Evolution causes Republicans to reject Science, scientists, educated specialists, and the media. It's all about what they see as an existential threat from people of color, liberals, and secularism. Logic went out the window in recent decades.
Close your eyes or cover the byline and forget it's Barry Diller the billionaire. Pretend it's your dad or your priest or rabbi. He's pragmatic. He makes sense. And he has doubts about what any sane person would have doubts about.
Just quit, show them how you feel. Get back at them then you won't have to confess to people who don't know you or care where you work. Quit complaining.
@@ChantYip I don't believe Mr. Trump is qualified to be a witch doctor, or president for that matter. I did not accuse him of anything. And no, I am not obliged to give you a reason. The space does not exist here to even begin that discussion.
Why can't the corporations that own us open their billfolds, and pitch a few bills back into the collective that provided it to them in the first place?
It will take at least 5 to 10 years to recover. Cruise lines, air travel , theaters and concert venues will never recover. You can thank chyna and the orange menace for this.
@@653j521 but there was not as bad of an economic situation either. It was happening before corona-19 showed up. It is not going to get better any time soon. Virus or no virus.
@@653j521 The global population back then was a fraction of what it is today. Cities mostly weren't busting at the seams with over-crowding. Resources weren't stretched so thin back then. Globalization mostly didn't exist. There was also no commercial air travel to spread a virus so rapidly around the world. Mass transit as we know it today also didn't exist and few people drove cars. A very different world we have created now.
What he says makes a lot of practical, intelligent sense. He’s certainly right about the next few months of chaos. But there’s no way we’re gonna be out of this by Labor Day. We can’t solve the economic issues without first solving the public health ones. And we can’t solve the public health issues because republicans don’t care about thinks like ‘public health’ nearly as much as they care about the election. Things won’t be ‘normal’ until we have a vaccine or a cure.
@@Ot-ej5gi Just an observation from the vid. Not Off Topic at all; which Trolls are always pulling from the discussion to a subject not related. You are aware Trump's tremendous trash tactics have gained Trump much more derogatory terms, right?!?! Mentioning the 3 Trump casinos failings, Trump Airlines, Trump Vodka, Trump University, Trump Steaks, Trump's USFL Team, etc... that would be "Trolling"!!! hahaha
@the jamesreid sure...he lost all the moderates, women, African American and educated male votes and is working in his hardcore base... but they will stick with him... because THAT group..were losers when he came along and will always be losers after we run him out...enjoy his DeathMarchTo2020...should be .....killer

if you're in travel leisure food whole sale retail you're dead those hollywood actors are done movie producers are done concerts are done any establishment relying on the public walking in are finished people aren't going to have money to spend at the box office or a concert it will take years for them to recover and that's if they recover at all good luck to them
Nicholas Esposito What is "dead" and "done" is your ability to use ANY punctuation. That makes your comment look like it was typed by a five year old with a head injury.
Travel and Leisure will not go away. People need to move around, so that will not change. Food? Are you serious here? Or did you mean to make another point? You have run on sentences and it is quite confusing.
Wow ...!!! Never Heard Dillier speak in this tone ... He Obviously is Very Shaken in His Assessment of the State of the Nation ... Elections have Consequences ...
Tom Nichols explains it in the book "The Death of Expertise". A large swath of the population resent truly intelligent people that's why an intelligent person like this guy could never be president. When 40% of Trump supporters believe a vaccine will be used by Bill Gates to implant microchips in our body's you realize just how bad things have gotten.
The question is always asked about the economy as though it’s the businesses but I can’t take a trip go on an airplane spend money if I don’t have it !! The economy is not just the business but also people using the business and even if we nail down all the precautionary steps to work many people will be playing catch-up on car notes mortgages rent credit cards so the fall? Labor Day? We’ll see
Honestly the only way to have a “rapid” rebound would need to be a two step process . Things would need to reopen to start production and get the wheels moving . We would also need extra rounds of stimulus as well to get people back up .
The biggest problem is that Trump and Republicans refuse to give the people any more stimulus, it’s insane. If they had continued the stimulus, which wasn’t that much, but you could at least make your car payment and some left over for a utility bill and gas. They gave it to corporations so that people could go back to their minimum wage jobs. Is the old Republican pull yourself up by your own bootstrap, refusing to see that there is no bootstrap for millions of us.
Never heard of this guy before, but he appears to be a level-headed 'tell it like it is' kind of guy. He makes a lot of good points here. Witch doctor...lol.
As an American who earns between $15,000 to $175,000 a year we should decide not to pay any credit cards, loans, mortgages, or rent for 1full year without penalties. That’s a solution. Coming up with $3trillion from the government and hand it to Walmart, Starbucks, LA Lakers, Disney, Kennedy Center, executives from Koch Industries , Financial Institutions, Insurance Companies, etc. doesn’t work for me
Circulation systems in an airplane, restaurant, movie theater, mall etc.... will recirculate breathed air of everyone regardless of you're 6, 10, 20 feet apart.
With such a shortage of leadership and common sense from legislative branch it is refreshing to see a reminder of what real leadership looks like. Positive spinning the harsh reality we live in only serves to increase risk to both our economy and human lives.
I think you misunderstood. They said dont heard them, thinking you are protecting yourself. Save them for medical staff, who use them to protect patients and each other
My man!!!!! Thank God that I had the foolishness to retire to Costa Rica where they have got it right. Very social people who have taken social distancing seriously. No stupid hoarding cuz most here can't afford to. God I miss the beach but will enjoy again soon healthy and alive at 65
Go back to work where? What percentage of businesses in the cities are Mom and Pop small business? Does anyone know? I own one, I'm in a group of M&P small business owners in LA. All of us owe more than 20k in back rent, some as much as 40k. Who in their right mind is going to plop that down to reopen on the chance that Garcetti or Newsom shut us down again? The backbone of LA is Mom and Pop, non-franchise small business. It has to be responsible for at least 25% of all jobs? Who knows. But, those jobs are gone and are not coming back.
