I had a professor in college in 1989 say that he thought Billy Bragg may be the only musician that will save us all. 27 years later, I think he was still right.
Just for clarification, he has updated this song CONSTANTLY over the years. I first saw Billy in the mid-80's and have seen regular concerts since. The lyrics always reflect the times.
@@powerofthetime Socialism has its flaws but not half as bad as corporatism that controls so much. More of a Pirate party person myself but i can see the good Socialism has done for the world. Even of a lot of their modern politicians are quite dim. although that describes politicians in general i suppose
Yeah, I first heard Billy Bragg in 1983, and it blew me away how he could command a stage and carve out a musical space, just one man with a guitar and a HUGE voice.
Philip Shade I’ve seen and heard him perform this one dozens of times! The only duplicates are the recordings.... it’s as if he makes it up as he goes along. Close enough, anyway.
What a version! Every version he does of this contains the original genius, but this takes it up another level. What was he on at this time...? Stunning.
seen him in 1990 in a small gig in birmingham england, was so quality! thats when i fell in love with the bragster, seen him loads since, the first time was with the great johnny marr x
I saw Billy Bragg last night in Dublin and it was brilliant, he is a very funny man and very inspiring. he played this song last and everyone joined in, thanks for a great night Bill!
Yea, it's really powerful because he is singing about so many serious things that I am witnessing right now. It's good to know he's still thinking about this shit.
Billy´s just great! I loved his songs and shows as early as mid-80`s (in Helsinki, Stockholm & Roskilde). Thanks! It´s great to have his voice, guitar and guts around - VERY empowering on times like these, with the big money telling so-called politicians what to do...
Still the only artist who can make my 39 year old non-dancer body move in a way it has not moved in a while...I just wish there was a big ole dancer floor with a bunch of people looking scared in the periphery, like the old days in the eighties.
billy bragg is amazing! intelligent and adaptive... love this new version that brings current issues into the spot light while maintaining the the classic sound of this great song
No no no no no no Billy. How could he drop the greatest line in rock and roll history "here comes the future and you can't run from it, if you've got a black list I wanna be on it".
@diabloblanco75 your words are as much an inspiration to me as Billys are. To hear a marine talk as you do gives me great hope. LONG LIVE FREEDOM TO THE HUMAN RACE. Where ever you live and whatever your political or religious belifes, freedom to you. Long live DISSIDENCE. For we are not human without it
"Will the RU-vid give MTV the sack?" It did but it seems to be headed down the same path of corporate sell out that MTV was, but not if the community has anything to say about it, just look at Rewind this year
