Tip for wayfinding outside of cell service, in case you don’t do this already: download maps ahead of time on your phone using Google Maps or similar app (eg MapOut, Gaia). GPS typically works even if there is no cell data. Looks like it was a fun trip!

I like how often the word "supple" came up. In my own riding, I have found that the compromise between suppleness and a tire that wanders or drifts unexpectedly is a very crucial question. Full suspension with tight tires or fully rigid with big tires can fill almost the same niche but feel very different, suspension with precise (tough case) tires is crap for climbing but great in technical descents with sharp rocks but roomy tires feel great as long as you don't catch a bad bounce or get sliced. It was good to see how you could handle some pretty rocky roads with robust road bikes. I am coming at touring from the side of making a mountain bike travel, but have that same main metric. Supple tires vs. load vs. frame etc.

I very much enjoy your video bike reviews and ride reports. I'd love to see you ride and review the Black Mountain Cycles MCD frameset. Mike Varley is a great guy to do business with and he really knows how to design a bike for a great blend of comfort, performance and utility. I rode one of his original Monster Cross frames with cantilever brakes and I'm now on the new disc version. Really special bikes.

Right on, ride on. That was cool. Having just got through a rough cold snap of winter tbe birds are telling that spring is nigh! So it's maintence time. Akeo I have two 4k action cams, my new trailer my digital slr on its way and gimble ready to go! Can't afford a Jones do got 3 mtb's and stripped them to make Frankenbike!! A touring monster. So a small tour of the Yorkshire Dales then, West Yorkshire to Cornwall. Yorkshire to Europe - probably the last chance before things get complecated. Have fun you guys.

I went to a fiddlers meet up there in 1981, it is more developed now. I may be wrong, but I think it was the Lumberjack Saloon back then. I really enjoy seeing your rides in Western Montana, brings back fond memories!

Nice ride. Got me wondering if you could do a video on how you deal with bike security at different locations. I realize you ride with a partner so that simplifies things during quick stops at stores, but I ride alone most of the time. Suggestions? And what do you do to secure gear at campsites when your sleeping, or off exploring local bars?

I second downloading free GPS maps from the Forest Service, BLM, etc... and using an app like Avenza to geolocate when out of cell range. It’s saved my butt a few times in the mountains of Idaho...

You should try the Komoot app. I use it and it works very well. No need for expensive dedicated GPS if you have a smart phone. Komoot is cheep! you pay once and never more for the world map. the only disadvantage of using an app is that you will need to take with you at least 1 power bank cause phones’ batteries do not last long. Pro tip: download the free restrict map first and then wait a few weeks for Komoot to offer you a huge discount on the world map!

Why not wear a smaller back pack that has hydration capabilities? I wear a Camelbak Mule every time I ride here in Thailand just because it carries everything I may need to fix my bike if something breaks. I cannot tell I am wearing it and it weighs about 8 - 12 lbs and if I carry extra water then it could go to 15 + lbs.

When in Google maps on the phone, establish a route. Select the three horizontal lines on the top right. Sign into your Google account. Select “Offline maps”, you don't need cell service if you have downloaded the 30 mile trek.

On these bikes we are tubeless but still have many bikes with tubes. It’s expensive to switch the whole fleet.
