I thought I was the only one. I love watching her videos and once I even bought a little beginners kit for book binding just because she makes it look so easy. Haven't yet started. LOL
When my nephew was in elementary school, he made his own sketchbook with Japanese bookbinding! When he showed me, I thought about your old Japanese bookbinding video!
That brings some memories. 10 years ago, I think, I made a noble binded book for my boyfriend at the time. I'm an all diy things and found a tutorial on the internet. I love to make things. The book was full of images with love quotes that I found online. I'm proud of it. It had fake leather and cardboard cover, with noble binding. Sad thing is I do not have any pictures of it.
I've been too mentally and physically unwell to create anything recently but this was easy to follow and detailed enough for me to try, and I cannot express how grateful I am. My floor is covered in paper scraps and I have not been happier in years.
So pleased to see you've picked up on the Japanese bindings. I've seen your original video and have been searching through RU-vid for videos on stab binding but none of them are as clear as your one. So you can imagine how pleased I was to get the notification of this new video with 3 styles. Thank you!
Love how clear your tutorials are! I’ve really got into bookbinding this past year thanks to your videos and am enjoying having projects during lockdown
Has it really been that long since the first Japanese stab binding tutorial?! I remember when that was posted. I love all the patterns you included! Thanks for another fun bookbinding video ❤️ #notificationsquad
I actually used your old tutorial to make my best friend a sketchbook for her birthday! I was super excited when you posted this because I was thinking about making some small sketchbooks 🤩
This helped me a lot with my Book Arts class project! We had to do a journal going over all the techniques she covered, but she didn't have a recording for Japanese binding and I hadn't taken notes on the day of! Thanks for the save!
I found your early video on coptic bind when i was making a watercolour journal for my trip to Schwarzwald. Thank you. All these book binding videos are so useful! :)
This is amazing you really have to know exactly what your doing otherwise you'll mess up all the work you've put into it you show us well how to do it thank you
I came here from rewatching your 1st tutorial again since I need a Japanese bind I can do for a final. And I'm glad you made these, I think I'll do the hemp leaf one. So glad I bought some nice paper to make this. :)
Good afternoon 👋☺️ Sea Lemon you are the very best teacher of this book binding way to bind a book Thank You so much for this video stay safe and be careful 🙏✍️🖌️🎨💌🌹👋☺️ enjoy your day 👍
I just made a book that combined the Noble binding style and the Hemp Leaf binding style and it looks amazing!!! Thank you for your wonderful diagrams and instructions! :)
I've been meaning to re-visit Japanese binding for some time. Maybe this is a sign! 😁 I did my first a couple years ago, using a lotus flower pattern I came up with myself. It was pretty, but I wasn't as fond of the way the cover turned out, as I used a chunky fake leather.
If the front and back covers were different colors, it would have been easier to follow. It got a bit complicated, at least for me.

That's probably the only disadvantage of Japanese bookbinding, that you can't make it thick or can't use thick paper, cause it will be hard to turn the pages over. I once tried to make a writer's journal with this method and it was thicker, and the paper was 120gsm. So I had to make lines where to fold each paper. It was a bit better, but still not as good as I would want it to be 😀
What a lovely video thank you. I think I may have to go look up your other video with a thicker paper I want to make a rough watercolor book and there are no rough paper books out there, well not affordable ones I can’t pay $200 for one! Thank you for this excellent demonstration and I may just try one of these to dip my toe in the water! Thank you again please take care and be safe out there.
I noticed that in the trailer for Pokemon Legends Arceus, they used this style of bookbinding for the "storybook opening" clip. Now I'm thinking how cool it would be for someone to recreate it(hint, hint)
this is great but do you think you could do a version of this tutorial where is doesn't jump every time you do a stitch because I'm a little lost... I'd like to see the full action of the whole bind please :)
YES! I love ur binding videos! Edit: BTW all those cuts between you looping the thread and flipping the book makes it super hard to know if the book cover is facing up or down. I'd rather the video be lenghtier and actually understand what you're doing rather than having to pause and go back to guess what did u do in between the cuts but overall good video, tfs!
Totally understand. Most of the cuts were when the camera stopped focusing on the thread and blurred so I cut it (it has a hard time focusing on a moving thread). If I do another tutorial, I'll make the covers different to help know which is front/back.
@@SeaLemonDIY I understand, I've noticed a lot of people use the autofocus often but in this cases maybe setting it manually could be a better idea 🤗 mostly because the paper is not going to be moved that far away or that close to the camera, you're just flipping it around 😊
Quick question. It looks like the total width for the binding is 1 inch. Is it possible to do this in a 1/2 inch width, with the 1/4 inch holes included? Or is anything less than an inch total width not a good idea?
Hi, I just started watching your vlog today and it is amazing 😍😍😍😍!!!!Since I’m stationary addicted I was searching for pens and I saw your vlog , so I wanna ask you what is the best brand for stationary especially for pens???? Like umm what type of pen would you prefer or recommend to use for school ??
I was watching Kdrama and saw a bunch of books that where using this kind of binding, they all look so beautiful so they inspired me to make some. I was pplanning on watching your old videos on this topic to relearn it. Thank you for doing an updated version
These more detailed stab binding methods seem like they are meditative once you have the hang of it. They are pretty to watch come together. Thanks for the heads up on paper weight issues with this style.
Estoy estudiando todo sobre este hermoso arte que es la encuadernación y estas 3 que nos enseñas son hermosas... Gracias y a ponerme a hacerlas. Has sido de una gran ayuda en mi estudio. Te envío miles de energias positivas. Abracitos de colores desde Colombia!!! 🤗🤗🤗🇨🇴
Same here. Saw them in the Korean and other dramas. They always look neat and pretty. I was not sure where to begin. Thank you. This has inspired me to finally try some.❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for the amazing tutorial. I just almost finished the noble binding and then realised that I needed more thread because my book is thicker than yours... I'll try now with 7 times the length instead of 5
