vanquish is an amazing game, but it's a very different game. it's pretty much a "shoot em up" done in 3d, many bigger enemies transform the game into a bullet hell... this instead is a very well done "narrative driven" game
Except it has better character depth and shooting the robots until they're reduced to scrap metal is ridiculously satisfying. Then again, I'm a sucker for when developers add some extra details like making enemies react more appropriately when they get shot.
I absolutely loathe Gears of War's dark ubermacho fantasy aesthetic. Much, much prefer Binary Domain's. Shows how much of a difference these things make despite similar gameplay.
It's not "Japanese Gears of War" as some people say. Gameplay-wise it's very similar (less tedious, though, and has more variety), but the characters, the story and the direction is on another level. I did not expect quality writing from it, but holy shit. Must-play for all sci-fi fans.
This game has so much franchise potential. Either move forward with the after credit scene and make a sequel with that or make a totally different sequel or make a prequel, show how Dan came to be known as the Survivor or make a Buddy Action shooter showing Dan and Big Boo in the special forces. I really want more of this. I hope Sega gives BD another chance.
delamovies lol theres is an awesome fps called neotokyo, its a better ghost in the shell game than it. Its basically a half life mod dedicated to ghost in the shell, now on steam its free and as standalone. There is people to play with in week end or every evenings.
delamovies lol, well its was a popular game while it was released as standalone now theres only one server used, its full week end and some evenings. same players allways, But still worth to play it, a very well designed game. It totally ghost in the shell
After Vanquish this is probably the second-best TPS ever made. It's just a great, fun game with amazing bosses, great gunplay, fun characters and a good story. I also felt that the motion-capture and sound-design was done really well, you can feel the weight of your character when you move around and it sounds super-heavy and authentic, it's great.
This is legit one of my favourite games. It's just a third person shooter but with fucking awesome robots and Dead Space shoot off limbs kind of elements and a great story and holy shit I love this game so much.
I think what really made this game great for me was that the upgrade system made your default rifle go from a standard TPS rifle into a force to be reckoned with. I remember how the shift from jumping from cover to cover to sprinting down hallways with the trigger held down made for exhilarating fun.
I just finished this game and damn, it really was a fun ride, surprisingly emotional at the end too for a FPS filled with buff dudes. Just forego the spoken dialog system all together and you're golden, please give this game a try.
0:15 - 0:40 Holy shit you "know" dont you. I mean, I knew you knew from your previous videos, but seeing all those modern masterpieces in a row, just fucking amazing man.
Hey, just returning to this video to thank you :) this was exactly up my alley, I've picked up another copy for a friend since it's like 3 dollars on Steam at the moment. Loved it.
I replayed thanks to your video I had forgotten a lot of the story and I had a blast with it! I also recognized the table dance where you meet Mifune the interior layout of the place is stardust from Kamurocho but that was all I recognized from the Yakuza Series
I'm really digging this video series. It's pointing me toward a lot of hidden gems that I missed out on, and series that I look forward to like the Yakuza series. Keep up the good work man this channel is awesome.
To Shill the game harder than the video, Binary Domain recently went on sale for Steam(PC) this week and will resume to be till August 22. The game is 80% off and is cheaper than a Kid's meal at a fast food restaurant. Drop the Big Mac you don't need and get yourself hours of entertainment instead! I have to thank you for this video, as despite my love for the Yakuza series this game flew completely under my radar. I just recently bought it and found myself having a good time despite my biases to most shooter games. I found it a little difficult to get into at first but once past the tutorial the game just picked up and before I knew it the game had me hooked. I'd say anyone who likes to play games for the boss battles, this game is definitely a good addition to their collection as it really emphasizes what it's like to be just a small squad fighting giant deadly robots. They're grand, tenacious and relentless but can be defeated if you yourself can be even more tenacious to the point that eventually you'll notice you're dodging missile barrages while knocking away armor piece by piece to get to the weakspots. It's that sense of scale as well as gameplay that really makes Binary Domain a keeper for me, with the characters and setting being what helps it come together for me. I was far more impressed than what my expectations held, so I have to say thanks to you HyperBit, for introducing a hidden gem that was certainly a pleasant experience. (PS. Here's a con to the game: small walking segments that you can't speed up sprinkled throughout the campaign. Not the worst offender but I'm getting really tired of seeing it.)
Really fun game indeed. The few little flaws here or there really don't change the fact that it's never been this fun to shoot robots, something I usually hate in games due to how usually unresponsive to damage these are made to be. The devs here really knew what it takes to make it feel satisfying with the many little debris and limbs flying off and all the potential reactons from being shot. Also the end when the game just decides to pile up plot twists after plot twists was amazing. It was so dumb I loved it.
In the original dubbing, the protag Dan Marshall is voiced by Akiyama's voice actor, Koichi Yamadera. His best friend Roy Boateng is voiced by Ryugi Goda's actor, Masami Iwasaki.
I really liked this game and was shocked that it didn't do better. Just as the Dev team made punching thugs so much fun in Yakuza, they made shooting robots so satisfying in Binary Domain.
I picked this game up on steam a while ago, and you nailed it with the intro. The problem I have with the game is the voice commands. It rarely picks up my voice appropriately. I get the sense that it's hella replayable, but when the game thinks I'm saying "shut up" instead of "Sorry" after friendly fire, it's pretty annoying. By the way, with voice enabled, you can apologize to your team to mitigate lost rep. The game really does play differently when you rely on voice compared to button commands, but I still have 6 phrases the game doesn't recognize. Fortunately, none of them are vital, and a couple would only piss off my squad.
I had a shit ton of fun playing this game back in 2012. It was a wholesome game even till this day I couldn't forget how the protagonist tried really hard to decide who to save in the end.
