Clive has finally left us. He managed to cheat the law of averages for such a long time. Died at 80. A beautiful human being, always kind, always funny, never a threat, never malevolent. A dying breed of great specimens...
There aren't many like Billy Connelly, he just tells the truth, no matter what it's about he says it exactly how it is. No one is immune, nothing is taboo, life is life. God Luvya Billy, hang in there! ❤️
God doesn't exist, and Billy knows it! Billy Connolly is a legend! And an Atheist like all great comedian's, Ricky Gervais, George Carlin etc. etc. etc.
I enjoy the fact he sees everyday things as funny. I was blessed to have a Grandma who was the same. She found something comical in everything. I could write a book about the funny things she did whilst being stunningly attractive great fashion sense.
Get Billy on for a chat and end up in stitches, no script, just natural talent, his own unique take on any subject is second to none. ....he doesn't try to be funny. ......he is funny. .....oor Billy. ...THE BIG YIN
absolutely brilliant, heralded in a new era of success for billy in the '90s. of course, being old friends with the wonderful mr. james, it was always going to be good (beard or no beard), but it doesn't surprise me he chose clive's show to reveal the 'sleek' new look. that last bit at the drive-in mcdonalds, so simple but fecking hilarious
There is only one Billy Connolly. No one else has every person in pain with laughter. He is just relentless. Once he gets going he gets quicker and quicker and you cant draw breath. Him with Tom Cruise on Parkinson is so funny and Tom cruise is in tears. Michael Parkinson is the most experienced talk show host on the planet and even he gives up asking questions and just lets him go.
@@bungodancereadie8018 Totally agree, he lives this kinda double life. I'm a believer in each to their own, but I don't suffer fake bastards like Cruise. Scientologist, isn't he .?
HUGE because it was the first PUBLIC gig without the beard. The beard had been his physical facial defense against the emotional pain he had felt all his life.......That was a massive emotional turning point in his life!!!!! He was at his most publicly exposed...Out there and no beard to hide behind..... I love Billy because he is not only the greatest story telling comedian that I have either watched or even heard of........he is also an incredibly brave man coming up from the hell that was his childhood and then self destructive addictions!
My daughter and I met Billy in a Edmonton Alberta Canada hotel hallway approx 8pm. We couldn't get over how tall he was very friendly instantly before we realized who he was. He said very cheerfully 'Good evening pretty lasses how are we this evening'. We stood there rather dumbfounded my young daughter said 'that was Billy Connolly'. His wife says he flirts with everyone and I say yes in a very innocent way which is how she meant it as well.
Bloody brilliant - Billy on top form. And Clive was very nearly as good an interviewer as Michael Parkinson - the highest praise I can give - like Michael, he actually allowed his guests to talk.
Spot on; CJ allowed Billy's blinding talent the space it deserves - see him on one of the background monitors mirroring Billy when he talks about the 'auld' Scottish folk song. Delighted to find this uploaded; had it on an old VHS, now long gone. Haven't watched it in years but remembered so much of it. Two geniuses at work.
@@rich.e very much so. Two guys from very different backgrounds, but so talented. Clive James is a great loss. If you haven't read any of his books, please do. Especially the autobiographies.
This aired on Saturday 27th October 1990 on BBC Two - as Billy mentioned he had to shave for the film "The Big Man" where he said "last December" which meant December 1989, as the film was released in August 1990.
great clip. so much mutual respect , and genuinely finding each other very funny. that last 2 and a half minutes has got to be some of the best TV ever......great story from Clive about the Turtle neck and Pscyho, then the line from Billy about a 24 hr drive in taxidermist (!) , and then the Drive-thru Mcdonalds communications issues. sensational. thanks for the upload. :)
Michael Parkinson was the same with Billy. In fact both Billy and Kenneth Williams were superb on Michael's shows, as Michael said he never really had to do much work, both men could talk and be funny for hours without a question ever being asked.
Thank you SO much for uploading this! I have all Billy’s Clive James interviews, but on VHS. I don’t have a video recorder any more so haven’t seen them in years. I also have the whole series of “Billy” (the sitcom that they’re talking about in the interview) with no way to transfer it to DVD or even watch it 😫
@@aderynmawr Are you able to upload the sitcom Billy to youtube? It's a very rate nowdays and only one eposide on here I believe. It shows a great other side to billy.
richard small I would love to but as I said before, just about everything I have from that time is on VHS. I’d love to see it again and have also hunted for it online with very little luck. Unfortunately, if/when I find someone to transfer my VHS onto DVD, there will be a fair few tapes that will be ahead of Billy in the queue. I certainly will continue to try to find someone though and will definitely upload them to RU-vid ASAP.
@@aderynmawr Ok try and get a boyfriend who knows how to upload online, lol.I do hope you can find someone to do it,as I have only seen the one episode and Billy was great!
"You have to join the Masons to get the order right". LOL even just throwaway 1 liners from a guy with a working class Glasgow sense of humour are brilliant.
Watching clips like this makes me realise how professional The Interviewers are because I just know if that was me I'd be laughing so hard I wouldn't be capable of asking Billy Connolly one single question. Thats how funny Billy Connolly is. ""The Big Yin"" 🙏 GODBLESS Him ❤
And the sheer genius of Clive James is that he was wise enough to just shut up and let Billy go, only facilitating where necessary instead of trying to "interview" him.
TY Bill. Beannacht leat a leanbh mo chroí. Become again or not it's up to you. I remember a story told where you were dropped on your head like Leonardo.
Bill connolly is like samson, he is not the same without all his hair. When he is not bearded up, and long hair, he comes over as quite feeble in a way. Not the same confidence. Clive james and billy connolly were both very funny, and its nice we can see these shows from all those years ago.
