I grew up in Boston and have been a Pats fan for my entire 52 years. With that said, the best thing about this interview, is that the rest of the country now understands why we love Bill. We totally understand the way he comes across to everyone....rude, grumbling, snorting, hates the media, never smiles.....etc..etc. But we here in Boston know who he really is, and this is exactly him. He is happiest on his boat in Nantucket, is a great father, has a very wry and witty sense of humor, and is very charitable to all the area organization. The reporters who cover the team, often write about his impromptu lectures he gives the press regarding the history of a particular formation, or a play, or some historic or noteworthy subject, along with slides and film, and everything. He does it because he loves to teach.,..and that is what he does best...he teaches.

@ericberend2039
@ericberend2039 5 лет назад
@Jason O'Daniel Why make it so easy for others to see how petty and shortsighted you are as a sports fan? The interview makes it clear, that Coach Belichick had a hand in making sure Brady was drafted by the Patriots. Was it "cheating", when Belichick hired perhaps the best OC in the game, Josh McDaniels? Was it "cheating", when Matt Cassel showed how much his success was tied to good coaching in NE and the Chiefs bought too high on that story? Sound very much as if it is YOU who is "cheating" - cheating yourself of an honest admission of excellence being enjoyed by 'not-your-Team'.

Excellent interview by Suzy Welch, allowing us to see into the mind of the greatest coach in NFL history, Bill Belichick. She asked smart open-ended questions that allowed Bill to open up about his coaching philosophy and style. Obviously Bill trusted her and thus gave us a glimpse into what makes him great. Really enjoyed this. Bill demonstrated his tough, yet fair, approach to his players. It's a balancing act between the games they enjoy and the often cruel business side of those games. He is calculated with his words and is often misunderstood, but knows what it takes to be a success. Well done by both of them.

Vince Lombardi was the greatest coach ,he won everywhere he went even made the lowly Red Skins look good before he died .Belichick had one good year in five at Cleveland and was fired by them in 1995.Nor did he even go to a Super Bowl as head coach until Brady became starter .I don't know why everybody thinks Belichick is the second coming of Lombardi .

BB not only has 7 rings with Pats and Giants, but was also a coach in 10 Superbowls and 15 AFC/NFC Championship games. So if you put that in percentages, his 40 year career he: * Won the Superbowl 17% of his career * Was in the Superbowl 25% of his career * Was in a Championship game 37% of his career. * Was in the playoffs 53% of his career. He was not the head coach of the Giants at that time. He was a DC and a very good one, but a lot of people could have ran that defense. To me a guy like Ritchie Petibone was actually a better DC. Three SB's wins, coached in four and the only HOF player that he had was Darrel Green. He always mixed and match defenses with multiple packages, way ahead of his time. Again, not taking anything away from BB cause I think he's the best HC of his time. His teams are always well prepared and fundamentally sound.

what great answers. do you want to win the next superbowl? over half of the head coaches in the NFL would have said yes. not Bill, instead he talks about the process. Simply amazing.... Blitz for 6.
@MrColeemon
@MrColeemon 7 лет назад
Actually focusing on the process is why NE has been so successful the last 16 years. Complacency can set In if you're already looking to next year's playoffs. Every team is going to try to give NE they're best game next season as theyre the defending champs. You overlook the details and all of a sudden you will find yourself out of the playoffs. As far as cheating goes prior to 2006 filming a game from anywhere on the field was perfectly legal. Mike shanahan and Jimmy Johnson said everybody did it before it officially became a rule. So yes the Patriots got caught "cheating" for one game but that doesn't discredit 01, 02 and 04. I won't go into deflategate, you can't give me one shred of evidence that makes the Patriots guilty . I've tried looking for the evidence and came up with nothing. Why do people purposefully cheat? To gain a competitive advantage. You should ask yourself, does deflating a football in anyway benefit the QB? The answer is it doesnt. Sports science did an episode covering this. They found that a football with less PSI has a slower velocity which makes the football easier to intercept. Ironically the ball that the Colts possibly tampered with to find "proof" of this framegate thing was from a patriots ball they intercepted in the first half. As you can see 1 game of officially cheating doesn't discredit 16 years of greatness. There's a long list of cheating for every other organization, your team has plenty of scandals as well but who cares about your team, your team doesn't win anything.....

@theaterdreamer
@theaterdreamer 5 лет назад
Uh, no. Belichick is an absolutely fantastic, Hall of Fame coach. I have absolutely no qualms with that. The man is a flat out genius, and Brady is one of the ten best quarterbacks to ever play the game (but not the GOAT. Sorry, Pats fans, but statistics do not support that assertion). But his team tried to gain an unfair advantage a few times, either by his hand, or under his watch. And the NFL penalized the Pats because they cheated. Lombardi stressed God, family, and Packers football. He never would have put up with cheating. The integrity of the game was held inviolate in Green Bay. Oh, and Lombardi had a .900 career winning percentage in the playoffs, back when football was played by men, outdoors, with no absolutely ridiculous penalties being called when you hit a receiver, or sneezed too close to a quarterback. Five championships in seven seasons will NEVER be matched. Ever. The Patriots, as great as they are, needed sixteen years to get their fifth championship, losing three Super Bowls along the way. Had the Packers gotten six more yards on the last play of the 1960 NFL Championship against Philly, the Packers win six in eight years, and Lombardi has a perfect 10-0 in the playoffs.

While it helped that he was home in Annapolis in the wake of an epic SB win, excellent follow-up questions by Suzy Welch created the momentum which made this interview flow - making it more of a conversation than a tug of war. Well done.

This is my favorite interview of BB ever. He is so candid and open here. He's such a fascinating and intelligent guy, So he must have felt that Jamie Collins wasn't dependable and that's why he was traded. I loved him talking about team building, his disdain for social media, and the value he places on his rings. He'll never take any of the 7 to a pawn shop. I don't even want to think about him retiring. I watched this on TV and after the interview Suzy was asked some questions by the other anchors and she firmly believes that when BB steps away from coaching he will write a book. I hope that he does, I'm sure it'll be fascinating.

Howie Phukterpuss it's not funny it's intelligence, that was one of his first head coaching jobs. why would u call anyone the Goat when they've barely coached as a head coach. And he hadn't won yet lol. Your the goat because of winning and consistency over a long period of time. Now the debate for who is the goat is a good one and he should definitely be in the conversation. Also every great coach has had great players. So weather or not he got Brady in the 6th rd is irrelevant, tell me a great coach who had crap players and actually won lol
