patrialibre12 that's part is his persona like Colbert's on Colbert Report. He knows people confuse talking over someone as the same as being right. I can still respect although I don't agree with him. He's seems earnest in his convictions and stands by what he says.
How is O'Rielly such a decent-sounding guy on other peoples' shows and such a jerk on his own? Maybe he should just make a living doing appearances like bob Hope.
If you even go back to all his appearances on the Colbert Report, he's pretty damn reasonable on those appearances as well! It's a bit of a culture shock, but I think his personality on his own show is an obvious ratings-bait.
I remember when O'Reilly's one-time appearance on Colbert Report was a huge event. Now he's been on the Late Show four times, and they're like best friends.
I still think we don't have the right comedians, especially at this most ironic of times. Colbert is not as funny on the Late Night. Is it the writers? OR may be he makes enough now to not show the creativity. The interview with Obama was childish too, plus the interview with Bill O'Reilly was weak. It was literally like watching the TV show in the novel, Hunger Games, while the whole planet is about to burn.
SK B it's because he's not in character anymore and on this show he's just being himself. I think if we didn't know how amazing he was on the CR he'd seem a lot better, but we are always expecting his amazing talent for satire and his quick wit that we are let down when he changes gears and does a much more routine nightly show.
This should be a great example to everyone of how real men act. Even though they have huge differences between them, they can still sit down and have a calm conversation without yelling or calling people names.
Hayden Clifford This is an example of how political debates should be done.In a calm and civilized manner, where you can respect each other, even though yoi habe different views.
Unfortunately a growing number of young misguided men think that being respectful, decent and acting composed towards your political opponents is being "politically correct". Therefore it's better to be a tantrum throwing, loud-mouthed bully throwing personal insults to prove how "independent" and "alpha" you are. It's quite sad many are turning their backs on civil debates/conversations, made to believe that acting like the primary school bully is the way to get respect.
Yes, I agree. Although it's not a consistent thing for Bill O'Reilly. He is reasonable when it suits him, and a screaming bully when it suits him. Stephen on the other hand is a real gentleman all the time.
Rowan Atkinson ikr hahaha, I like watching Bill O'Reilly but I'm a progressive. I think he's a brilliant broadcaster and is far more entertaining than chris hayes or Anderson Cooper
I swear every time he's on Colbert's show he seems so much more reasonable and level-headed than compared to him on his own show. Even when Bill did that debate with Jon Stewart I found myself even agreeing with some of the points he made. Makes me wonder how much of a front he might put on his show.
Christina Barrington On the other hand, if what he puts out on his show is what he expects others to listen to, persona or not, that deserves some level of scorn. Even if Fox rewards that sort of nonsense. At least we have Shepard Smith, hero of America.
no, fuck Bill. he is on a book tour, and is playing you. Appearing genuine is what makes O'Reillys Fox viewers so misinformed. look into his personal life, it's not pretty.
Bill is a Pretty reasonable dude when he's not on his own show Sure he believes some dumb shit IMO But whatever he has that right as long as he's willing to have a conversation with the opposition I don't have an issue with it
I think they actually do... sometimes it can actually be fun to hang out with someone who you disagree violently with AND who doesn't expect you to change your mind.
Oh also fun trivia: on the debate i mentioned above when asked about immigration reform Stewart says illegals should be given a path to citizenship (and mocks the idea of a big wall ...) Bill agrees and says "you should be humane" albeit he claims it's the federal gvt fault (which at the very least is not insane and actually somewhat reasonable).. Yeah, that's the difference right there..
yea its surprising to see he actually seems human here, maybe he has calmed down over the years, i dont know, havent watched clips from his show lately
When Colbert went on O'Reilly's show back in the day Papa Bear picked on him because he pronounced his Irish name like it was French. Colbert quoted him in the foyer joke.
I disagree with Bill a lot. I mean. A LOT. But I think he's a legitimately intelligent guy that just has some deeply rooted misconceptions. Seems like he would be a fun guy to grab a drink with and talk about anything but politics. Unless you're feeling feisty.
Papa Bear is like the final boss-battle of beer-politics; if you can best him and still retain your sanity, you may indeed call yourself Champion. I would like to try, but I suspect I would leave neither sane nor Champion..
