Billy's positive energy was unparalleled. When he played with The Beatles during their final two albums, he more or less kept them together, when Billy was out of the studio, all they did was fight. But when Billy was there, they just wanted to jam, jam, jam.
Billy Preston played this song and one other as the very first musical guest on Saturday Night Live (October 11, 1975). The same episode had Janis Ian singing two songs (one being "At Seventeen"). Another music-related act was Andy Kaufman doing his famous lip-syncing bit to the "Mighty Mouse" theme song.
Check out "That's the Way God Planned It." Recorded by Billy on the Beatles' Apple Records. Did you know that Billy Preston played organ on "Get Back" by the Beatles? He was the only artist the Beatles ever gave co-credit to on their label. The Apple Records single of "Get Back" says The Beatles with Billy Preston.
"The Concert For Bangladesh" LP is my third favorite live album of all time, after The Who's "Live At Leeds", and Deep Purple's "Made In Japan." Isn't it a shame that none of these are immortalized in their entirety on film.
I love Billy Preston. The man who was one vote away from becoming a fully vested member of the Beatles! Died too young. Struggled with his sexuality and had developed severe depression and drug problems. He deserved more support to be who he was. I'm glad the Rock Hall decided to honor him this year, but I wish he was there to see it. Rest in peace.
Preston was the only musician given credit on a Beatles label; the group's 1969 single "Get Back" was credited as "The Beatles with Billy Preston". He continued to record and perform with other artists, notably George Harrison after the Beatles' breakup, and Eric Clapton, and he played keyboards for the Rolling Stones on many of the group's albums and tours during the 1970s.
Love Billy Preston. A true loss to the music world. He's jammed with just about everybody. I remember when this song came out. I drove my aunt crazy listening to it on the Top Ten AM radio. It just kept playing every 30 mins or so 🤣
I also saw them around the same time you did. They played at a county fair in West Palm Beach. I heard of them but didn't know of any of their songs. After the concert, I became a huge fan. What a great band!
@@paulinwoburn9680 I was in college at the time. A friend turned me onto them. I've seen around 400 concerts in my life and that was the best. So glad I got to see Lowell George before he passed.
Billy Preston was a very talented man. His solo songs are great, he had many hits. Some time you should check out "Get Back" by the Beatles, Billy Preston plays keyboards and stands out. (He also appears with them in the "Roof Top Concert" the last Beatles performance, which is filmed) Some people refer to him as "the fifth Beatle"
Some of the best Billy Preston footage is on Concert for George (Harrison). There are many good songs by too many greats to mention, that would be great reaction material. Ck out Billy singing Isn't it a Pity and My Sweet Lord with Eric Clapton and more! Saw him when he toured with the Rolling Stones in 76.
You should check out his version of “My Sweet Lord” from the George Harrison tribute concert. The stage is packed with rock legends, and Billy is featured on vocals and organ. A touching tribute to his friend, George Harrison.
Loved it❤️. Have you done Kool and the gang? I think they are a great band. Get down on it by them is great. They have so many. You gotta see them perform live. Love your reactions. You just go all in.
@@nolimit7959 yeah the sax section really filled out the chords in the studio version and that bari sax really complimented the bass and of course the brass added the punchy fills that just put the icing on the cake. I like it a lot better with piano rather than clav it gave it kinda a ragtime vibe that I feel like is a big part of the song.
Chod, thank you so very much for bringing back these absolutely amazing memories from these songs. Your reviews are just priceless and original. Please try and get to Dire Straits; “Telegraph Road”. Thanks again for your consideration
Swing Down Chariot, Blackbird and I Sang a Simple Song are other great Billy Preston songs. But music wasn't his only thing. When he was young, Billy was a great dancer, Check out Agent 00 Soul... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZgtU4C2xA-o.html
