AC: Valhalla on IGN is an 8 / 10. Biomutant is 6. Valhalla didn't even work when it was released! Part of the AAA standard is definitely getting inflated review numbers. Biomutant deserves probably a 7 (assuming the scale actually allows for games to be rated below a 5).

One of the main problems with modern reviewers and gamers is that they expect the games industry to grow with them. When they were young they played and loved games like this but now it isn’t good enough or hard core enough. Not every game needs to be a hardcore geared toward adults experience. I have three kids and I love when games like this come out that I can play with them and give them the experience of playing a game targeted at their age. Good discussion guys.

Does this game feel like it needs more enemies In the world? Like if u compare it to assassins creed Valhalla or fallout ? Or does it really feel like roaming an empty world with encounters feeling far and few in between? Also are the 4 world bossess the only ones you fight. Or are there mini bossess along the way ? Thanks for any replies.

@@kaycee310toysandcollectibl9 minib boss yes and no the world is not empty. The game starts slow, and once you learn the wung-fu and get some abilities the game combat is lots of fun.

Exactly. he is a shill and he contradicts himself a lot. He even enjoy playing looter shooters like destiny 2 but proceeds to shit on biomutant. Even after he completely praised cyberpunk but then it turned out to be a flop. But almost no one bats a shit and just let it aside under the bus. Immediately unsubbed him after he reviewed biomutant.

Honestly it's just the price point that's holding myself back from giving it a go. Most AA games are priced at 30-40ish asking 60 is asking for the harsher criticism from the community.

yea if you can get it somewhere official for lower price (30-40€), I think you'll enjoy it if you like looting, crafting and exploring. Also the style is very unique and I like it. For 60€ its also not bad if you will explore most stuff and do most of the side quests.

@@azzazzin718gaming4 I like the game, but the size of the studio doesn't have much to do with how much it should cost. They also did outsource a lot too just FYI. The price should always reflect the quality and size of the game, if they improve a lot, then it will be worth it.

I like this game so much. 8 hours in and I find the very relaxing gameplay loop super enjoyable. Also the crafting is completely bonkers.

You mention skill up and his review, i want to point out a specify review that he did in 2019 Greedfall. In the review he made the statement that he believed that reviews were giving the game higher scores then it deserved because they had already staked that this game was going to be good. It showed that while he tends to going with the major consumer crowd on a product, he can't see how what he didn't like might not be worse then what others liked in a product.

Haha, tho I like him, I've stopped putting too much trust into his opinions since his The Outer World review. It felt like he had jumped on the "Obsidian better than Bethesda" bandwagon and basically praised the game automatically. I was excited to jump into it and it turned out to be one of the least fun Ive ever had in a game and I just don't understand how he could not be more critical of it.

@@venator9536 😅 Lol, Was it because of the boring combat later in the game? That was one of my problems with it, Later on in the game I'd just walk up to mini bosses point my heavy machine gun at it and unload till it dies like 10 seconds later or less. My other problem being I had a bad habit of taking the long approach to quests and trying to peacefully talk my way out of every situation leading to a much longer quest when I fully knew I could complete the quest much sooner with the help of the good old heavy machine gun 😅 . Their were times during early and mid game that reminded me more of Bioshock that I enjoyed, And the multiple quest paths/choices was cool, But generally for some reason, The game had a bit of a "flat" feeling to it.

@@ionseven Him and Yong are a little bit too blind to Ubisoft's behaviour in general. It's almost as though they enjoy being flown around the place to Ubisoft launch events and being pandered to and treated like they're important, to the point where they can barely begin to question or criticise anything they do. Skillup is also the same when it comes to Bungie. His review of D2: Beyond Light was cognitive dissonance at it's finest.

I think Skillup’s review is pretty good. He finished the game, he didn’t like the game, and he articulates well on which part of the game he doesn’t like. Nothing wrong with having different taste in games.

