This song was written by E. E. Hewitt who was bed ridden from an injury. If she had no had this affliction this song may have never been written. She has been gone a long time but she probably has many stars in her crown. Jesus said John The Baptist is the greatest man born of woman but even the least in the kingdom of Heaven is greater than he. Blessed be the name of the Lord!

This was one of my Brother's Favorite Hymns. He wanted it done at his Funeral and I Forgot. He passed Dec 12th, 2016. I just forgot...but sure He Forgives Me. I play keyboard and Accordion. I play it for him now...

Praise God for Eliza E. Hewitt who wrote this beautiful hymn. She wrote over 1700 hymns. She has a birthday coming up this month June 28th. So very thankful for her gift she left for us every time we sing one of her hymns.

I never heard this hymn as a kid (growing up Church of Christ, we wouldn’t have sung it with instruments accompanied…and no judgements to my brethren who us instrumental accompaniment), but this song makes my heart bleed with joy. I rank it with, How Great Thou Art. It is a beautiful hymn. I would have loved to have led it as a song leader in a four-part harmony in A cappella. It is beautiful.

I miss Him Every Day That Comes. It was the 12th of Dec. Mama passed the year before Dec 26th, the Day after Christmas. She was 91, and I know sitting on go. I had been playing Gospel DVD'S All Day. I had the Gaithers Tent Revival in. They were singing "Will the Circle be UNBROKEN ", when she took her last Breath at 7:20pm.

I have opened my hymn book to the original printing 1897 by EE Hewitt of this hymn you are referring to. In the verses, there are two instances of 16th notes and in the chorus, there are also two instances of 16th notes. You are obviously overlooking the fact that all of the gospel hymns that Bill Gaither uses in his productions are his OWN ARRANGEMENTS. Bill does this to smooth out places where a too strict observance of the original timed notes would introduce an element of unevenness of performance by his group of singers. You are also overlooking the even more important rule of gospel hymn performance: Any song may be ALTERED to suit the performing needs of those who are singing/playing. Trying to slavishly reproduce what the writer penned can often lead to awkward renditions. This is commonplace in the field of gospel music performance. The most general rule for gospel music score interpretation is as follows: any deviation is considered acceptable if it results in a more fluid rendering of the music. The only music that is held to the rigid rule that performers MUST play exactly what the writer penned (which includes markings for tempo, dynamics etc) is in the field of classical music. And even here, there are many shades of variation that are acceptable by even the most demanding of conductors.

I don't think we have to follow suit the hymnal The original piece uses "dotted 8th - 16th" and "8th and 8th" and even "16th - dotted 8th" Changing them to 8th - 8th is easier for performers and fellow singers to follow
