Sooo true, country and western or bluegrass or what ever this is has always been one of the only genres I'd never listen to but this has me questioning my whole life choices
As astounding as Billy is I have huge respect for him also surrounding himself with expert technical musicians. Each man on that stage oozes individual talent and they compliment each other perfectly, stepping back when needed, adding when needed, they know each other. Billy is the star sure, but all these boys deserve huge respect
They are all amazing and of course Billy is WAY AMAZING... He doesnt barely even look at his guitar... Everyone in the crowd gets tricked... The band is like this is the end.... Jk... I love that... Pysche or sike?
I'm an older bluegrass fan and just heard this today in my car on Sirius xm. Had to watch it when I got home. Reminded me of some of the music the Traveling McCoury's play. Love it!
It’s very similar to the first time I heard the Steeldrivers back around 2009. I was like, this is the most METAL bluegrass I’ve ever heard. Well, share the stage Stapleton, there’s a nu metal bluegrass sheriff in town, and his name is Strings.
It’s cause you have to have natural talent to play the banjo, mandolin, viola or gee-tar to play in bluegrass style. I grew up in Bluegrass, and some of the best musicians in the world are bluegrass players!
as a guitar player, there are moments when a player comes along that causes you to be conflicted. this is one of those moments. holy. f@cking. shit. I'm conflicted about whether I want to practice, or quit.
He will by the grace of God, this young man has a calling. And praise the Lord, I got to listen to his abilities by a close friend. If you read this Billy, keep on brother. I wish I had been blessed with that ability, praise God you are a talented young man bro.
I often scroll through comments of videos I watch. Please don’t let this one be true but I understand it 100%. Billy, learn from your elders and also know soulful music like yours could save a majority of this country. On this note, RIP STV.
How does a person come in contact with meth ? You can see what meth can do with people all around you...why even try it ? Is America such a loveless nation people need this to escape ? Is it hedonisms ?
This dude is setting up a whole new paradigm for Bluegrass guitar. Just like Doc did or Tony Rice did or Jimi Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughan. Can I get a witness?
Completely blown away by the wall of sound. My favourite band is Tool without question followed by acts such as Blind Melon,STP,Pantera,Black Sabbath and such and This Billy Strings is phenomonal!I cannot stop listening to his music.i am absolutely blown away.incredible.
Every musician on that stage is world class. I saw somewhere in the comments here by ADIT ADDICTS "When raw talent stomps the shit out of your musical tastes." That says it all.
I think it's so crazy when you see people that are so good at their craft get almost into a trance when playing/painting/competing. The reach a flow state and it looks almost effortless.
Me too first video I watched a few days ago was this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VFEZOjtrwls.html I thought he was some random guitar player that someone recorded but man is this guy talented
Just cause he looks the part of a prodigy dont forget guys like Ricky Skaggs and Roy Clark are Evey bit as good honestly better they just look like your grandpa. But they can hang behind the microphone and the straw from what I hear.
I just realized there are 7 billion people in the world and I listed 2 I can think of maybe 2 more no way I could get to 7. So yeah I guess your right lol 👏
I never heard of the song Dust in a baggie until it came up randomly and I was so impressed with it that I followed the link in the comment to this and now I think I'm this guy's biggest fan all of that just happened in the past 15 minutes, my brain turned around in my head listening, this is badass on every level
Billy's Friend: "Hey Billy, I bet you can't write a bluegrass metal song about drugs and have every old person in the crowd impressed and smiling ear to ear." Billy: " Bet."
@@mozisgrimm140 much of what we know as a particular genre of music is more universal than you would imagine. Punk, rock, country, blues, metal. It's all the same basic idea just at different beats or instruments. Go learn some old surf rock, dime the gain on your amp and you've got death metal.
@@mozisgrimm140 you are the one who was glad other people noticed. I'm just pointing out the fact that you are the dumbass for not realizing other people have long known this.
I used to smoke foils right off the dill pickle jar, fresh off the smoke jug.liquid fire and salt and aquarium pump, then to the dehydrator come out looking like paint chips
@Marvin Gardens nonsensical drivel with some sexism thrown in. Billy shreds. and since when is incorporating prog-rock chords in bluegrass waaaaay average? Marvin, you out of your damn mind!
For real man , dude’s a prodigy and if he stays active as long as the guys you mentioned he will for sure be named along them in the greatest players discussion
The clapton comparison is one I agree with. Maybe not as bluesy as clapton but the feel is there. Clapton is one of my favorite guitarist and billy is right up thete
@Billy Strings dude is amazing you replied! I am taking my daughter to her first concert and its going to be your show in Georgia! Is there any clips of you in your band in hs? I'd love to hear little strings
I second that! I am almost ashamed to say it, but in pure time I probably play longer than he does, but I guess he practiced a lot more! Like a looooot more.
Just found this about 4 days ago. I can't stop listening to it. Mesmerizing, soul wrenching. A new view each hearing. Forgiveness. Absolution. But full force. The comparison to some of the all time greats is apt. But he's managed to bring something all of his own to it. Those other boys know their business well. Hats off to you all. Beautiful mix. The bass is perfection. "But I'll try to keep living Through the nauseating gloom." If you only knew how true.