It's more the pressure from the network causing him, and many others at fox news, to act the way they are. By no means am I absolving them from being champions of such horrible content, but they are clearly intelligent people and their MO works for them nicely, no matter what we say. Fox news is more like a play. The writer is terrible, the script is horrifying, but the actors are good at their jobs.
It would be great if some genuine Republicans also didn't want a Christian theocracy, so the U.S. could have more of a viable political spectrum rather than "reasonable but centrist" vs. "crazy".
You are part of the problem Markus. Painting one group as crazy and viewing your own side with so little scrutiny is what is done on both sides of the isle and that polarizes the country. It's just not true either, Dems had to nominate one of the most corrupt and unprincipled U.S. politicians ever, because the only other option was a 73 year old socialist sjw with incredibly naive foreign policy.
Chris S I'm a Canadian. Considering the way the country I live in is, I think Bernie would've gotten the U.S. off to a good start at least. I didn't get the impression he was "SJW", is that just a go-to insult or us there evidence behind that?
ajwall1 I suspect that he overplays the conservative stuff on his network to appeal to his viewers, but tones it down significantly around this more liberal audience.
+Harshit Malik - Well... yeah. In the past, I always thought he was an asshole even outside of his show. But recently he's like a reasonable man. To be fair though, he's on Fox News and I can't really tell who's for real and who's playing it up there.
Taxeros that is true, but this is a trap that many religious people fall into: in science we don't need to have absolute 100% certainty of a proposition's truth value to consider it valid, nor does a theory need to be absolutely all-encompassing with all the details worked out and no questions left, for it to be useful and a good model of reality (within certain limits).
pizda matii Correct scientific theory is a model that best explains the facts (observations, data etc) it has to make testable predictions therefore can be falsified. if the predictions can't be confirmed then the Theory is either modified or rejected. I'm reality theories are more often refined as more data becomes available and more tests are made or become available.
I can understand the comparison between Trump and the Catholic Church (abusive to women, decrepit, rich, doesn't pay taxes, etc.), but the Pope isn't nearly as preachy as Bill O'Reilly.
I live in a Red State where talk radio blares from every speaker (it is inescapible) and the Republicans are really up shit creek with Trump and know it. None of the talking heads like him. Some react by trying to put chocolate sauce and caramel on it so that they can pretend Trump is ice cream and not shit and others straight up hate him and have given up to Hillary, pretty much. O'Reilly is being honest here - Trump is the worst thing to happen to his party in a long time. I'd pity them but, frankly, they have only themselves to blame for him getting the nomination.
How people fail to see this is beyond me. This man does damage to the country every single day and there's people praising this piece of shit because of a 10 minute interview where he knows he can't be his normal repulsive self.
Stephen and Bill are actually hilarious together. I think Bill should come on about once a month and have these talks with Stephen. I like these sort of gentlemanly clashes of ideology that's not explosive or bombastic, and they seem like they enjoy it.
exactly, i hate the positive comments about him, humans have such a short attention span, theirs been times when trump sounded sane compared to bill man fuck him
It's wrong to give someone props for being kind because normally they're not? So damned if you do and damned if you don't? Besides that Bill is usually somewhat reasonable, and always acts as a good debate counterpoint to Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert. I kind of wish we could have a version of the Daily Show with both a liberal and a conservative viewpoint, instead of just Noah's liberal viewpoint.
When may we give him thumbs up then? If someone says something which is factually correct, you ought to judge that something on its own merits, not the person uttering it. See, this is why politics is the partisan shit show it currently is, and arguably why it always has been..
Taxeros research the bullshit opinions Bill orielly has said on his show, this maybe a bit to extreme but Colbert might as well have david duke on his show saying 2 plus 2 equals 4, at least hes saying something factual right?
StyxTBuferd this isn't "damned if you do and damned if you don't", this is damned if you do and he just happened to not "do" in this one specific video
What republicans realize now is three things: 1. Donald Trump is not winning. 2. He has proven himself many times to be a terrible person, let alone stable and knowledgeable enough to run a country. 3. If they act like they stopped supporting him after the sexual assault brag, they will be held accountable less. Also for the future they know not to accuse the president of being born in another country just because they haven't seen his birth certificate, and calling him muslim as if its a terrible insult.
