Does anyone else my age (mid-50s) or older feel like the '70s and '80s were all a dream -- a long and very pleasant yet fading dream -- we dreamed a long time ago? ...
@@YoungBideo Well, too much something -- much of it consumed, in one form or another, at shows between 1978 and 1992 '-). But TV? Nah, rarely touch the stuff.
I've been following Billy Strings for a little bit, and know he's a great musician and acoustic player. But I have to say, I did not expect him to be able to show up with a Les Paul and shred Dead tunes like this. Really glad there's someone close to my age to continue carrying on the legacy.
Yep we are seeing someone very special coming into his own. Billy Strings is a very rare level of talent. And of course Bill K is a legend, and one of the greats to play drums, anywhere, anytime.
Thanks..i was gona say the same thing..and its not just this band or the sun shine..remember BK3..that wasnt that long ago and Bill played like id never heard him before in that band..allmost hard rock style..just rippin it up with Otiel and Scott Marauski from Max Creek!
That thunder song is fresh baked goodness!!!! Yes!! Happy birthday billy the thunder devil, you so rock. here's to a thousand more years of dead music in the air!......update,i will get this to a million views on my own if i must .
God, I love that sax! Adds a whole other dimension. This is so cool. Check out how much fun they are having. There seems to be an infinite amount of ways to interpret these songs. I Love it!
Bill is a master of his craft, truly one of greatest and most under appreciated rock drummers of all time. He kicked the tempo up at 7:15 just to see if the boys could keep up.
These fellas and Billy give me hope that there are players in this generation to carry on the art of jamming great music through raw talent like the players of the 60s and 70’s, instead of most of the canned bullshit you hear now days!
@@koryjensen8610 Sorry but as someone who actually saw the players of the 60's and 70's that's nonsense. I agree there are great players now but they not 'better' than their predessors at best they might be different but wouldn't even have a genre to ply their trade in were it not the earlier bands. So cut the ill-informed BS and just be glad that something which all musicians have done since the invention of the first instrument is now appreciated by the public at large.
@@avgoustinos_ms so you mean to tell me music is the only form of art (or any other activity) that doesn't get better as time goes on?! Get the fuck out of here. Every art form progresses with technology. Whether you like it or not is subjective. But the talent level right now far exceeds the 60s and 70s. And the talent level 50 years from now will far exceed present day. That's how it works...
Diversity, the sax player,( Jimenez) did they fall from the heavens)? No need for politicians when we have peacefulness amongst us!THANK you for sharing ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💓
I remember back in the old days when I used to see the Grateful Dead tour of the Midwest 73 and 74 around that era Billy held the band together all by himself, he didn’t need Mickey and neither did the band… Billy is one of the greatest rock drummers ever I saw them with Pig Pen and no Micky.. that was a nice time…
I didn't see them until 77 at Raceway Park Englishtown, NJ with New Riders and Marshall Tucker BUT I wish I would have seen Pigpen!!! seen them at least 115 times afterwards
They really got "something" here. Great sound. Great tempo. I'm blown away by the chemistry of Hamilton-Strings & Co. The sax really puts them over the top.
Wow... Catchin this lively music fish on the fly feels like MY birthday and I got the sweetest present! Thank you Bill, for a lifetime+ and a family full of beautiful adventures!!! You sound fantastic as always And ur beautiful happy smile just gave me joy! And Billy Strings good lord, o m g wow! Mind blown and thank you! All y'all play just beautiful together 💓 huge blessings and love to every one of u!
Happy birthday Billy. Thank you for sharing your days with us. So fresh, hot and tight that we want more...wait need!!! Please find some more dates. Kudos to everyone that helped put the weekend together and played. Can't wait for Sunday
Who knew who Billy strings was such a great electric player.? Reminds me of Bromberg, great flat picker and kicks ass on electric guitar too. Jorma and Jerry were also True acoustic/electric maestros. It’s two different worlds and few can pull it off.
I have watched all the videos of these shows a couple times and the Strings is an immense talent, as we all know, but that singer sounds and plays really good too. I don't see any comments directed his way.
There's another Billy Strings.. makes the guitar sing... Sooo sweet to hear these amazing loves.. so miss Santi.. see you in Mansfield MA 👁️💚👁️🎶🎤🎵🕺🪕🕺🎻🎻🎵💚🍀
I’ve been a Deadhead since 1968, I’ve seen them so many times in so many different forms, the Grateful Dead, to Jerry Garcia Band, Ratdog, Dead and Company and seen them covered, but this is freaking amazing, Billy Strings is Amazeballs!!!!!!!❤⭐️✨👏🎸💀⚡️✨💖🌹❤️
@@dmc549 It is just called "Thunder," it was written by Robert Hunter, I don't believe there is another officially recorded performance of it, at least I was unable to find it.
EVERYBODY'S MENTIONING THE SOUND GUY, BILLY ON DRUMS, HOW PROUD THEY ARE OF BILLY STRINGS, HOW MUCH THEY LOVE THE SAX. BUT, NO MENTION OF THE VIDEO GUY WHO DID A FANTASTIC JOB AND NO MENTION OF REED MATHIS' STRAW HAT WHICH ADDS DEPTH OF FIELD THANKS REED, TOM AND JAMES. ARON YOU NAILED EVERYTHING PERFECTLY - YOU USED THE CORRECT SOUNDS AT THE CORRECT TIMES.
wow sorry i missed it ,, was at your wedding with Eric Peterson crew from Oahu wonderful day and HAPPY BIRTHDAY Billy !!! certainly do miss those Palolo Jones daze ,,, PEACE
what about billy strings here did you even hear? he literally played a very minor rhythm for most of the song and his little solo was just fast and in the wrong key, it sounded terrible. let the kid go back to speed picking bluegrass crap and leave the dead alone. Jerry would throwup if he heard that kid play a solo.
This is the first and only time it's been played. Robert Hunter wrote the words. Billy wrote the music, and then they all learned how to play it together!!!!!!
@Dustin Miller this is the first time it's been played this way. BK3 with scott murawski did it different and back in 2010 or earlier. Same lyrics, just....different...both really good versions.
@@mikefourtwenty420 right on. I saw that on Billy’s page. The music is unreal. I can’t describe it but it just meanders on a crazy journey. I hope Billy or JRAD record it somehow. Too good to let it be lost.
I have been hoping & praying for some BillieStrings GratefulDead covers since I fisrst saw him playing "Dust In A Baggie" on his couch, way back when.... This is GOLD!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !!! Everyone!! Beautiful!!! THANK YOU !!!
If Dead and co. were slow in New Orleans, I must have picked up my dancing pace, because i didn't notice. I've seen a few clips where I noticed a slower pace, but who really cares when your heros step onto the stage.
