We rode the upper 10 miles (Webster to Danbury) of the Gandy Dancer Trail over 25 years ago with our kids, and I have always wanted to ride the complete trail for years. Things worked out for me to sneak away for two days and do a bikepacking trip of the whole trail. Cool weather was in the forecast and supposedly no rain :-). The Gandy Dancer exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds and I would recommend it as a worthy destination for a 2-3 day bikepacking (or hoteling) trip. With decent-sized towns every 10 miles or so you can get food and drink along your way. There are plenty of options for camping or staying in a hotel.

Good video! The trail looks well maintained. Since 2010 a small group would ride from Trempaloe WE to LaValle (or so) and back but we stopped in 2021 due to poor trail conditions. We switched to the Root River Trail system and have not regretted the change. Functionally blind I ride a recumbent tadpole trike but the Gandy Dancer looks good for 3 wheels. i rode the GD a few times some years ago on my tandem with my "Bike Wife" on MEA Friday. Your 2 day ride is very appealing if I can get "Real Wife" to take and retrieve......

The Root River is definitely a great choice, we love it. The Gandy Dancer would be good for three wheels and the best maintained none paved surface trail I have ridden in Wisconsin. Thanks for watching!

Enjoyed your video…Thank you! So how were the Black Flies? I rode the Paul Bunyan State Trail several years ago and they were vicious. However if I was riding 11mph or faster they couldn’t touch me👍😉!!!

Glad you enjoyed the video. Luckily I did not encounter any black flies. They are usually around earlier in the summer and with last summer being so dry there were not many bugs of any type. We had hoped to ride the Paul Bunyan trail again this year but did not get a chance so we will add it to our list for next year. Thanks for watching!

Is the camping area in Danbury close to the trail? This looks like something I’d like to do next Summer. Thanks for all the info!

It is about a quarter of a mile from the trailhead. Very easy ride. Definitely give the gandy Dancer a try. Thanks for watching!