O'Reilly acts better on Colbert's show than anywhere else, but I really think the man doesn't need another platform. Could he try _not being crazy_ on _his own_ show?
You are right. I don`t agree with the guy, but he did mellow out. Took him long enough. Weird thing is, I kinda like him. He has a pretty good sense of humor.
If you are basing the insane remark off of his show, that is not really his true character, its a embellished partisan view. Interviews like this are more along the line.
I absolutely HATE saying this... But for some strange reason, when Bill O'Reilly is not hosting his own show I actually agree with 90% of his opinions and feel like he's not actually that bad a guy. On his show however? A complete and utterly insane, ignorantly pompous idiot. I almost feel like he does it on purpose, because the guy in this interview seems like a completely different person.
On Fox News, being fair and reasonable and intelligent will not produce good ratings. So he acts like a ratbag because his viewers are ratbags, and this is the way to get ratings.
As someone who was born in Indiana, traveled, and now lives in Japan, believe me when I say that anywhere a Hoosier goes that isn't Indiana means we're having a blast.
I cannot believe I'm actually saying this, but I really like Bill O'Reilly in this video. I know how a person acts on camera does not accurately portray how they behave in real life, but I've always imagined Bill as a more bullheaded like individual. Here he seems like a genuinely cool sought of guy who would be fun to chat with and hear his opinions on American politics.
Colbert and O'Reilly always always always a great thing to watch. The synergy is solid between the two and each have visited each other in their respectively shows.
someone enlighten me, what is the meaning of keeping on repeating I don't use anonymous sources then say it as a fact on his show? Is it using or not using?
It's like "pushing a narrative" while adding a disclaimer that says "may or may not be true". Then the people watching his show ignore this disclaimer (tbf, almost everyone ignores disclaimers) and then when someone says, "Hey wait! That's not actually true! Here's the facts that prove it," Bill can say, "You should have read the disclaimer!" Win - Win.
Two Irish-American Catholics who disagree on a lot, but manage to get along. Stephen always gets uncomfortable when Bill mentions the Colbert last name because it's actually pronounced COAL - BURT, not that French sounding COAL-BEAR. Stephen changed the pronunciation to the French sounding version for fame, or that's the supposed story on that. You can look that up in an old appearance Stephen made in Bill O'Reilly's fox news show, "The O'Reilly Factor" (also look up Wikipedia and biographies of Stephen). I'm a democrat and I support Hillary no doubt, but I think Bill does made some interesting points which I think are true: Not everyone on Fox News likes Trump. Examples: Shepard Smith, Juan Williams, Dana Perino, Charles Krauthammer, Bret Baier, etc. I don't even think Brit Hume likes Donald. THIS DOESN'T MEAN THEY SUPPORT HILLARY, BUT THEY UNDERSTAND HOW UNQUALIFIED AND ILL PREPARED TRUMP IS. And of course, Bill O'Reilly himself probably doesn't like Trump for president, even though he's pretty friendly with him.
I wouldn't say that he's an awful person. I don't agree with him on everything (or most things for that matter), but he seems like an honestly nice person most of the time.
Shame Shame sorry for my english, i'm not stating my race, i'm stating that i'm outside USA, i write it wrong, i shouldve said i'm from asia, i dont know much about american politics, and i dont really know bill o'reilly, if he is actually nice person then my bad
Arif Rachman Oh that's different. Personally, I find him not too bad. He has made mistakes before I will not deny, but he seems like he is trying his best to be unbiased.
What do you know, Bill got smarter once he had to examine why he's in the same party as Trump. Self examination does wonders on one's understanding of things.
hahaha the whole 'foyer' vs 'cul de sac' was genius. Colbert is brilliant, but also revealed is that oreilly has some comedy/acting chops, which is what he has done every day for 25 years, and why Murdoch snatched him up,...knowing he's a charlatan, and secondarily a comedian.
As someone who lives in Indiana, I'm gonna say Bill's right. It sucks here. It's flat, everyone's overweight and people's yards are littered with Trump signs and Confederate Flags even though we're a northern state.