Really do like it when you do these videos. It helps me find some hidden gems that I may have missed out on during last gen. Keep up the good work. If I could make a request, could you do a video on two things in the future? The first is a game known as Trails in the Sky? It's a JRPG and I've heard nothing but praise about it, and it looks pretty cool as well. The Second is an anime called Welcome to the NHK. I think you might like it.
i remember there was a film with the same topic- japan creates a virus that changes bio mater into machine and special crew is send to investigate. i forget the title but i remember that i bought it
It's such an amazing underrated game. Got it on sale on Steam for 2 bucks the other day and I've been hooked ever since. The in game AI for the robots is quite clever and I like the gimmick of going for leg shots instead of headshots. The story and world/environment has been very interesting as well. I wish more people knew of this game. It's like the one game no one knows even exists :(
I'm barely 3 minutes into this video as of writing this, but as soon as you mentioned human-like robots coming from really isolationist Japan, I instantly thought of that anime movie VEXILLE; ever watch that before yourself, HyperBitHero? Seriously, this looks like a video game version of Vexille. (And that's not necessarily a bad thing.) Otherwise, glad I found your channel, looking forward to more!
Awesome game, I gotta play it again sometime, it was really awesome considering the devs had never made a game quite like this at the time, an underrated classic to be sure.
Thanks to this video I had the chance to pick up Binary Domain on the PC during this last Steam sale. Through 2 play sessions I beat the game at 11 hours including breaks to go walk the dogs and talk to family/alt tab to the internet. I enjoyed this game a lot and will agree that this game deserves a solid recommendation. There's just something about a Japanese take on western style games that really interests me. Maybe it's the ability to experience more japanese stories in games without having to learn some weird game that I'm not used to that's attached to it. But yea, this was fun as hell and I would never have tried it without this video. Thanks man. Funny enough, whenever I did see Binary Domain in the Steam Store it honestly made me think of Bionic Commando more than a standalone thing, not sure why. Mainly the cover art and the closeish name I suppose.
Nice video! I noticed that I actually have bought the game from some Steam sale. Will give it a try. Its a shame this isn't a proper campaign co-op, though. Keep up the good work!
I had no idea the team(s) behind Ryu ga Gotoku/Like a Dragon developed this game. I ended up watching a walkthrough of the game out of curiosity, and it really surprised me what the game contained. What I had heard way back then was rather unenthusiastic, notably toward the trust system that was, while unique, somewhat under-utilised & the gameplay was standard affair. But when watching the walkthrough, I ended up discovering an unusually cohesive mixture of cheese going up 'n' down on the mild-mature levels with a surprisingly well put-together story that I could take seriously. I'm also looking forward to laughing at peeps whom may be quick to write in their reviews for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare "Infinity Ward brings forth proper robot gore for the first time" when games such as Metal Arms: Glitch in the System, Binary Domain & Borderlands 2 already had robots hopping one legged going "Ow! Ow! Ow!!", dragging themselves to their guns, changing tactics or otherwise reacting inhumanely to dismemberment years before. It's definitely a rough gem, but still one with a shine that I should look into playing.
Sometimes I wonder if you guys are even getting my videos in your sub boxes, because I just put out a video the other day, and another a bit before that.
wouldn`t surprise me if that`s the case there has been a few times where RU-vid didn`t notify me that a few channels had uploaded i had to check them out to see new videos from them that RU-vid again didn`t notify me about. smh atleast this video popped up in my Sub Box.
I found the philosophical aspects of this game imensly profound. The source of the Survivors hatred of machines. How the scientist was able to put the spark of life into a machine. The story alone was amazing.
"Holler if you're dead!" - man, this game was awesome. I think I breezed through it in a weekend starting Friday evening and finishing it Sunday evening.
Back when this game came out i played it on the PC and found the story really interesting to the ending and overall the game is like the best Terminator game never made.
The voice recognition gets it wrong at least 20% of the time and the mouse acceleration is the strongest out of any game I've played and I still liked it. Good stuff.
got the game a few months ago for free. nothing ground breaking really, but it has its shinning moments, the core idea behind the story, the way robots break appart and your mates cheer for you, some of the interactivity with your chosen team etc. i think voice commands are broken on pc so i never bothered. a rent should be enough
Voice commands barely worked on Xbox 360 for me so I think, in general, it's pretty busted. Like Hyperbit said, you don't need to use it so it's mostly fine.
Ghost1170 I saw a stream of the PC version and the streamer couldn't get the voice commands to work for shit. I probably is just really bad at detecting voice commands from anyone that has the slightest accent or something.
sega was doing some event where they were giving a bunch of games for free, around valentines day i think. . it not all the time for free. look if they do it next year
Got this game for free when Sega was handing out bundle's of different games for free. This game was among them and it completely hooked me in without me having any idea of what it was (aside from being a 3rd person shooter). Such a great game and really wish another game; whether it be a sequel or similar type of game be made with the usual improvements that come with experience.
Amazing video Hero, and most of the games you reviewed is pretty good, and by the way is there a chance of Your Next Favorite - God Hand? it's really fun game, and i see you played it!
I bought this on PC a couple months ago and got bored within the first hour from the very standard third person shooter gameplay (I had this game confused with Vanquish when I bought it). I also had no idea that there were any squadmates other than Bo or that the game's scenery changed so much. The destructible body parts on robots were cool but I didn't really understand the appeal of this game until watching this, now I'll definitely go back and give it another shot, thanks!
Thank you Hero, recently Binary Domain became Backwards Compatible on Xbox and also got a FPS Boost for Series X/S users. Thankfully I nabbed a Series S not too long ago so I nabbed Binary Domain