And that's what reviews are for. If I judge that the criticisms are valid but they're not bothering me, I might give it a try. Like the empty open world. It's a valid point but I don't mind. But it's still to expensive for a kiddy action game.

The biggest issue is how important Intelligence is as a stat. Dodging, Psi powers and Mutations all draw from the Ki pool and this pool is increased only through Intelligence.

I just got my copy for the base PS4and my biggest issue is the technical problems. It's so freaking blurry and stutters. It doesn't even look HD. Anyone else have this problem and do you know how to fix it on base PS4?

Biomutant is very fun! Its not perfect but its really fun. Ive spent 25hrs and my main mission to do now is still to take over rival's outposts (the mission after you pick either the Jagni or the Myriads and its literally 2 missions after the Tutorial dungeon). There's a lot of stuff to explore and loot. Combat feels great if you cycle between ranged and melee. It gets tedious if you stick to melee only or ranged only builds. The sad thing is (and I get why) you can't summon the Mech anywhere except in certain area (the same goes for the Jetski); you have no idea how heartbroken I was when I can't summon the Mekton. Also, people complaining about the price is kinda silly imo. I mean its just 60$! Do you know how much the game costs in my local currency? 87$! And imo the devs deserve it since (if it wasnt clear enough) I really really enjoy this game.

These are the same Just Cause guys and not to have the ability to summon ANY vehicle anywhere the player wants is just stupid design descision. Hopefully that should change with patches.

I feel like the problem is that reviewers approach every game as if it is a full fledge AAA title, where they should actually adjust the scope to factor in that not all are. As a AA it's a solid 8, not quite the achievement of something like Hellblade, but for what it is it is great. They also review everything and if it is geared for adults only without the context of younger gamers. It reminds me of some of the games I played and loved as a kid, so for me it's a nostalgia trip that my kids can also enjoy. I do think the price tag is high, but you can always wait for a sale.

I was expecting this to be a next-gen 90's animal mascot game made by a small dev team. I can't place my finger on why, exactly, but I was getting harsh Spyro vibes from the previews. Whereas we had almost everyone hyping it up to be a big budget cross between Nier: Automata and Breath of the Wild, with a bit of Ratchet and Clank thrown in for flavour. Oftentimes, whenever I see a game get so many mixed reviews, it's usually because they let their expectations run rampant and need to compensate.

Every game you mentioned is accurate Im 24 hours in. Add in Batman Arkam combat and you perfectly summarize the feel of the game. Its really good. Narrator voice is bad..change it or turn it off and its 10/10

Even though I am not an open-world gamer, I have been enjoying BioMutant, the reason being cause it's smaller, not so overwhelming as something like Skyrim or The Witcher.

When an open world action rpg's biggest flaw is the lazy puzzles and annoying narrator, but virtually everything else is great, it does make me wonder if the critics weigh the individual components of a game higher than the big picture. Like because they don't like individual components of a game they automatically knock a point off kind of thing, instead of just judging the overall experience.

I'm not saying that the people who played less have more weight, just that you'd not want to skew either way if you're goin to point to the reviews as any sense of perceived quality of product

Reviews should be by people who bought and played the game, playtime is not the most important thing. If many bought the game, but didn't like it enough to play beyond 2 hrs, doesn't mean their concerns and criticisms are invalid.

@@SmootherThanSilk except that playtime can be important for some games that take quite some time to really open up. Take persona 5 for example, the entire first level at the castle can be summarized as a tutorial before the game provides you all of the mechanics. Its not fair for a person to give it very low scores just because he did not play substantial amount of time before reaching to the later levels.

@@lapsedilationdrive3943 I agree to a point. I disliked FF13 coz of the "it takes 25+ hours for it to be open world" coz at that point I'm already tired of the slog. Biomutant though has just a really slow and boring intro. All the exploration and mechanics open up after the childhood memory part (1-2 hours). Also, the "negative" labels on steam reviews are quite deceptive--as in the people who have that usually have something good to say but are weighed down by some negative aspects but not overall negative outlook on the game. And until you actually read WHY it's negative, people on first glance decide that "hey this game has so many negative reviews" PERIOD.

