Shadealade..... IKR?! I mean like it’s great to have a personality like your character because first- it makes your job easier 2- it’s fun and 3- you just be yourself!
I just pulled up the original song from the soundtrack, and it IS in the same key! Amazing!! He goes off just a little in the middle, but it begins and ends *exactly* the same. I wonder if he has perfect pitch, or has just sung it so often, he naturally knows where to start?
I can only imagine how Tolkien would feel watching that scene. His works were always filled with songs and poems that gave his world such a deep story a world's vast history. For him to write a song that not only was one of the greatest moments in the film, but felt like the song was ripped right out of the heart of Pippin where there wasn't a song to begin with. Masterful work. Always brings chills everytime you hear it. Tolkien would be proud.
@@felixreali7101 the song is in the book, but not where it is in the movies, it's on about page 76 of Fellowship and Frodo, Pippin, and Sam are singing it to themselves while leaving the shire.
I just wonder if Tolkien would enjoy them...not as far as how faithful they were but the overall vibe and how dark some of the things in the movies are. Is it what he had in mind? Me and my dad wonder
Instantly it was like people gathered around a campfire, listening to a story, completely silent and carried away by their visions of an ancient world were wizards and halflings fought together to defeat the darkness... A story that never took place, except somewhere in our hearts.
I don't know what's more impressive, his singing voice, how flawlessly he switches accents, or the fact that every single person is too captivated to sing along.
I really enjoy that his answers are not simple one phrase sentences. Even for this clip of just 5 minutes you see how he digs deep in his answers and gives each person's question a proper satisfaction.
Watching this one year later after seeing all the Hobbits extended editions and I have to wonder: How does Billy feel seeing as they used the lyrics of "Home is behind and the world ahead" as part of the script for Gandalf in Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. I'd think it'd be an incredible honor, not only to affect future movies, but also to be quoted from such an historic figure like Gandalf.
@@kevinj4204 he didn't write the lyrics. Bilbo did. Bilbo wrote it to an old tune lost to history. The hobbits sang it while on the way to Buckland. Tolkien put it in The Fellowship of the Ring book 1. Boyd took a small piece of it, changed a couple words, wrote the music for it, & performed it in the film Return of the King.
Look up Winter by Fen, in the second song the songer chants "All shall fall, all shall fail." In the first song they open with "All shall fall, all shall sink, all shall drown, all shall fade with time."
@@sycamoretrees7819 It's more the emotion he sings the words with than the words themselves. It's haunting in a way. There's a lot of similar examples of such quotes but to sing it in the way he does is touching.
@@meganmartians8372 The lyrics are from the Fellowship of the Ring. The Hobbits sing as they travel through Buckland, if I'm not mistaken in the chapter entitled The Old Forest. The words were taken from that excerpt and brought to life by Billy's tune.
His song was one of the most poignant moments in the trilogy! How it continues during the hopeless battle to re-take the river, and chokes me up every time I watch it. He's got some amazing musical talent! So cool to learn how that was written and added to the movie...
Meyb4l People who can't hit a note are not singers. That's what a singer is, someone who can properly sing on key. If you have to rely on technological tricks to make you sound like you're hitting the notes properly, guess what? You're not a singer. What is sad is that this type of thing is now so common that someone like Billy who can sing is looked upon with surprise. It really does make me despair sometimes. But that's why he gives me hope. He reminds me that there ARE still people with actual, real talent in the world. It's why I love him so! (Well, in that way that you "love" someone that you don't know, and who doesn't know or care that you exist.)
Yesica1993 So just to make that clear, I was not surprised that he hit every note, I just wanted to say that I thought it sounded very very good... but idk why this is getting into a discussion x)) Lets just agree on the fact that he is a true singer with true talent :D
The tone of the room completely shifted when Billy started singing. It's like you were transported back into the harrowing but beautiful scenes of Minas Tirith. So good
There’s something about his voice that, when he sings, there’s this angelic quality to it. Now that is real talent, because I got goosebumps as he was singing and I could almost even see the charge of Faramir as he was singing it.
Gandalf : Faramir Faramir Your father loves you. Consoles a broken heart. What a direction. What actors did was beyond describing in words. Peter Jackson we love you.
What an absolute professional, class act Billy is. That question must get so annoying and it obviously is uncomfortable for him to do, but he goes for it and does it beautifully anyway.
4 Days before the first Coronalockdown in Bavaria, Germany on a Concert " The Melodies from The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit " with a Philharmonic Orchester and a little Group of Dancers and the wonderful Billy Boyd. It was so fantastic and amazing. I closed my eyes and feel like i was on the yourney. The music and the wonderful voice from Billy Boyd telling the Story, singing the songs and playing music. ❤🥰😍
LOTR a true masterpiece!! I cannot hear Master Hobbit sing his songs and not be deeply affected . It kinda soothes the sorrowful heart Bless you laddie bless you. 🥲🙌
Okay I just figured it out; for Tolkien, the LANGUAGE and the MUSIC IS THE MAGIC!!.... I can't believe I didn't think of this before. But think about it, how Eru Iluvatar the Creator sung the world and the Maiar and the Valar into existence... Or how a simple conversation between Legolas and Gimli can draw such emotion as to bring you to tears.... just by a greeting. Or how Saruman's magic is in his voice and the spells he can cast on people.... That is the genius of Tolkien, that is what society does not have anymore, is the magic and power of language and the love/virtue it carries between souls
