Billy Jack Fight Re-Cut and Expanded

The fight in the park from the classic movie "Billy Jack," re-cut and expanded.
This version of the fight is about a minute longer than the original.
The previously-unseen footage in this video is just a small part of what is available in the "cut-your-own fight" section on the bonus disc of the 35th Anniversary Billy Jack DVD.
That footage has no audio whatsoever, so I am very grateful to the community at www.soundsnap.com for all of the sound effects I used in this video.
Adding all the sound effects, one at a time, and trying to line them up with the action, was for me the most challenging and time-consuming aspect of making this video. The final sound effect I added was the ambient park sound audio over top of all of the clips, including background traffic and birds. That audio, also from soundsnap.com, was recorded by Justine Angus in a park in Sydney Australia- thereby allowing me to import birds from Down Under to the parks of the U.S.
Here's some of the text from the "cut-your-own fight" folder on the 35th Anniversary Billy Jack DVD:
"The footage in this folder is most of the remaining negatives from the original fight scene shoots in 1969 in Prescott, AZ and 1970 in Santa Fe, NM (you can tell the difference by the jackets, the breath, and the white, frostbitten feet).
You will see parts missing. They are the clips that were used in the original film.
By providing this footage, we are encouraging you to come up with your own version of the fight scene."
Finally, I'm particularly grateful to Tom Laughlin for creating the character and the film "Billy Jack." I loved this movie when it was widely released in 1973, and saw it at the theatre multiple times.
Thirty-five years later, I still love this film.
You can buy the DVD boxed set of the Billy Jack Trilogy from Billy (Tom Laughlin) himself here:
billyjack.com/
Worlwide rights to the Billy Jack films have recently been acquired by: www.billyjackri...

I was a kid when this movie came out, there were lines wrapped around the theater to get in. Billy Jack had a universal appeal to everyone, a hero that would fight for the underdogs in the face of tyranny.

I think this movie inspired lots of people to pursue martial arts in the early 70s. I took up Judo right around the same time and practiced my moves on my younger brother.

I don't know how many times I went to see this as a kid back in the 70's. First time at the drive-in in Montclair, California then at the Grove Theater in Upland, California. I probably saw that movie over one hundred times. Remember, they didn't kick you out back then after a showing. You just had to move so they could clean up.

Tom Laughlin gives full acknowledgement to Bong Soo Han, as he came to be known in the US, in the movie's credits. The Billy Jack movie served as an introduction of Hapkido to the west. Han had a co-starring role in the Billy Jack sequel. Billy Jack, and Tom Laughlin, are absolutely genuine- a fraud by no means. It was the Billy Jack movies which introduced and elevated the prominence of hapkido, and of Han Bong Soo.

Korean guy doing all the kicking. I started training in martial arts in 1978 or '79, had done a little Judo as a kid. this is one of the first kicks I learned, from watching "Billy Jack". As a beginner, I could do it. Also, I could do a back kick right up to person's head, and had a powerful instep kick (probably from punting footballs alot). But as I got older, if I tried to do a back kick up to head, I risked tearing muscles in my legs and popping my knee in my plant leg. Even with many, many years of training, stretching, and kicking. Funny how your body changes. Hapkido is a very good Art.

I loved this movie back in the day. Bon Soo Han did most of the fancy stuff, which is hapkido. I got to meet Mr. Han in toronto in the early 80's when they tried to film a remake of Billy Jack but it was halted when Tom was injured during filming. Mr. Han was a very nice, professional man and very skilled.

The first time I ever saw a long line at a movie theater. I remember it being premiered on TV and getting to watch it as well at about 10 years old. My dad who watched few movies and was generally a sitcom viewer, commented that it must be a good movie to watch considering the theater being lined up with people. Of course the TV premier was cut up a lot, not showing the nudity, and a lot of the vulgarity censored, it was still one that stuck with me over the years.