I think it is a perfect open world. I'm like 8 hours in and i see anything every 50-100 meters:p Exploring reeeaaaly rewards with amazing loot. That is all i'm looking for in a game tagged with open world:) I think people should look at this like an nintendo game, and less like a triple A openworld pc game from a major studio. Though this all is my opinion (A)

What really annoys me about the risk comment from that 1/5 review is that they're implying that Ubisoft are risk takers and that's just patently fucking false these days. You could pluck any two games out of their dev cycle for the last 10 years and chances are that, on paper, you wouldn't be able to tell them apart. What a shit take that guy has.

I just wanted a decent story and exploration. Instead it was nonsensical and the exploration was just open loot boxes. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't good either. Nobody will talk about Biomutant 1 year from now, imo.

Bio-Mutant is exactly what I thought it would be, just a fun AA experience. Not perfect, but it has its charms, and it's a breath of fresh air, after so many disappointing AAA releases.

As an Australian I can say with confidence that Australian RU-vidrs go where the money is and that is Ubisoft. No other publisher has any presence down here so they get all of the coverage. Any develeper/publisher other than US will get bad press

I stopped playing AC Valhalla, dunno just felt boring as hell to me but could be because i just finished odyssey and is burnt out, but let me tell you, you wont regret buying Biomutant at $60. After playing Biomutant your gonna feel like AC Valhalla should have only been $30.

Yes, the "dialogs" are unnecessary longer because of that. They could easily fix it by keeping the narration WHILE the rodents are talking. It's not like we need to hear this starwars-alien-like gibberish.

Set the narration rate at 50 in audio option, and set the language in JAPANESE...change the game mood.

Many reviews said crafting is useless. First weapon is enough to finish game on hard? 🤔 Looks like it needed another 6 to 12 months before release.

I think the problem is the lack of demos. Before we i used to get a demo first then decide to buy the game now a days i got to wait for reviewers and lets play section to see if i would like the game. For example i do like the anthem when playing solo but i hate it when you're playing with other people i got all that from a demo. The only reason i haven't bought it yet is because it is always online and there's reassurance that i will still be able to play when they decide to shut off the servers thats the only reason i decided not to buy that game

I feel like Steam reviews are more accurate than Metacritic or IGN. I always go to Steam reviews to know the full state of a game.

It does make you wonder about the legitimacy of main stream reviewers when they all hop on criticising games like this, which may be valid. But they gloss over Ubisoft/Activision games that churn out the same game every year.

The skillup review really passed me off..... I was so excited for this game for a while. Not that I had some extreme expectations as I'm well aware it was made by only freaking 25 people and I saw his review post and almost every review of his has lead me in a good way but after I watched most of his I had to turn it off and just wait to play myself but now just can't get the negative taste out of my mouth it sucks. I absolutely love the game but absolutely hate the gibberish lol butnplay yourself because the game is definitely good, creative, unique, and just fun to play.

Love the game too! Skillup really has a distaste for games that a bit “younger” in style, I don’t always agree with him. He speaks in absolutes a lot which I think is unfortunate when stating subjective things at times.

Loving the game. Lost 35 hours to it already. It has secrets looting and plenty of different styles of gameplay. The reviews are bogus no one can tell you your taste in games. I loved Zelda's big empty space and weather this game as taken a lot of their gameplay loop and added a fun combat system to the game. The ememys aren't on the scale of Zelda but it's not far off.

I’m only about 5 hours in but it feels like a 7-7.5 game to me. But I’d play a new 7/10 IP over a 8/10 copy and paste Assassins Creed any day. And I like AC some. Days Gone was one of my fav games last gen. I liked it more than Horizon Zero Dawn and tlou2.

