Last round, my efforts to recreate the fabled McDonald's Szechuan Sauce were wild, flailing shots in the dark, pathetic and meager attempts to recreate a long-lost condiment out of scanty information and back-alley sources. But now, thanks to a very kind man named David Wasman, I have procured a sample of the genuine article. Follow along this week as we make a rendition of Szechuan Sauce near-identical to the Mulan-inspired goop from 1998. And make some wannabe Chicken McNuggets while we're at it.

Make a video on how you roll up you sleeves so perfectly.

This is achieved by folding the sleeves BEFORE you put the shirt on. You get a much more even roll. Start by taking the cuff, there will usually be a material lined inside the cuff, and fold the cuff up the sleeve so that the inside-lining material's edge is now at the bottom of the sleeve. Repeat rolling to the edge of the interior lining, 4-5 times. You'll have a very even roll on both sleeves and it won't feel snugged against your arms, unless you are ripping massive pythons, then you just need to buy a bigger shirt.

Here you go guys, I took the time to write down the steps he did. 1/2 cup each of: Water White Vinegar White Sugar And Soy Sauce 1 tsp. of Apple Cider Vinegar 1/2 tsp. of Sesame Seed Oil 1/4 tsp. each of: Garlic Powder Onion Powder and Ground ginger a little scoop of yeast extract (marmite) Some dextrose (Corn syrup) And a little ground black pepper After removing 1/4 cup of sauce add 2 tablespoons of corn starch and add it back to the main sauce. Do the same thing with a teaspoon of xanthan gum, and strain it while putting it back in. (slightly optional, just a thickener) Keep whisking on medium heat until it forms a sauce like goo. Strain cover and cool, and you are finished!

1/2 Cup Water 1/8 - 1/4 Cup White Vinegar (edited) 1/2 Cup White Sugar 1/2 Cup Soy Sauce (Kikoman) 1 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar 1/2 tsp Sesame Oil 1/4 tsp Garlic Powder 1/4 tsp Onion Powder 1/4 tsp Ground Ginger ~ 1 tsp Marmite ~ 2 tbsp Corn Syrup ~ 1/2 tbsp Black pepper 2 Tbsp Corn Starch 1 tsp Xanthan Gum

Instructions: 1) Pour all ingredients (besides Corn Starch and Xanthan Gum) into a bowl, mix, then pour into a pot 2) Pour a quarter cup of sauce into a small bowl, add two tablespoons of cornstarch, mix and add back to the main sauce. 3) Pour another quarter cup of sauce into the bowl and add a teaspoon of xantham gum, pour back through a strainer. 4) Whisk briskly over medium heat until it forms a sauce-like goo. 5) Strain, cover and cool.

@TJ Isn't it illegal to try and hide your recipes, though? In the western world you're required by law to let people know what's in your food. Or does that only apply to food manufacturers and not necessarily restaurants?

@@ThePowerofCutleries Recipes are not the same as ingredients lists. They are allowed to leave out some details too, such as just putting "spices" instead of an actual list of spices. Recipes can be copyright protected as long as they're not just a list of ingredients.

Kurata Saiaku you are right they cannot be registered as copyrighted works but they can be trade secrets like the coke recipe. Someone said trademarked which is wrong b/c not a source identifier and not trade dress or product packaging b/c it is the actual product, but it is a trade secret nicely within definition. Eddie yes and no. Nutritional values and known allergens (I believe I didn’t do health laws), but specific recipes can be withheld as trade secrets (like the coke recipe)

I wrote down the steps/ingredients so you guys don't have to -1/2 cup each water, white vinegar, white sugar and soy sauce -1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar -1/2 teaspoon of sesame seed oil -1/4 teaspoon each garlic powder, onion powder, ground ginger, marmite(yeast extract) -Dextrose (no amount specified but like 2 squeezes of about 1 second each) -Little bit of Black pepper (no amount specified) -Take out 1/4 cup sauce and add 2 tablespoons of corn starch and mix back in -Take out 1/4 cup sauce and add 1 teaspoon xanthum gum and mix back in (through sieve to get out lumps) -Heat until it becomes sauce like consistency and sieve again to get lumps out, cover and allow to cool

I think everyone is going to be making this stuff at home since McDonalds only gave 20 fuckin packs to each restaurant that was giving out sauce today. Haha Neonal, I know, rIght... Well +Daniel Sadjadi, Szechuan is a type of pepper, but it's spelled a different way in China and it's like a peppercorn but kind of spicier. so don't call people idiots, because the pepper is used in the sauce and/or cooking. Teriyaki also has a way to be made, not just a bunch of processed ingredients. It's usually a fruit or sugar and soy sauce with asian spices. Just because you may eat takeout doesn't mean you're an expert.
