I'm impressed with your comparison of these bags. You are the only reviewer I know of who has mentioned thigh clearance. This is important to me as I have always had large thighs that rub any bag under my saddle. In the past I've worn holes in three separate bib shorts due to rubbing from a bag. Keep up the nice work.

On the 17l the tail wagging is too bad due to two main reasons: - it wasn't packed / tighten well enough; - the heaviest objects must always be loaded first, closest to the seat post, thus reducing the wagging. I've been using a much cheaper 14l similar bag for thousands of km. If it's properly used, there's almost no tail wagging at all.

But: If you overpack your 14L saddle bag, it will still sway around, even if you pack it perfectly. I found this out when trying to fit a giant sleeping bag in mine.

I used to use the Apidura tailbag for about 3 years. I then switched to the Tailfin. The only disadvantage of the Tailfin is the price. It is far easier to pack and totally solid. It is simple to move from bike to bike and you can add panniers if you choose to. Everybody switched to Tailbags until Tailfin came along. They are now becoming more and more popular in ultra races and rides.

Yes you canadd empty pannniers but why would you ? Since it has low weight limit there is no point in adding panniers. Personally i would rather instal lichgtweight rear rack that weights the same 1kg but has more weight limit than tailbag

The Ortleib saddle bag is a good compromise betweeen these two. it is a bit heavier than the Apidura, but has better thigh clearance, and much less tail wag because of its built in plastic frame and extra straps.

thing i like about the tailfin setup is that when you open it you can see all the contents when you open the bag. ive just upgraded from Apidura Saddle to Tailfin. Never going back.

Great comparison. I've been looking at those saddle packs. I never realized that my thighs might contact the bag itself. (And that dog was a good comical break:-)

Española? Great review. i opted for the tailfin aeropack option for my bike packing. Did you get a chance to review any of their pannier options? As we do a lot of offroad bikepacking in the mountains etc the new 16L mini pannier looks like a winner for stability. Im following you now so will check out your other videos. Agur!

Nice review! Try the Arkel for comparison. It has a frame mount that allows a 9L and 16L capacity, no tail wag. easy on/off.

thank you the Tailfin is great, I love it for bikepacking but it is too big for me for ultra races as I not carry much, I will have it half empty

There are some better alternatives to these two option. What I choose is the 7R minirack with same brand 18L reduceable waterproof saddle bag. With two side pouches and becomes a backpack! Ask the 7R Bikepacking founder Stanislaw about prices and even different weight fabric options!

Tailfin IS great... but at the end of the day it IS just a very expensive rack. Other options are available!

many thanks for your comment :) the carrier rack is the Tailfin Carbon Rack without mounts. They also have an option to get it with pannier mounts.

I prefer the Tailfin aeropack, especially for bikepacking and races. Recently used it in my first ultra-cycling event perform really well.
