Grateful Mahalo: Billy Kreutzmann’s 75th Birthday Pa’ina ft. Billy & the Kids w/ Billy Strings and special guests. Get tickets to continue watching: fans.live/mahalo
When Weir inevitably retires, it would be awesome for Billy Strings to take his place. Strings, Mayer, Otiel, Chimenti - "the road goes on forever, and the party never ends".
Fillmore, Winterland, Greek... miraculous times never again to be seen. Late '60's, early '70's, greatest Dead era ever; esp. that year with both Pig & Keith...
Personally, every time I hear Bill Kreutzmann play the drums the notion quickly comes to mind that the biggest reason I love Bill’s drumming is because his style is just so “Kreutzmann-y”… I mean seriously, his Kreutzmannship has always been on just a whole ‘nother level!
Who knew this would become two amazing nights of music at the Red Rocks. Anyone ever thought that would happen! Billy hope you had a birthday for the ages.
When Jerry died, you said you just wanted to find a way to keep playing, well man you did it!!! We’ve been together so many times and it does the heart good to see the vigor in you , happy bday in my home state!!!
@@bcpiet60 lol Made me smile :) "like wise would be a little grumpier "old" man" then" cracking shots off the Red Rocks of Morrison Colorado in 1979 - my mind was deconstructed and reconstructed " smiled again must have been at the same shows:) skipped 9th grade to hitch hike from the western slope for my first show at red rocks:) yes a true lifetime groove in my soul and one foot always tappiin :) Peace Brother. I really love this line-up/project. It's so beautiful and that lead singer (his band is great) just works. Of course Strings is such a boss. Kreuztman forever. And that sax. ripping.
@@uncledeadhead3674 I'm pretty sure this wasn't a Jerry Garcia impersonator /stunt double contest... but for the love of all things grateful... enjoy with a open mind and leave the hate behind. No one will ever sound or play like Jerry ever again but that's ok and is what makes him special.
I just heard him for the first time at least I know of like 24 hours ago just over 24 hours in 3:00 in the morning last night funny stuff but God music is music is love that's for sure God bless you
I think Bill's book was the best of all the members I've read so far. He dishes a little dirt just to spice it up and tells some good stories. The kidds are also one of the better post Jerry bands. Jam on Bill the drummer.
It's probably hard for Billy S. not to hit a few bluegrass notes, just out of pure habit. But he is hanging right in there ! So proud and happy for him😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
It’s incredible how reserved he played. It’s gotta be hard to switch from super fast picking to carefully laying out notes > building up with the band. His tone felt like Duane Allman playing lead with The Dead.
His genius on acoustic just doesn't transfer to the electric, yet anyway but he's so damn young and he's always focused on acoustic so there ya go...he has to know this as just look at the difference between Billy's solo in half step and then Tom...night and day...but I can't wait to hear him progress...acoustic and electric are two different beasts.
@@BrandonPetrucci He played electric previously - he was in metal and rock bands as a teenager. Also, when he goes "electric" on his acoustic during his more recent solo shows (which is to say with his band) he's used a ton of effects that he didn't use here. He's sounded better at those shows and they have more than a few times veered into full on tripped out Grateful Dead territory. But I 100% agree with you that his playing didn't fully translate during this first show. At least not during the portions we saw so far. I've watched a lot of Billy playing in the last couple years and although still certainly quite good, this was not his best stuff.
@@dumbstupid5065 If you ever watch videos where he's a guest, like he is in this series, he [almost] never tries to upstage the other players.... It's a respect thing..... The Sunday vid, where they were all sitting around jamming in the lounge, he did cut loose a little bit...... One of these days, i'd like to see him and the fellas tackle Voodoo Child....on electric, of course.... I think that's the Gold Standard of electric geeetar godliness.... There will never be another Hendrix or SRV, but methinks BMFS is very capable of being in the same orbit as them..... Tho, he'd have to substitute that LP with a Strat!
He reminds me of Richard Thompson in that you become so accustomed to his amazing picking on acoustic that you get floored on what a shredder he becomes whenever he does pick up an electric guitar
Billy is versatile, he can play anything, with anyone at anytime! I don't like him at all do I , lol. He is absolutely my favorite guitarist of all time. I'm 57. Experienced 💚
Love that B.S. on Les Paul and great vocals.Who is that great guitar/vocal w/ the shiny head and beard? Also Happy birthday 🎂 greatful drummer, and do you like doing Gibbs on NCIS? Healy thanks
Wow the break & jam at the end of Mississippi, damn y’all I can’t front, that was a tear-jerker for me. The front man absolutely RIPS this to shreds. Just DAMN. The sax really adds a lot too!!
NICE CALL!! I’ll be there 7/12/21 for my first Red Rocks show!!! First Billy show. Second time seeing Strings ta boot. This lineup is sick! It’ll be THE concert if Summer ‘21!!
Suddenly Billy is my best ….while looking for GD sound ..he will be the king of GD present generation..respect others who brought us here toDay …..52 years of enjoying ..life changing ..
Ok. I'm impressed. Was recommended to watch this stream from a friend but I'd never got into any post Dead or JGB but this is good. Except that it's interrupted so violently by loud advertisements. Billy! The man. Happy Belated Birthday & thanks for tunes. Nothing compares to Dead w/only Billy. The absolute 🐐🐐
I've always believed that if you took a knife to the Dead and began whittling, you'd be down to Jerry and Billy before it wasn't the Dead any more. Happy birthday Billy!!!
Interesting theory. I guess you need drums but I always thought it would have been Jerry and Phil. They were the backbone I felt. And neither being involved in the current incarnation is tough. Either way, this is a great show 👍🏼
I just fell into this. So happy. :) The first band I could not get away from. American Beauty. This is a great rendition and progression. I keep seeing Harris donations. People, i am a real person, what do we really want going forward? What makes sense? Its a simple question. Either way, love you.
Blow Out in the wind! Send these sounds out cross the oceans make the people feel again! God's creativity! Awsome Awsome Heaven declares His Glory may we too share the gifts and what God has given us all with the winds that like Thee Spirit goes where it will!!
Bruh. What kind of atmosphere is this? What well networked rich person arranged to have this at their house w 20 people onlooking?? What an incredible scene!
You all are KILLING IT ! First of all a big THANKS to Billy K for making this happen. Appears to be in someones backyard in HI and not gonna mention any names.
