@NonCaptatMuscas 94 Sounds like you've been through some shit. I have had similar issues with trusting people because of my upbringing--I'll give too much don't protect myself enough in my case, and people will suddenly be extremely mean after I've shown them my underbelly. I realized at some point this was much as a problem with me as it was with them. In my case, I came to the realization that I had to find someone that let me pour love on them, and in return was a bit more prickly. I realized that I didn't like to be coddled after all and we figured it out, but I had to see at his core that he was a good man with a good character. While I don't recommend going to extremes, it's good to build up some self-defense behaviors that are healthy. Don't praise or put anyone in your life on too high of a pedestal. Don't forget about the bad in human nature, as well as the good. I would specifically recommend the book "The Laws of Human Nature" and less directly "The 48 Laws of Power" to better understand the dark and light side of people (both books by Robert Greene). I found these personally helpful because I have always had a hard time understanding people, and as a result had a hard time understanding myself and why I would get trampled on so often. Be careful with 48 Laws though, it can lead to sociopathic behavior and I would use it more as a way to catalog behavior rather than a way to act or live your life by (and TBH it's mostly entertaining rather than instructional). Also, like Bill says, doesn't help to reach out and get some help if you have access to it. If not professionally, there are some good resources out there on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Self Esteem that gets you out the black and white traps that we all fall into. My first step was trying to regulate my self-esteem, and make sure it wasn't getting too low or too high, but somewhere in the middle, which I think is essential when you are interacting with others. In any case, good luck.

​@@Gorongirl THats really good advice, especially the "dont put anyone on too high of a pedestal". Anyone youre close to should understand that in your eyes you come first and they come afterwards. Anyone is "replaceable" but if theyre good to you youll be good to them too.

Oh man my girls moms been in a facility cuz she spent her whole life doing meth now cant walk thats the least of it. Never met her real dad. Most of her family is alcoholics or drug addicts. Her causin (13) damn near killed the girl that snitched on her for a home invasion so she should be locked up for a while. yea my girls got no issues at all lol

Yeah this is one of those rare times I disagree with him. I cut an abusive parent out of my life and it has resulted in a more peaceful life. I can’t help my childhood experience, but I learned to cut the bad shit out and I am better for it. It doesn’t make sense to write someone off just because they have a shit parent/parents

@@haleytruslow7200 I completely understand. I did the same and I'm at peace not being emotionally manipulated. They may be my parent but I no longer wanted to deal with toxicity and insanity. Some people will judge others about parent issues but they were probably privileged enough to have a good relationship with their parent/parents.