I just watched the DOW exceed 25,500 . At the beginning of this crisis, it dropped to 18,500. An improving stock market in no way reflects the 40 million people now drawing unemployment. Mr. Dillard is right. You can't have economic growth with zero revenue coming in, it's impossible! Artificial ways of propping up the stock market won't last. Massive bankruptcies are coming , it's inevitable. The Witchdoctor-in Chief has no magic wand to miraculously make this go away.
I agree with him. History has shown that it will take a long time for labor and business to recover. Governments will be laying off hundreds of thousands of workers due to budget shortfalls.
Donald isn't dreaming, he's dismissing the problem because it really hasn't hit him - yet. He'll be gone anyways, Nov. 2020 can't come soon enough for the majority in this country.
I had to put the volume of this video and my desktop at maximum to even hear this. If even amateurs can make excellent videos nowadays, this is absurd.
A lot of us were already in debt at the beginning of the pandemic. When we were out of work for 4 weeks. Then the stimulus checks were late. I just don't see how they expect anybody to recover. Even after selling off your extra car or boat. We're out of money.
I am a traveler. Love to travel. I planned a minimum of 3 plane trips this year. No way I am booking a plane ticket right now. No Texas, no California, no Caribbean. I don't trust the government or the airlines to get me anywhere safely right now. Just spent $2200 on patio furniture and flowers. I am home for the summer.
I appreciate this man and his reasoned opinions. At the same time, people who made holiday plans through Expedia are crying for their money back after their reservations were cancelled, and simply cannot get it. They're being offered vouchers instead of their money back. They're being told that the airline is holding the money when the airline says it isn't. They're being told the legally required refund will take 8-12 weeks, and then 12 weeks more. There are Facebook sites filled with people trying to recover many thousands of dollars. Remember, this happened in the run up to the holiday season. Mr Diller needs to find out what his company is doing, if he doesn't already know, and address that. I eventually got my money back by contesting the credit card charge for the flights my airline cancelled. I, and thousands of others, will never, ever use Expedia again.
I'll take the honest billionaire's opinion over the sociopathic Traitor that tells you he is a billionaire when he is nothing more than a spoiled brat conman.
Only a hand out when the socialism is for an immortal legal entity that counts as a human being and feeds on money.. and satiating shareholders.. with no moral compass and externalities of cost, onto us...
I give it to the President, as a businessman himself, for trying to help people get back to normal. People have to take personal responsibility seriously. Wear a mask, glasses, wash hands, boost Vit D and C, help the sick, elderly and those compromised in health to stay safe. Other countries can and are doing this and getting back to work and school without increasing Covid deaths. Surely we can do it, as well.
Who would even think that we could have a recovery by fall. All past recessions took a couple of years for he economy to get moving. A person thinking it could happen by fall is living in a dream world.
If I had a dime for every time someone predicted what the economy was going to do I would be a billionaire. Why do so many billionaires hate Trump? I thought he gave them a big tax break and deregulated industry.
Because kind hearted billionaires understand that they should try to do good with the fortune that's been bestowed upon them. Some people want to use their money to help others not just themselves.
I believe Mr. Diller may have been the first to outsource manufacturing to China when he controlled Sunbeam Corp about ~20 years ago. I have never forgiven him for leading the stampede to "flatten" the managerial curve. He is a very bright man, however, and worth listening to.
We should take a strong clue from Emirates- now they understand the problem. No matter where anyone is seated on a jet, everyone is breathing in the very same pressurized, circulated cabin air. They were brilliant & thoughtful as they installed HEPA filtration for their onboard circulated air systems. They've always kept a high standard of keeping these filters clean, yet since the pandemic, they have upped their maintenance schedules. When domestic US airlines start doing this, plus masks I will consider flying once again.
We will recover, slowly, provided - and this is so important and essential - Donald and his cronies are removed from office in 2020. Economies have never just "bounced back" - it always take a bit longer to built back up after a fall.
Social distancing IS on everyone's responsibility. It's your acting that it is important. Yes there will be a comeback For THOSE WHO act accordingly. There will be Bankruptcy for THOSE who love to steal MONEY.
We should all be worried right now; unless you're rich. These are difficult times that we will have to overcome, amid many problems that the global pandemic has brought us. Good luck to everyone.
When Hertz, Neiman-Marcus, J.C. Penney's, most airlines and hotel chains, plus scores of other major employers go under, not to mention literally millions of mom-and-pop businesses, there is no way America will rebound in a year or two. It will take decades, if ever, to regain a semblance of what once was. And all thanks to the insistence of Democrat mayors and governors to keep us all under house arrest and all businesses locked down in order to save a relative few lives. What about the millions of lives that will be lost through suicide, the inability to get medical care for a host of other ailments and diseases because hospitals are locked down and many closed for good? Hey, a dozen people died yesterday in car accidents around the country. Time to outlaw cars and driving!
The billionaire is right, certain segments of our service and transportation industry can't be opened with "physical distancing". So they might as well be opened all the way or closed all the way. It just depends on your level of ability to withstand risk. Since humans have far exceeded their carrying capacity, and are "befouling their own nest", we can continue to expect diseases to occur with more frequency since Nature is going to bring us back into a sustainable herd size. If war doesn't do it (predation) then pestilence will.
Filler is so spot-on. The summer will be a very interesting social, biological, and financial experiment. Hope everyone has limited their spending and saved some cash for when the poop hits the fan. The stocks haven’t hit bottom yet. A lot of businesses will go bankrupt in the next 5 months; just wait and see.
