This is episode 4 of 4 We Made it to the Border!
In this episode we ride the GDMBR from Gila National Forest to the Border - Days 13 to 16 (220 miles).
We had to skip in 2020 but are back in 2021 for the final part 3 of our self supported bicycle adventure along the Adventure Cycling Association Great Divide Route. Part 1 in 2018 we rode from Banff, AB Canada to Butte, MT. Part 2 in 2019 we rode from Butte, MT to Salida, CO. In 2021 we ride from Salida, CO to the ending at the Puerto Palomas border crossing in Columbus, NM (ACA alternative ending). This section took us 16 days to ride the 935 miles to the border.
Hope you all enjoy watching and most important hope we can help inspire you to get out there and give bikepacking or bike touring a try! It feels almost surreal that we finally finished this journey we started back in 2018. We went from "someday we'll hopefully get to do the GDMBR" to now completing it. Finishing each section felt like a major accomplishment but this one really evokes so many emotions. We had to do it in 3 sections over a 4 year span (no thanks to covid), but it allowed us to experience it now while we can since you never know what the future holds or how much things can change in life.
Ride on!

thank you for sharing your trip :) realy Enjoyed it. A year ago I saw the first 2 parts for my GDMBR research, now I finished my route preps I watched it all again with part3 in the end :) and along the way I paused and compared the campsites to my notepad with water/campgrounds/stores and so I made and its realy cool to see so many things I noted in the vid here :) I start 15 June in Deadhorse Alaska and make my way down to banff and then to Antolope wells after that I gona ride to Boca Chica in Taxes to visit SpaceX end of september (damn you passes a Falcon Rocket first stage on transport there realy cool :D) Greetings from the Netherlands :)

Paul, you have an awesome trip planned and going to be epic! Good luck and have a blast! Was wondering if anyone would notice the Falcon booster passing us? You get the prize, lol! I grew up in Titusville which is across the river from NASA. My dad worked for NASA as an engineer during the Apollo and Space Shuttle programs. If you are ever in Florida it's worth going to the Kennedy Space Center. The Saturn 5 rocket and Space Shuttle are truly impressive! What SpaceX is doing now is really exciting and love we have a company pushing rocket design like they are. Thanks for the comment and for watching and please let me know how your trip goes!

Saw your videos on the Great Divide from a couple years ago. Nice to see you completed the 3rd leg of the route. Going to small city Columbus is better than Antelope Wells which has nothing other than the border. Once you get to El Paso you can take a plane or Amtrak home.

Thanks for sharing your trip, documentation skills definitely leveled up between first and last season! Also, thanks for sharing things like where to camp, eat and resupply, where water is an issue, rattlesnake in the road and the big RVs passing at high speed on gravel roads (things to watch out for), and especially the Puerto Palomas border crossing with the mention of Phillip for a shuttle into El Paso. Is the name of that hotel Los Milagros? I just retired this week and am going to try to do the whole route solo in one go later this summer (riding partners welcome). Your ride is inspirational. Congrats on finishing!

Thanks, I keep trying to improve the videos. We also have an online journal that may have some more helpful info: www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/AllgireGDMBR2021 Yes, that is the name of the Hotel and is a good option for shuttle service to/from El Paso to Puerto Palomas. I think Phillip can also shuttle you to Antelope Wells if you what to start/end there. You are going to love the route, it's awesome!

@@PedalPowerAdventures Thanks for the reply and the confirmation of the info on the hotel. I hadn't been able to find any friends willing to drive from central Colorado to the border to meet me after my friend in Nevada had to back out. So I thought, well a couple extra days to El Paso along the border would be in order, happy to know I have this option, will contact Phillip, thanks again. I will check out the other content you provided the link to.

I liked this one the best. A lot of cool shots and the music fit well. Luv the drone footage as well. Just curious, any aches and pains you had to deal with? Longest ride I've done is 50 miles and everything hurt.
@PedalPowerAdventures
@PedalPowerAdventures 2 года назад
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Some days are harder than others and we do get aches and pains on the longer days. I think this is a pretty common thing when spending that much time on the bike. I also think the more you ride the less it will bother you, or maybe you just get used to it, lol.