@@patrickhawkinson8399 hes got a 20 dollar virtual show at red rocks this Saturday. through nugs.tv I have seen some of the free ones before they are very high production quality. I bought my ticket today.
@@benwalter6984I detect no time change either, and if I had to guess, this guy is probably mistaking some syncopated parts as being in a different time
I followed it from there too this guy kicks ass. If you wanna hear some hardcore bluegrass thrash check out Hank 3. Particularly the straight to hell album.
This song makes me cry my eyes out. My wife and I were hooked on meth for two years. Fighting ourselves and each other, lost custody of our kids, seeing us become different people and talking to shadows on the walls…. I’ll never touch that evil stuff again. I’ve got my family back and been sober four years. (Tinfoil is used to smoke and cook meth, in case someone doesn’t understand)
Its also used to smoke heroin on, both heroin & meth r evil as hell & both come with more than their fair share of turmoil. A MASSIVE WELL DONE !!! 4 turning ur lives around & getting ya family bk together where u all belong. Any1 dat don't understand how hard dat is don't have da right to comment. Honestly u should b so proud of urselves. X
Billy is obviously a beast in terms of playing ability, but from a songwriting perspective, this is fucking genius! Dude is using phrygian concepts in a bluegrass song and it works amazingly well. Jesus Christ, what a fucking talent...
Its physical for me. Im 55 and just to keep up with a back rhythm makes my arm hurt. If I dig into the strings too much trying to be louder, ill gas before the end of Meet Me at the Creek
The talent of Billy and everyone else on stage is amazing. It is sad that most people don't understand how much talent they all have. Billy is amazing, but the others to just keep up with him makes them also amazing.
Me too!! I’m 61 and cut my teeth on Bluegrass. My dad was a huge fan. This, however, is something else! I think he might be in two modes at one point. It’s amazing. He’s a unicorn, like Chris Thile and a few other musicians. Once in a lifetime kind of folks and I feel blessed to be alive to experience their artistry.❤
This song hits me like a box of rocks. My parents were meth addicts when I was a child that ruined our lives. Consumed with homelessness and just down right uncertainty. Would we eat, get robbed, raped? My father is clean now but All I ever wanted was an apology from him but he won’t admit to any of it. He just ignores the subject. Now I suffer from depression and anxiety. So every lyric of this song hits so hard. I love it when a song can just reach into your soul and pull something out.
You should know you are not the only kid that went through a childhood hell....always remember you are surrounded by all kinds of folks that suffered and suffer like you did or currently do....don't ever stop trying to be as strong as you can...
I feel the exact same way. Both of my parents were meth addicts when i was a child. when i was in my early 20s and my mom had been clean i asked her for an apology for my childhood. She got really angry with me started cussing at me and told me to get out of her house. I think in her head she still justifies what happened because its technically a disease. Still doesn't feel right for me though.
@@mathieulagrandeur1006 Play 4:17 onwards with an electric guitar and this will be Metallica all over the place. It's no secret that Billy is a big metal head btw!
@@QueenofNonSequitur ive since read an interview he admitted using as early as the age 13 ..he said it was crazy times but does not regret it...did not comment about after those years as far as his usage ...not in that particular interview
That’s a BAD boy right there! Holy shit! The RU-vid algorithm did something right introducing all of us to him. If there is a better guitar player out there, I haven’t seen or heard him.
RU-vid must be promoting this dude hardcore right now, I never listened to bluegrass before discovering this dude a few days ago, completely impressed. Metalhead btw
we were lucky enough to be in the front row for this performance - insanely good across the board. Technical mastery with artistic excellence. I REALLY miss Music City Roots at the Factory - what a loss for the community!
I hope you were lucky enough to pick up his glasses that he seemed to lose somewhere in the first half of the song!!!!! You my Friend, can tell your Grandkids one day how good music still was as Billy re-erected Blue Grass!!! Oh sorry, I think this is called "DeadGrass" and I'm sure Jerry Garcia is looking down from Heaven and thinking, "My God. This is the real deal, finally"!!!!! Be Well Actionoriented!!!!!
Everyone who's seen Billy strings play guitar knows he's an insane Roy Clark level guitarist but that mandolin player rips too, it's all just ridiculous talent
this is my favorite song of his. probably because its not typical bluegrass. shows prowess and skill of writing, song structure, tempo changes, harmonies, melodies, and dowmright ripping. very rare to hear it all in one place usually getting one or two with the others but hes just one of those extraordinary men that just have it.
RU-vid: Hey wanna watch a guy, that looks 14 and is dressed like he's giving a rushed-to-finish science fair presentation, sing like a 40 year old and jam like he's been playing for a hundred years? Me: yes RU-vid:
The way Billy and his band mates each play with precision and tanasity , all hitting each note and making sure you enjoy every lick. I love the guys and will be making my way to see them up close and personal.
