This happened to my parents, when my father came home from WWII despite the fact he was employed with a decent job there was no GI Bill or VA loan available for him due to his blackness, which resulted in him moving us into a redline area with a predatory loan. Years later when my parents could us use his VA loan to buy a nice home, they ended up falling victim to "white flight" which resulted in the value of their one and only asset (Our family home) depreciating faster then they could pay it off. My dad passed away and my mother 94 yo now only has SS income, so my brother and I have taken care of her for the past 25 years. The racial wealth gap was created by our government thought giving federal entitlements like The New Deal, GI Bill and government Land Grab programs to newly arrived white immigrants and these government wealth transfer program helped white american accumulate generational wealth and inheritances, while locking out and excluding my parents and grandparents aka the American descendants of slavery from the wealth transfer programs, which has resulted in the accumulation of NOTHING NO-inheritances, NO-wealth for our families and unlike "most" white americans "most" native black american today have to divert a go portion of our household income toward taking care of our parents and grandparents as a direct result of our governments racist laws and legislations.

I know people who bought houses at 103,000 and wound up paying well over 350,000 for it. Those interest rates will give you a lifetime of poverty.

Now multiply this by every city every town and millions of families. ..

And that practice alone black people who were victimized about this practice. Deserve reparations and that practice alone it's not even tip the iceberg

My mentor told me this, they can run your zip code when you apply for a job. Zip shows where you live, what your nationality is, income level and other dynamics to under value your home as well under pay you.

There is going to be a line forming. That's how they segregated people financially, red lining. Banks working with city planners and developers to build different Ethnic territories within every city in America. The subdivisions had clauses in them that plainly stated who they couldn't sell homes to. If you weren't a WASP you were on the list. They pretended to be the perfect people. I can still remember how scandalous it was to be caught doing something wrong, even though everybody was. Pretending not to know what was going on was being complicit.

Got the degrees, bought a home in a middle-class white neighborhood, maintained six-figure+ verifiable income for over a decade, built over 150K in home equity, no bankruptcy, tax liens, job loss or illness. Did I mention the 760 and 741 credit scores? My Platinum Amex? None of it matters. We cannot get a refinance on our home. We have been trying for over 10 years. Redlining has evolved. They don't always just take the neighborhood, they can just put a red sticker on your file. Thank you Real News for the great report on the effects of predatory lending on black people in America. This is much needed assistance African Americans require to continue to survive in the U. S. I have a double graduate degree in the social sciences from a well-respected brick & mortar university but "never" gained access to work with black children or any children here in Greater Atlanta in any way in the last 30 yrs. As science-based youth/human services administration my programs would and will literally lead to no excuse for the overwhelming incarceration of black youth that exists in Ga & the nation. At least 50% of black male youth in the U.S. are being decimated by the U.S. criminal justice system that claim they are "adult felons" and deserve long sentences of secure confinement. Most are actually nonviolent youth with emotional/behavioral disorders which are being seriously excerbated by the system but that can be treated in their communities, but science and scientists (including me) are supressed (and oppressed). I thought completing a PhD would end my problem of not having access to my work with the children but as you point out I was only exploited by online for-profit Walden University. After 7 yrs w/ a 4.0 GPA they harassed me fir another yr., refused to complete my dissertation but dropped the more than $300,000. in student loan debt on me anyway. There are no laws or lawyers that protect African Americans. I can't even get a lawyer to help me. The State of MN who licences the scam university has known for 3 yrs but will do nothing. There was an elderly couple in Glasgow who were threatened by Predatory lender's, when the threats got too much the very elderly lady shot the guy in the knee, he never went back. I am not condoning shooting people, just be aware of how dangerous these lenders are.

Before I knew what Redlining was (back in 2002), I was looking for investment properties in Baltimore City with an Orthodox Jewish realtor in the Reisterstown Plaza area. And he was using one of the big old ADC map books that Realtors used to use before GPS on smart phones and in cars came into prominence. Every page of his book of the city had perfectly drawn light red marker lines around the various neighborhoods in Baltimore. And I specifically remember asking him, who took the time to draw all those lines which were obviously drawn to separate "good neighborhoods" from "bad ones". I don't remember what his answer was at this point because I wasn't thinking that it was done maliciously in any way. So I thought that he just drove each block looking for blocks with vacant houses on it and excluded those blocks. And this could make all the difference in not only COMMISSIONS for a realtor, and appreciation values for investors, but the LACK of appreciation for the folks that were on the wrong side of those lines!!! To think that FHA (the Federal Housing Administration) CREATED Redlining is yet another crime against humanity that this country has committed against Black people in America. America owes Black people probably over $1 TRILLION in reparations not only from roughly 250 years stolen labor and another 100 years after slavery of denial of civil rights and terror, but also REDLINING!!!!

I am white and in 1987 we were looking for a house in a diverse neighborhood. We found the perfect one and our realtor informed us it was in a red lined area, but not to tell anyone he told us. He said we would never make any money off it if we wanted to sell it. We ended up getting the house because we were looking for a home not something to make money on and ended up staying there for 23 years. I never regretted our purchase, it was a great neighborhood.

It was not designed to seriously address the issues of our people but rather to try to pacify us into running back to the democrat plantations by thinking dems are FINALLY serious about addressing our valid claims. Personally, on my mother's maternal lineage side is full blooded Iroquois. On her paternal lineage side is ADOS where I found the actual concentration camp called plantation where my great great grandfather was forced to labour, his labor stolen. My great grandfather owned land and through us govt predatory jim crow steps, my great grand father's land was stolen! He was listed as an Employer farmer who owned his land but somehow got into payments for his own land.

Another area of exploration reverseReparations as my Mother told me: In the early 1970's Insurance Agencies would not let "Blacks" know about helpful Products but only these pay in walk the line in detail ripoffs.
