“He’s so sensitive he’s got a tattoo, carving your name with a compass in my forehead was not enough for you”. Has to be one of the best lines I’ve ever heard in a song 😂😂😂 Now and then I randomly remember it and have to come back to listen to this. What a masterpiece.
I was 19-20 when my dad took me and my brother to London just for a wander about we thought.....turned up outside the Apollo and he said we was seeing Bill Bailey. I was at a pretty low point in my life at the time and for this reason I had a small bottle of absinthe in my inside coat pocket. Watching Bill perform with my dad and my brother was truly one of the funniest and greatest nights of my life
@@guyq71 Right on, met my first only when 27, always felt jealous. lol. Then everything felt wonderful. Now everything is infected with a plague, right in time for the current plague so I can be jealous, depressed and the lonliest I have ever. Without even a friend, wishing I had some form of human contact. You have to laugh tho, eh?
@@5688gamble Just remember that this song is a parody of all the whiny, angsty breakup songs. Learn to laugh about how hyperbolic those feelings are or were. If being on your own seems impossible, it wouldn't be fair to attach yourself to someone else.
Bill Bailey, the man, the myth, the legend... and the only person to ever incorporate the term “anthropomorphic”, not just in a song, but a love song. Respect!
Jocular remarks aside, from a songwriting perspective this is an incredibly well crafted song. Sometimes i wish Bill was a pop musician, he'd make some amazing music
Just madness and joy! I saw this live and nearly suffocated from laughing. I've never heard anything like him - I almost wished he would stop, I couldn't take it and I had to grab onto a nearby pillar to get some contact back with the room. Guffaw to the max!!!!!!!
"The duck lies shredded in a pancake. Soaking in the hoisin of your lies." I'm not sure whether I'm crying because it's funny or because I'm sad for the duck, probably both
10 years later, and Bill still teaches us that talent is timeless. His musical skill & knowledge are truly a gift for the comedy scene. A true love balade that i'm sure Scott Walker & Slayer would admire like we do. Bravo !
“… like a snowflake that melts upon the eyelash of a startled deer…” Pure poetry, with a smidge of Leonard Cohen. Nah, it’s 100% Bill Bailey! Genius Bloke!
"And when I danced, I danced alone, but then I did not dance because I was alone, and so I did not dance." Kind of funny in hindsight because he's going on Strictly Come Dancing!
When I first saw this dvd I was in year's abosulte tears of laughter, this song was just pure genius. Or the duck that lands on pond clumsely and the other ducks are laughing quak quak quak quak "The duck lies shredded in a pancake, soaking in the hoison if your lies"
When I had a bad breakup I told him I was sick of soaking in the hoisin of his lies, and he didn’t get it, even though we watched this show the night before. Cried myself to sleep with this on repeat on iTunes. They say time makes fools of us all, but I’m pretty sure I was an idiot already 😂
I have just laughed like a mental case right through this! I don't know what was funnier, the lyrics or the mad professor hair with the facial impressions. Absolute genius.
I was alone my heart was cold it was a stone my soul was lonely like a stone there was no Moss. And when I danced I danced alone but then I did not dance because I was alone so I did not dance. BEST START TO A SONG EVER!
