Outspoken billionaire Rob Hersov, together with businessman Nick Ferguson, are making a R2bn public offer to the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA) to acquire 6 South African airports.
Hersov and Ferguson, co-founders of RSA.aero, are prepared to snap up 100% stakes - or at least majority controlling shares - of the East London, George, Port Elizabeth, Kimberley and Upington airports.
As part of the proposed deal, the pair say they are not looking to acquire OR Tambo Airport (Johannesburg), King Shaka (Durban) or Cape Town International.
"We have made an offer of R2bn, fully funded, to buy a controlling share in the regional airports, and even keep ACSA on as a minority partner. We will further invest many billions in making these regional airports viable and relevant, boosting local economies, creating jobs and supporting aviation," Hersov told the Nielsen Network.
The announcement by Hersov and Ferguson to snap up these 6 airports comes after they recently acquired the Fisantekraal Airport, just outside of Cape Town. The businessmen have converted the airport into the Cape Winelands Airport and aim for it to ultimately become the ‘Lanseria Airport of the Western Cape’.

I believe it will take South Africans, both Black and White to save South Africa, and this will be doable successfully if we all put our best foot forward, and yes we can, with willing hearts, like Rob's.

South Africa has a lot more going for it than many realise. As an american expat in Joburg I'm more optimistic in SA than for the USA (unfortunately)

Next there will be Airport's Company 2, my partner came up with the idea for converting "about to be decommissioned power stations to gas", he spoke with a business partner re the idea, who in turn phoned GM at that instant and the rest as they say is history for one exception, our company, who had the idea, has been left out in the dark

@Rob , Nick and Team, I commend you for being open to partner or propose a stake offer of 20% for PIC for example. I have confidence in well structured private partnership, where everyone knows their role to play, professionally and towards the growth of the Business as opposed to unleashing Cadre deployees to do nothing but milk the same government. While in the process of negotiations, please do spare a thought for a South African Citizens share in the pie. I foresee a brighter and sustainable future for the Country when Citizens of this Country are included in the pie. If sustainability is end goal, I'm happy to further advise. 😊

Sort out law enforcement first and the skies the limit quite literally. You can run away from the hordes but you cant hide from them. This country is a cess pool mate

I hope Rob & Nick can build a second airport for Cape Town, but after the Amazon debacle and the Khoisan, British Airways, Comair & Kulula, I fear that bureacracy will deny it. It is a great idea though, and I hope it does work out.
