We are passionate about traveling, bicycling, and hiking. Our goal is to expose people to the wonderful and beautiful opportunities to get out and explore our world, especially at a slower pace using a bicycle and walking. We are not monetizing anything on our channel and simply want to share the wonderful things we encounter. Rich and Julie
Hi Richard-nice to see this video drop :). I recall biking the Luce Line to Watertown a few years ago and that there was a grocery store close to the trail where I stopped to get a beverage, so I think you are right that you missed it (unless it went out of business :). Haven't done the Dakota trail this season but it is definitely one of my favorites. As I mentioned in video #1, I was at the Carver bike site over Labor Day weekend so nice to see the "tour" in the video - and less traffic noise than Baker for sure, as I recall (stayed 2x at the Katrina group camp site at Baker). We are indeed lucky with all that is available in the TC region :)
Glad you liked the video. We were there at the beginning of October. It was a very nice time of year to be in Alsace and Burgundy, of course, that is the only time we have been there. Thanks for watching.
Richard - did you make it to Carver park? Looking forwad to the next video since I bikepacked from my home down the Minnetonka Regional Trail to the drop-in bikecamping site over Labor Day weekend :)
I did make it and it was great. Wish we had more drop in bicycle campsites. There were only 4 of us on a Friday night but I think the heat scared people off. The video is set to release tomorrow morning. It is so wonderful to see people out bike packing in the twin cities, Baker Park was easy on a week night but would most likely be full on a weekend night. Thanks for watching!
@@RichardMooreAndJulieMoore Agree with the wish for more drop-in bicycle campsites and that Carver was great. Saturday of Labor Day weekend at the site we had a family with 3 kids, one single person from Edina, one single person from Andover and me :). Enjoyed sharing stories around a fire. Car campground was full.
It is definitely a great hike, I wish we had more time and could have climbed up into the center part of the wave structure. Hope you get back soon. Thanks for watching!
I’m kinda bummed I didn’t know about that look out part you showed in the beginning of the video. When I went there last summer I had the entire place to myself for about 45 minutes. I didn’t see anyone. Also wished I had set up my camera on my tripod to get those walking by shots. I completely forgot to do all that but my plan is to go back to Page and explore some more sometime next year. Great video. I enjoyed this short hike!!! You said you spent 3 days in Page, do you have videos of the other places you went too?
That stretch you rode from the "wrong turn over the bridge" to the end of your ride was the river, but not in its original channel. Sometime back in the 50's (I think) they channeled the river as part of a flood control project. Essentially, it was a very meandering, slow moving river that flooded easily in the spring. They made it a straight shot so that water could move through faster. I don't know, but suspect that they made the diversion channel that you rode alongside in the first couple of minutes of the video at the same time. You are correct it is a marvelous trail. If you know where to look there are a couple of public restrooms and water fountains. The tower that you saw, but didn't comment about, at Falls Park is a free observation tower with great views of the falls.
Thanks for the info on the diversion. I wish I had known about the observation tower on a clear day it would have been a great view. Thanks for watching and enjoy the loop.
That stretch that you rode from the larger dam up to the spillway at 2:46 wasn't the river. It was the diversion canal that takes much of the flow of the Big Sioux river around the north edge of the city. It rejoins the Big Sioux at the bottom of the spillway and then continues east, out of town. From the spillway onwards you are riding along the actual river. I've walked the loop three times and ridden it on my bike a dozen times or so. It's a nice urban bike trail that goes through a dozen, or so, different city parks.
1:44 The river with the rowers and river barge is a canal, the Vliet. 7:13 "Mooi hè?" (Beautiful, isn't it?) "Nou en of!"(You bet) Nice video. Glad you enjoyed the ride, despite the traffic in Delft and Den Haag.
We have done all the sections that are separated bike paths, ru-vid.com/group/PLhykU7rY16iHJPKsYvAcGnnyXvy57KrpO&si=EWpgxD2tvX3GRInj very beautiful and a bit hilly but not too bad. Thanks for watching!
Yes the tall tower is Nieuwe kerk, I was hoping to refer to the closer building in the video which I do believe is Maria van Jessekerk which we went into after lunch, very beautiful. Maybe not as clear as it could be. I wish google allowed you to update your video. Thanks for watching and hope you're enjoying a summer filled with bicycling!
For a last minute substitution, it turned out to be one of the best rides of our week. The foam is what came with the bars a.co/d/1GRTaZU you might be able for find a similar foam product on Amazon. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video. We just visited last month from 4 states away and fell in love with the place. Lunch at that sandwich shop is a must! I was surprised how quickly the lavender colors deteriorated by August. We were there on 7/21 and the colors were popping. Probably why no charge here! Still worth the stop.
