an old race FZR400 that i'm converting back to street legality
But wait, if the switch is designed as a protection mechanism, and it stalls the engine when down, does that not mean that something else keeps tripping the mechanism?
If you figure it is an electrical problem, before changing everything always check your shut off switches. Neutral, kickstand and whatever else you have on your bike. Most common failure is with kickstand switch. That thing sits don there and gets a lot of dirt.. So fails easier..
Thank you, i was freaking out and i hope if its not my idller knob being broken then its the neutral safety switch because i just did an oil change and its still shutting off
I had this issue as well, my bike CBR600f it has an engine idle RPM thumb screw, which I can increase and decrease, all I had to do work just turn that up, let the bike warm up a bit and then I can switch it back down, to the spec of 1500rpm, once warm.
@Stroppy Beast I did! My power commander V went bad, removing its tether to the ignition coils fixed the issue. If you get a check engine light, try finding out how to get the code!
am having the same issue .. some times the neutral light goes off even if the bike iz in neutral and when i touch the wiire near the.engine its on. how to fix it pls ??
Just heads up that sensor works through continuity, mean you can bypass it altogether. Simply solder one wire to the other and issue is gone. If you wanna be a little more professional you can jumper it at the end location. It’s different on some bikes, mine was under the gas tank.
Sir, I think you may have just saved me a butt load of trouble shooting and work. I am going to put my bike back together tomorrow and see if this solution works for me as well. Thank you!
My bike has a similar problem it won’t run for more then 2 seconds as soon as I give it gas the bike stalls even without giving gas the bike will still stall I have absolutely no idea what’s wrong with it I bought it a week ago rode it 3 times with absolutely no problem one day I tried to turn it on and it just started to to do that. I have a 2002 gsxr 750 8k miles on it the bike is literally in pristine condition any ideas?
Mine does the exact same, it will run if I give it throttle but it won’t idle at all have to constantly give it throttle but I heard that it was just dirty carbs but previous owner said it was sitting since 2014
Mine is doing the same thing i got an 07 cbr 125, i thought it was the same issue, but even when my kickstand is up, has a hard time starting, then when it finally starts i gotta play with the throttle, then at high rpms it also dies lol, no idea wtf the issue is other than dirtygas and dirty carb?
If it helps anyone, my old 2000 suzuki intruder has the fuel filter under the seat. I bought a universal fuel filter and it ran for a few blocks and it kept on dying on me. Put the original filter and no problems. Even making sure nothing was pinching fuel lines the aftermarket fuel filter wasn't going to work. And flow direction too.
i hope that is just the problem of my honda magna....at first it was running and would dies after few seconds...after trying for few times, it would only crank but would not run
I haven't been on my bike in a while but started it up the other day fine, but today I turned it on and it needed a little rev to get going but the rev counter was bouncing at 11 then shut off. I'm assuming it's the battery being dead. But if you have any thoughts, I'd love to know
Big thanks to you mate I'm experiencing same problem. After checking for spark & checking fuel system it was still cutting out. I came across your video last nite at work, I come home this morning went into shed check side stand & it was that, bike now running haven't ridden it yet but she is idling & not cutting out. So a big thank you to you for putting out the vid. Happy man from England 🏴
Iam having issue with 07 r1 has been cutting out wile riding sitting cruising then it stall and fires back to life driving me mad. Might try by pass the kickstand
Great job brother, im having the same issue wirh my dirtbike and its driving me up the wall lol. She runs great but soon as i slow down to stop she will cut out, but when she is going shes going real well, so i dont know. I only know how to ride cars or bikes but no idea on how to fix sfuff lol Be Safe
Scooters nowadays have that safety feature that when you put the kickstand down, the engine shuts off, like a kill switch. It's a a safety feature so if it does that then it's working fine
Designed that way. It's a safety switch, very common to prevent the thing from launching without a rider. Frustrating but funny. Had a similar experience with a luxury car, those are often rigged with trunk latch disabling switches in the glove compartment. It drove me nuts trying to find out why my trunk wouldn't open. Likely it was activated while getting something from the glove compartment. For valet parking. 🤣
This is happening to me this morning gsxr 600 I got a pop from my exhaust little smoke backfire except I can’t get mine to stay on just like urs I’m gonna try the gear thing now. UPDATE tried first gear still shuts off getting towed to the shop smh anybody who knows what the issue is please let me know
Did this ever work? Bro I’m having a terrible time figuring mine out. Mine has been sitting for a while. Put a new batter in and will start but cuts off. Can’t even put any acceleration on it either smh
Did you ever resolve your issue bro ? Bc i just got a bike yesterday and I think I might’ve done the same . I bought a new battery and it runs better but it’ll turn off eventually . Hopefully this works , did it work for you ?
@@R1__TZ I did man I was a noob lol. So I had the kill switch on. Lol. After that I just hold the break while giving it a little gas and flick the on switch. Works every time now.
🤯 no fucking way I took out my carbs twice to clean it again thinking Wht tf could be the problem and gave up for 2 1/2 weeks this better be the problem holy shit
had this problem on my 04 GSXR, was burnt spark plugs Wasnt providing enough spark, then the kickstand safety switch was adjusted that didnt do nothing, Until i screwed with the idle position sensor, took it down to 1100 RPM warm up
I have this problem right now on my 04 gsxr but it missfires like it's a 3 cylinder at idle then it sounds like it's on all 4. If i ride it then it won't go full power on WOT but now it does what this guys bike is doing 🙅🙅. Spark plugs maybe?
@@Jzsosa512 Id Look Into it See if your spark plugs are wearing out normally or check your injectors, All you gotta do is take the air filter off with 8 screws under the tank, find a piece of wood to hold the tank up
@@KelsS1k yeah my spark plugs are black on the top half, i do have a video of how it's running ... Also had stator bolts back out and had to replace them.
@@Jzsosa512 hi i have the same issue, you are solved? My bike when is in low rpms if stay off like the video and make unstable but in mid - high rpms like 3000-4000k no problem...
I have sort of the same problem but my bike will start and stay on as long as my clutch is engaged as soon as I release it it shuts off have you solved the problem any advice helps !
take the two wires off the switch on the bottom of the clutch lever - use a wire or piece of metal to bridge the wires together. If the bike runs fine then it's the cheap little switch, but you can permanently wire the two wires together if you like. If you do wire them together permanently though, the bike will be able to start in gear, and the sidestand cut off switch might not work, depending on your bike.
@@jltilghman I was thinking it was a Suzuki too, last time I did this it was for a stranded rally-goer who just wanted to get home on a sunday morning. Everyone else had looked and advised her she get AA recovery home. I crawled out of my tent, with a hangover, wandered to the toilets and spotted her struggling pushing it. Had a little chat, took a rally badge off of my jacket and used the pin to bridge her clutch switch and she was away. She's got me drunk at every rally I've seen her at since :P
My Vulcan was backfire sometimes and shut off or not start & it was the kickstand wire got broken. I bipassed the switch by unplugging the switch plug the two wires together & it worked fine.