God it'd be fun to do this to all the bankers and politicians.
@bipblake
@bipblake 10 лет назад
If ya think THAT would be fun, get a load of this, cos then you'll REALLY wanna do this to em. So I was listening to my radio the other night, & Oh the things I heard. For example, did you know that banks have to keep or have X-Amount of dollars in order to keep there banks running? And if they should happen NOT to have that amount, if you have an account with em, & you happen to have any kind of interest growing on your account, the banks are allowed to take that money away from your account cos its there money? I think (if I heard right) the bank can take up to 20% of your interest or even more, on your account with em, & there's nothing you can do. In fact, I heard em say on the radio, the banks could pretty much take what they want. I also heard that the big-wigs in government are buying up all the guns & ammo cos they can go into ANY city & declare Martial Law without ANY kind of intervention from local authorities and even the mayor. Now I don't know how much of this is all true, but if any or all of it is, LOOK OUT! They also said on the radio, that one of the reasons government is buying up all the guns N such, is so they can prepare for if & when the banks start "Taking" that interest from peoples accounts, they (government) will be ready for an uprising from the citizens, when the citizens finally had, had enough & begin to start a revolution or rebel against authority. I guess when people start having there money taken from em, that would be enough to push ANYONE over the edge. Like I said, I don't know how much of this (if any) is true or not, but it sure would explain all those story's ya here, on how the government is buying up all the guns & ammo, now wouldn't it? Go figure.
@heartfire451
@heartfire451 10 лет назад
Bryan Allen I simply ask myself this question. Would the bankers do that if they could? Answer? Hell yes they would!!! Would our government back such banks and kill us for fighting back? Yes. How do I know? History. What is past is prologue. They did it in the past so they would do it now.
@bipblake
@bipblake 10 лет назад
heartfire451 Oh I agree with ya 100% I never did & I never will trust government, cos they've been caught in way to many lies. Does the Gulf Of Tonkin ring a bell? How about the JFK assassination? Anyone who still believes that Oswald acted alone, is far beyond any help I can muster. I just read a book & its all based on FACTS & long story short, those FACTS don't match up to Oswald being the lone gunman I can tell ya that, cos the FACTS say different & they make WAY more sense, than had Oswald acted alone. We were also lied to about Roswell to. The military IS by rights, an act of government, cos they move when the president says to move. First it was said (and this was in THERE words, we have recovered a flying disk) No civilians said those words, the military which is an act of government did. Then they changed there story saying it was a weather balloon. Now I don't know about you, but the day comes that our own military don't know the difference between one of our own weather balloons & a flying disk, Lord help us. lol My dad was in the war. And even I KNOW what a weather balloon looks like. Hell they were flying above our house all the time when we lived near the damn base. Now I'm not saying it was a UFO that crashed or not. But why were we given 2 different versions to it? The beauty about the truth is, its the only version you ever have to remember. And don't even get me started on the lies of 9/11 The terrorist were suppose to of been Saudis, so instead of attacking Saudi Arabia, who do we attack? Iraq. When Pearl Harbor was attacked, did we attack Spain? No. we attacked Japan. And why? Cos there the country that attacked us first. So here's my question, where's the logic in attacking Iraq when the terrorist were Saudis? And no one can ever convince me, that there weren't terrorist camps in Saudi Arabia when 9/11 took place. Hell, Bin Laden WAS a Saudi. But back to your post, yea I agree 100% with ya. That's why the government is buying up all those guns and ammo for. I think at some point, there's gonna be a breakdown of epic portions, & people are gonna say, "WE HAD ENOUGH" And that's when the shits gonna really hit the fan as the uprising begins. I hope I'm wrong on this, but all the signs seem to be pointing in that direction.

This is so much better than the way this scene appeared in the movie. I can't understand why they left so much martial arts action on the cutting room floor. I guess they wanted to make room for more crappy folk songs and hippie "psychodramas". Bong Soo Han was great though, he should have been the next Bruce Lee. I think having his name attached to the Billy Jack movies killed his career.

Your re-edited Billy Jack proves that Tom Laughlin did do his own fighting scenes. I was impressed and actually like the fight scene better. I still wonder how the f did you do that? The Trial of Billy Jack fight scene is the best too, couldn't improve on that. He goes with the likes of Jesse Ventura, they should had teamed up

I wouldn't take the time to remove my boots in a street fight.... but it does make a big difference in power and placement removing them. If you look at the movie carefully, he didn't just remove his boots to fight: he lead his enemies around to a position where he could use his advantage the most. Given a choice, I would fight barefoot, but not in a rocky glass ridden parking lot.