Glad you enjoyed the video and had a great time on Washington Island. It is a great place. We were surprised that there were even any blooms left on the lavender at the end of August so it was a pleasant surprise. We will have to go back in July! Thanks for watching!
Nice series you made, my compliments. You had great advise planning the cities, the routes and also the season. Generally speaking best periods for this kind of bike trips in the Netherlands are in spring end of April until early June or in autumn end of August until mid Oktober.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the videos. We have had very good luck with European trips (hiking or biking) in the fall. The weather we had for most of our three weeks in the Netherlands was exceptionally nice and warm. The rain finally caught up to us during our four days in Amsterdam. Thanks for watching.
Looks like it is a great place to ride in the fall too! I am looking for some long trails to ride in September so this would be great one to do since I have ties to the state. Great video as always really enjoy your adventures!
I would assume the trail would be very nice to ride in September, definitely worthy of a long ride. If you mountain bike, check out some of those trails too if you have time. Glad you are enjoying the videos and thanks for watching!
Hi Richard, I was wondering if the neoprene booties are thick enough to be comfortable even when used with aggressively contoured bike pedals. We will be renting bikes and doing the same route as you. Your videos are captivating. Thank you
With our sandals which have thick soles we had no issues. The booties are basically heavier sock thickness. Have a great ride, it is an amazing experience. Thanks for watching!
Glad it was helpful! It is a nice trail and by next year the trail will continue to spring lake park and allow us to ride on a trail from St Paul to Hastings. Of course from St Paul you can take trails to Minneapolis and beyond. Thanks for watching!
A couple of other videos that cover the MRT towards Hastings and towards St Paul ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c7SKSd5BVgU.htmlsi=QFOQiCNuhXPfqx-- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LCxYNiGNkW0.htmlsi=-mlcdgPgWNByObfF
I want to take the opportunity to say you showed in all your videos great natural scenery. I seriously consider traveling to a few of these places myself on my bike
Thanks for the vid and info. Have you ridden the gap before? If not, any idea how good/bad the roads are in the gap? We're planning the KATY from KC this fall. Trying to decide if we want to ride or shuttle to a KATY trailhead from KC.
You are welcome. We have never ridden or even driven the gap between the end of the trail just southeast of Lee's summit to pleasant hill. My research seemed to indicate it would be rideable depending on your comfort level on roads. We are not very fond of road riding. Another option would be to do the full Katy from Clinton. We did that back in 2021 and it was a great ride. Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much for your video! My husband and I plan to bike this same route on our upcoming trip to Ely and it was great to see a preview of what’s to come!
Several of the concrete sections you spoke about have been put in areas that would hold water after a good rain. Also, the bridge you crossed right before you turned around at the north end is not closed from storm damage. You might have noticed the further north you go the more you feel away from civilization and more connected with nature. Thanks for sharing your ride!
Thanks for the insight on the seemingly random placement of cement. I did enjoy the more remote feel of the trail and it is a bummer on the storm damage. We are also dealing with storm and flood damage on different trails here in MN. Thanks for watching!
Nice review, I think we’ve done that one. I’m on the St Louis side of MO and the kids are in KC so we have ridden quite a few of the trails over there.
I was anticipating the slide area, a memorable part of the day back in '98. After that, the young trees crowding the way, brushing the panniers. Also the bear running across the trail in front of us on the way down to Seeley Lake.
Would you recommend this trail for kids and electric wheelchair. My family and I recently started biking and i use an electric wheelchair and we have a 9 year old so wondering if this trail is easy ride. Is it hilly like you mentioned at the beginning?
Thanks for your great ride videos. I live in Woodbury and will soon be getting an e-bike. I can't wait to try parts of this route. I appreciate that you share your GPS route!
You are welcome, glad you are enjoying them. We are blessed to have such wonderful places to ride. Enjoy your new e bike, maybe we will see you cruising around. Thanks for watching!
Richard, your in our state !!! Just East of St. Louis is the MCT (Madison County Transit trail network). Let me know if you ever want to ride them. You could probably make 5 videos over there. I could ride with you like the first day, or more.
We did a last minute trip and the only planning we did was avoiding the weather so we could ride. Of course we wanted to get to Arkansas and ride the Razorback trail (video to come). Kansas City was a nice surprise with its bicycle infrastructure. Definitely will let you know if we head to eastern Missouri to get some recommendations.
The whole Katy Trail and Rock Island Trail system is amazing, you definitely need to experience it. I was amazed we could just ride in and around the stadium. Thanks for watching!
