This is the greatest CHRISTmas song performance ever, by the greatest tenor ever!! He is classically trained but is not primarily a theatre singer, he is a gospel singer that can sing anything and does. Having seen David dozens of times from the front row, and knowing David personally, there is no sound or feeling on Earth like his voice.

I’ve had the pleasure of seeing him in concert, though only once. Not only does he have an incredible voice, he’s also very funny and engaging when he’s speaking in between songs.

@@danielcody7568 you are right! David is quite funny, he's also very engaging in a conversation . He's most relaxed in his Barn at the Barn Bash concerts, if you ever get a chance to go to his Barn you would completely enjoy it.

Ok, a little background for you. This was filmed in the summer of 2000 so that the dvd could be ready for Christmas that year. David is classically trained having graduated from Baylor University. The people on stage are all singers and they have heard David sing many, many times so their reactions are not of shock hearing him for the 1st time but just straight up awe of his God given talent. You feel that emotion because David is a story teller with his voice. He is an incredible singer-songwriter-arranger-musician. He is a gospel/Christian artist, he considers himself a stylist. He has never performed on broadway but he has done a couple of theater performances, one in the Chicago area just this year and another a few years ago in Texas. PLEASE do yourself a favor and check more of his performances out. I can attest to what it is like to hear this man perform in person, having sat in the front row at many a concert and it is an experience you never forget!! This is by far IMHO the BEST singer on the planet and he owns this song!

I say this as a man who over the years has lost much of his faith-what separates David Phelps performance over other great performances is that he and the choir “believe”. This rendition is not a “performance” it’s a profound example of “worship”.

No he's not a theater singer. What you felt is his heart, and his beliefs in what he's singing. Plus, God's hand is on this man. So the presence of God can be felt when he sings. Esp this song. THAT'S what you felt.

David Phelps is a gospel singer which I think is why he's not more well known. You really must listen to his version of "No More Night". You'll be blown away. Personally I thinks he's one of, if not the worlds best singers. Not just because of his voice, but along with his phrasing, passion, feeling and delivery, he has no equal. I have seen David several times, alone and with the Gaither Vocal Band. Incredible vocals, God given and blessed. I come from The First Church of God as do Bill and Gloria Gaither. Music is their mission. Please check out The Gaither Homecoming series. You will be oh so blessed!

This is the feeling that happens when a singer believes the lyrics with his whole heart and soul. David is very well known in the US Christian music community. The 'choir' is a gathering of Gospel Music royalty who join with the Gaithers once a year for group concerts. Sadly, many of the oldsters have passed since this was filmed (20 years ago).

Along with David Phelps the choir is composed of some of the greatest singers. The guy behind him is Mark Lowery the person that wrote Mary Did You Know. Mark Lowery is David's good friend and fellow Gaither Vocal Band member

Black folks sing "Southern Gospel", too. I was a member of a black group who sang Southern Gospel and won a Dove Award back in the early 80's.

Welcome to the awesomeness of David Phelps. There is nothing like hearing him in person for sure... it's a whole other level. In many of the performances you'll come across when he's with other vocalists onstage (usually some of the best in the world), they drop their jaws in awe of him DURING their performance. Some you should check out and react to... No More Night, We Shall Behold Him, The Dream, Let Freedom Ring (with the Gaither Vocal Band), I Have Nothing, Nessun Dorma... there's no shortage of good ones. He does have classical training (that opera vibe), his teachers wanted him to go into opera, but he felt called to go into gospel music... which is pretty apparent he did the right thing. Lol

He has won many DOVE AWARDS and is truly the number 1 Gospel singer. You should review "we shall Behold him" "No more night" "end of the beginning" "Let freedom ring" "and especially " let the Glory come down. David's music is famous for singing his songs he is a grat story teller.

A bit of background... Bill and Gloria Gaither are singers/songwriters of primarily American gospel music. They started the Gaither Vocal Band that David joined. The people in the choir behind David are past and present giants of the gospel music business. This recording is about 30 years old. The pianist is the late Anthony Burger who passed away during a concert of the GVB on a cruise. He was 44 and had played with the Gaither Vocal Band since he was 16. David is still a powerhouse in the music business at age 53 with his singing, composing, and arranging talents being equally impressive. Here at Christmas, I would recommend the live version of "Joy Joy" and, just for fun, "Stealing Santa Claus." David Phelps, the greatest tenor you have never heard of!

You have just been introduced to the best tenor, on the face of the earth. David studied music and graduated from Baylor University. He has a strong classical background but has sang in The Gaither Vocal Band for many years. He is now a solo artist and is a mind-blowing singer, composer, and songwriter. He is now 53 years old and seemingly getting better as he gets older. Check out his cover of Whitney Houston's song, "I have nothing," and be prepared to be blown away. Backed by only a cello and a piano, David blows this song out of the park. For a male to tackle a Whitney Houston song takes courage, and you better not blow it. David is very original, meaning he puts his own spin on everything he does. As another vocal teacher/song reactor put it, David, "Phelphavises" everything he does. Another beautiful song he does is Nessun Dorma. The amount of music available on RU-vid, by David Phelps, is endless. Thank you for your awesome reaction video to this song. Dear Ms E. I learned today. Phelps studied Opera. At Baylor. Graduated with honors and his professors wanted Phelps to pursue a career in Opera. But. David Phelps...the best male vocalist in the world and has been for the past twenty five years. I know... I have seen him perform live 11 times from the front row...I have met him and his family multiple times and been to his home for concerts twice. He is incredibly humble and gracious and greatly blessed by God.

This is another Bill and Gloria Gaither Homecoming Gathering, and David Phelps and those sitting behind David on stage are some of the Gaither Homecoming Performers. These are born again Christian Gospel singers. Whether you realize it or not, ALL of them, including David Phelps sing to AND for The Lord😊. You stop the video WAY TO MUCH. Maybe stop it once halfway thru to give some viewpoints. YOU TOTALLY KILL THE FLOW when u stop it so much. I loved your enthusiasm. Just saying if you want more subscribers please don’t stop it so much. I’m gonna watch one more of your videos. If you do the same thing in it then I will have to move on. I can’t subscribe and watch reactions when someone stops the song this many times. It makes me want to beat my head against the wall. Also u said from beginning to middle ways it was normal then the rest was marvelous. It’s called building up the anticipation. A lot of artists that do that are the best in the world.
