Ahoy gents Here is a new build this a dedication build for Mr. Dave Mather this the old Billing boats Third rater NORSKE LOVE The Norwegian Lion. Frankie Day
Another wonderful build is taking shape. Looking squared away Frankie. Measure twice and cut once.....hahahahahahaha. Love your ship builds. Maybe one day I'll muster up the courage to tackle one of these Plank and Beam builds. Bill
She's looking good so far. When it comes to wood models, I like the bones. This is the part where, if done wrong, the entire remainder of the build will be a pain. For me this is the first fun part. The next fun part is the rigging. I'll enjoy watching you build this one for sure. Regards, Solomon
I understand why one would want to make building easier bur if you want a nice scale model from this kit you really should step away from the kit deck and plank it. If thickness is an issue, use 1/32 ply and cut a new deck and then plank with 1/16 basswood strips to match the width of the printed planks or use the kit decks and plank with 1/32 strips over the printed planking. Because of the way the kit is constructed, you can plank the decks off the model and install as one piece. Not trying to be a smartass, I just feel that a few extra efforts can be the difference between a beautiful replica and a paperweight .
Ahoy ihatomi You read my mind I am going to plank the deck I already ripped a bunch of planks same width of the printed deck planks on the deck. I remembered when I first built this kit 37 years ago I applied one coat of Zspar clear semi varnish from a boat store the entire kit is all mahogany with a couple sheets of printed Ramon wood. When I applied the varnish you can see the luster of the wood grains in the wood and printed deck lines vanished away forcing me to plank the deck. I will be doing the same on this kit Thanks for the suggestion Frankie Day
