In today's society men think of women as much more than sex objects. They can be friends / support / professionals / basically anything a man can be. However if you are arguing that all men see them as purely sex objects and you enjoy rap (and possibly its culture), then I think you just proved my point. I shouldn't have had to explain that...
There was a time when Rap was brilliant, it had a rhyme and a reason it had a statement to make in the form of Public Enemy and Tupac and an 'I did it, so can you' vibe about it in general, it wasn't about showing off with lavish things and how you got them (with all that money you got) but about finding success and how you fought and worked to get there. It's all ego's and money and the music seems to be secondary in what has become a vacuous waste of a microphone with less vocals more autotune

I mean good original rock : Queen, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Scorpions. Most rock artists do write about sex in some form. But not in explicit and demeaning detail constantly or anywhere near the frequency that rap does. But can you honestly say rap puts a good message across when it comes sex? Rock at least isnt quite so blunt with the subject. My experience of rap is quite limited because I don't listen to it much, but it is all over the place so I can say I have experienced it enough ;)
I agree about the bragging and dirtyness in rap. It’s not for me either, I like my lyrics philosophical (Nujabes and Tribe called quest have that sort of stuff). But hey, to each their own.

Now now let's not be simple minded. There are a lot of amazing rappers out there, but the general view of rappers is so skewed nowadays by the kind of shite Bills on about.
Yeah that is sort of my point, but you gotta remember that the rap that you are being exposed to is the terrible stuff. There are many great rappers out there who do not rap about bitches and money, they are either above that, or never actually grew up in a ghetto, in which case it is probably a humourous/political rapper. None of these are considered pop music these days though so that's why most people unfamiliar with the genre of it's history see the extreme negative aspect of it.

The equivalent sex obsession in rock / metal, are Tenacious D and Steel Panther, who are not being serious and make these lyrics for a joke. Rap regularly uses explicit lyrics thinking its normal :P That is why I dislike it and cant take it seriously.

sorry dude i need to disagree on a few things..akon used to be good when he rapped about the streets and told storys of living in ghettos etc but the song smack that only contains such lyrics like what bill bailey is on about because that was a radio hit..now adays in order to make a radio hit you need to make shit music with even shittier lyrics
