The original honky tonk hero. Gave us all so much inspiration. To me he was the best. He told his life story as he sang his songs. A true gem, diamond in the rough with a heart and soul as big as Texas. A real troubadour. R.I.P. Billy Joe Shaver. Just like your music, in our hearts sir, you will live forever.
Good ones gone on.... Lost so many loved ones this last year. Lost 2 life long friends, 2 brothers & a nephew. 2020 took great talent. 22 & 23 family & friends. Hurts..
Went to see Billy at Poodies a long time ago when Eddie was still alive, still in the top 5 shows I’ve ever seen. Met Billy at the end, he’s got so much kindness and integrity in him, a true legend.
I knew Billy Joe just as a person through mutual friends before I ever saw him perform. Only afterword did I learn of his widespread friends base. He was a very humble person with no pretense to impress anyone. He gave me some koozies one day while he visited the shop where I worked. I painted the t-tops on a 80 corvette he had bought to play with awhile. He was always interesting to talk to but sometimes you had to start the conversation because he and I were from different worlds. Back then I did not know his backgtound and I wish I could have asked him about his life more than just what he offered upfront. He did not seem to mind talking about his early years. I had a similiar accident in a woodshop as a young man but not as sever as his. I ran into him several times at the rot rally in austin when he performed there in the heat. I miss talking to him but Im sure his is happier now where he is. Maybe no heartache.
Incredible show.... so glad Billy had this crack band doing his historic music justice in his final years. God Bless You Billy Joe so many great nights with you and Eddy down in Austin.
More American than mom and apple pie! My hero! Had the pleasure to meet him 3 times and he is a total class act. More talent in his little pinky then all the new music people. Please recover and come back to Arizona soon.
I musta notta hada lotta exposure to Billy Joe, but better late than never. It only took me hearing a few tunes and Billy telling a few good stories to understand that he's obviously a living legend. Oh, the boys in the band absolutely kill it. Peace. Out.
He was primarily a songwriter, but a surprisingly authentic performer. He simply presents his 'being' to you. That might be too much 'reality' for some. But for those of us who 'know,' we like this presentation of 'being.'
Just saw Billy Joe Shaver last Saturday night in Temple,Tx. He is the real thing great songwriter and sings from the heart.Got a great band with him too! Willie P.
BJS my all time favorite American Cowboy Hero! Lucky enough to get to hang out with him a few times on the Alabama gulf coast and in Nashville, he's really a great guy. What ya see is what you get. He told me that he thought the finest thing you could do is give the world a song. MyDaMnWoRd 😬 🔫
I will remember that forever, it sounds just like something he would say. I onc asked him how he comes up with so many songs and he told me he still had dozens written down that neeeded more time invested in them. I asked hm where he kept them and he said in his boot and grinned.

Rest In Peace Eddie say hello to my brother Tony he lived fast to you guys are missed big time but we will all be together someday don’t no when though because as you know were
Billy Joe and Guy Clark ...irreplaceable loss of our story tellers... That 3 piece backing him here is rock solid, and this guitar player is in the pocket... (lousy filming on him my only critique... missed the entire “honks tonk heroes” solo...)
That guitar player isn't fit to carry Eddy's guitar case. Love the songs, but the live show isn't the same. On a positive note, it's wonderful that Billy Joe is still doing gigs because these wonderful songs need be heard.
Billy Joe has been straight for years.comes onstage with a saddle bag full of water.hes a 70 something year old who still does over a 100 dates a year.
just came from his show in Tomball, Tx outstanding even though he fell 3 days ago, both eyes black...he is 78 years old, yes sobor for years, a Texas Legend!
