Oooh, Wilful Princess and the Piebald Prince is such a good rec! I've been meaning to try it to try to motivate myself to get back into the Realm of the Elderlings (the combo of female protagonist I really dislike, the uncharismatic pirate captain and the creepy religious kid have killed my motivation to read Realm of the Elderlings and I have been stuck mid Ship of Magic for a few years now 😅)

For multi-POV, most of the Throne of Glass series meets HM. Book 6 does not, and I can't remember about book 2, but the rest do, even book 1 (only a couple scenes from the POVs 4-5, but still counts). For Orcs/Trolls, Danielle Jensen's Malediction Trilogy is about trolls. The female MC is human, but the love interest is a troll and he gets some POV as well. I think that should count for hard mode.

Here are some recs you asked for! Romantasy hard mode: Payback's a Witch, This Gilded Abyss, 90s Kids Multi-POV: I'm reading Dracula and I think it's >5 POVs? We'll see. Published in the 90s: Something from Terry Pratchett or Neil Gaiman (I have Good Omens on my list) Orcs/Trolls/Goblins: Legends & Lattes, Orconomics I'm struggling most with the Dreams and Self-Pub/Indy Press square, on hard mode specifically! But I so appreciate you pointing out Wheel of Time has Bards because I will be reading book 7 for that sometime this year.

If you wanted more books with three words that start with the same letter I’ve got a few. You could read The Twisted Tree by Rachel Burge, The Turn of The Screw by Henry James, or The Third Twin by Ken Follett. I hope this is helpful to have more choices for your prompt! Also if you want a book for the prompt under the surface I would suggest reading the Light at the Bottom of the world by London Shah. It’s a sci-fi about people that live under water. It’s a super good not talked about debut novel duology! I highly recommend it! For heists you should read the gilded wolves, or among thieves. I’ve read both of these and loved them! They both feature heists and are so good!

I'm still writing out my reviews for 2023. I did an all SPFBO card with 6 SPFBO9 entries and an unofficial semi, six semi finalists from various vears and nominated a 'finalist', repeated the process w/10 finalists (final 3 were SPFBO related). Learned a lot about your job as a judge doing it. Bards: Tufa Series by Alex Bledsoe (Each book stands alone and I actually recommend book 2 as a start) also HM Rural. Bardic Voices By Mercedes Lackey HM, also 90s.

I think that a new release A Short Walk Through a Wide World should also work for the Alliterative HM square 🤔 I also think that this year's bingo board is both very fun (feels very fresh and exciting!) but also very hard. The squares that I am struggling the most are (HM) - Bards, Published in the 90s (I would have a lot of middle grade recs, but I read all of them) and Eldrich square, for which I need a non-horror, non scary rec as I stay far away from the scary stuff 😂 Also, I _would_ say Space Opera would be a hard sqaure for me, as someone who doesn't really read scifi, but I decided to pick up Space Opera by Catherynne M. Valente and just hope that it _has_ to fit the prompt, with such a name 😂

My recommendation for Romantasy (hard mode) would be A Taste of Gold and Iron! It moves a little slowly for my tastes but the characters were really wonderful, the love story was wholesome, and its lower spice than a lot of romantasy books. Good luck!

A Sweet Sting of Salt is my pick for HM on the alliteration square. I put an extra "no new books" restriction on my HM board this year where I can only choose books that I owned/ordered/placed on hold at the library before checking the prompts Monday morning, and I just squeaked that one in by getting it from Aardvark before going to Reddit. Here are some books I wrote down as options for my card. 🥂 Multiple POVs hard mode - books in Faithful and the Fallen series by John Gwynne should all count. I've read the 1st, checked the chapter headers for book 2 and it definetly fits so I assume the rest do as well. Bard hard mode - Bloody Rose by Nicholas Eames was recommended on reddit and probably the one I'm gonna use. Orcs, Trolls, & Goblins, Oh My! hard mode - some already mentioned in the comments so I have only The Unspoken Name by A.K. Larkwood left to offer here. Books pub in 90s hard mode - it was a struggle but I have a few: Good Omens by Gaiman and Pratchet, Green Mile by Stephen King, Theif by Megan Whalen Turner, Green Rider by Kristen Britain and Curse of the Mistwraith by Janny Wurts. Romantasy hard mode - Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell(sci-fi), The Red Scholar's Wake by Aliette de Bodard(sci-fi), Empire of Sand by Tasha Suri(fanro), Faebound by Saara El-Arifi(fanro), The Deep by Rivers Solomon(has a romance at the center of the plot, also a novella) and Payback's a Witch by Lana Harper(probably the closest to the romantasy category).

Sorry to reply again, but I was just watching @GraceDionneReads March wrap-up and saw her SPFBO reads and she mentioned a romantasy/cozy fantasy with MM relationship. It's the finalist A Rival Most Vial by R.K. Ashwick and since you are a judge you're gonna be reading it anyway so I thought I'd just remind you. I'm sorry if you already knew/remembered in the meantime. ☺ @@CoverswithCassidy

I also nejoy this readathon, although I never post it. It is fun to try new things and to see what others plan to read and seeing all the recommendations. As for Bards: Juliet Marillier also has a series called The warrior bards, starting with The harp of kings. Might be worth looking into, as you liked one of her other books?

For called a bard there's "The River Enchanted"/"A Fire Endless" and there's "Song for the Basilisk" by Patricia McKillip which also is a magical creature in the title if someone is looking for that. "Legends and Lattes"/"Bookshops and Bonedust" take care of the orc as a main character issue.

The Part About the Dragon is Mostly True by Sean Gibson follows Helloise the Bard. It's a comical indie fantasy, it's fast-paced, fun, and the audiobook is 10/10.

Six of crows, way of the kings, and the wheel of time series all have five or more POV’s. Also a main character with a disability is in a curse so dark and lonely. The main character has a disability.
