after many wandering days and nights at last I decided to get back in track and do some studying. suddenly I noticed I need a new notebook to give a fresh start. so I gathered some papers and tried to stretch, and I noticed I am lacking book binding skill. after watching bunch of tutorial now I am arguing with my brain which stretch will be strong and looks beautiful, Japanese / Belgian / Indian......... in the meanwhile "study " has left the chat.

Hey Nayanka, were you looking for the detailed measurements as well as materials? For materials, it is book board (or chip board), cloth for the spine, decorative paper for the cover and any kind of thread for sewing. The metal bars used are 1/4" and 1/2" spacers that you can find at craft shops or you can eyeball the spacing instead. Bone folder is helpful but you could get away with not using one.

Can you bind individual sheets or already bound pages within the cover?
@CrystalShaulis
@CrystalShaulis 8 лет назад
+chattaboxqueen You can do either. If you have text/writing already on the pages then make sure you have a wide enough margin for the spine area (this will be sewn through and therefore not visible). Traditionally, loose pages are used -- or folded sheets that are simply stacked on top of one another.

@CrystalShaulis
@CrystalShaulis 8 лет назад
Sure! It's starched book cloth for the spine, and an embossed black paper for the rest of the cover. You could also use only book cloth for the entire cover, which is really common and just as beautiful.

Actually glue has been around for 1,000s of years. The earliest glues were made from animal hides, like rabbit skin, and were heated and applied hot. This is still the way traditional gesso is made (heated animal skin glue+ marble dust for white color) for rigid painting supports.