Having so much fun with Biomutant. Combat is fast and fun, but a bit floaty/weightless and the weapon/hit sounds could be a bit more beefy. The world absolutely open ended, you can go anywhere at any time. And is so stuffed full of places to explore, things to find and mini boss encounters. Crafting is absolutely remarkable, can't think of any other game that has done crafting with this amount of freedom. Dialogue is fine, I see why it can aggravate some. but all of it is skippable, you can skip the jobberish lines and only listen to the narrator. Love it, 7/10 but still GOTY.

It’s not a “bad” game, per se. It just feels unfinished. I’ll go back in 6 months when the patches/updates finish it.

The default Normal difficulty is way too easy & the Hard freaks it up too much, which exposes the AI as being pretty bad. Besides that & since I'm only nearly 20 hours into its good fun (I love its nooks & crannies within Exploration), I still think it's somewhere between 7.75/10 & 8.25/10 for a bigger-AA game.

Loving this game and enjoying it with my son. I think Skillup really has trouble grasping games for a younger audience, love his channel but don’t always see eye to eye, especially on games that I play with the kiddo.

And yet he praised immortals fenyx rising like crazy. A game that has childish humour and is narrated by a serious greek god and another infamous one who constantly makes cringy jokes almost everytime the protagonist finished doing side quests or puzzles. "Still better than visiting the dentist" - Fenyx,2020 How is this game not supposed to be targeted towards a younger audience? Even the rpg mechanics are simpler and more straightforward than what we have seen in biomutant.

@@lapsedilationdrive3943 have a kid, the humor of that game is lost on children. My son still likes that game, but Biomutant, Minecraft Dungeons and Pokémon Sword/Shield he bashed, yet those are my son’s favorite games. This isn’t personal, it’s just 3/4 of the kids games he’s reviewed he’s had problems with while myself and kids enjoy them. No need to white knight for Skillup, I’m just pointing out a reviewer can’t review for every audience. He’s not a parent, he’s not a child, he likes certain things and doesn’t others. He didn’t like a lot of kids games in my experience. I enjoy biomutant and so does my son. For the reasons above it does seem he has a problem with games with simpler mechanics at times, while FR seemed to be something where the humor jived with him. People are allowed to like Biomutant, even if Skillup doesn’t.

I'm loving this game, I'm 90 hours in, almost finished the main quest. Hopefully people won't listen to reviews and give this game a chance.

I’m actually enjoying the damn game. Especially now I think I understand the craftsmanship BG a bit more. It’s too much exposition and dialogue. The melee needs to be buffed and the turns needs to be nerfed a bit IMO. The game is not the greatest game in the world, but it’s not as bad as these reviewers make it seem to be. These reviewers seem so angry at the game when they review it. But ultimately, they kinda like it and they hate themselves for kinda liking it so they give it 6/10. Lol. This game isn’t the greatest. Probably wait for a sale. They have a lot of good ideas. So hopefully they’ll get a sequel and polish the next one game.

Skillups review was unfair, there is much more too the game than 16 hours. ACG did a fair review on the game IMO.

seemed like he was just rushing to get a review out in all honesty. Noticed alot of the negative steam reviews seem to be from people that did not invest alot of time in the game

@@zomgpie2 Right, and if I am honest I can say if you don't explore and do the side contest and interact with the NPC to get extra missions then I could see how it could seem too be a bad game but I keep on crafting and really learned the wungfu and the game got so much better for me.

every game will divide people. To some survival games are the best of the best, while others would rather have pineapple in their ass. To each their own. But thats why if some reviewer says "I hated this thing in the game" does not mean its bad, it just means that specific reviewer might not like that mechanic of the game, does it mean that you should also hate it even if you are thinking "oh wow, I actually like this kind of things in games" And the final nail is the goddam score. Oh lord how I hate how people will fixate on the score and will either love or hate the game based on some random score. If I would buy and play every 9/10 game I would have gotten huge pile of shit to play and miss out on many fun simples that were not deemed worthy to get score better than 8

I am pretty sure most who do not like it were expecting what you state they were or maybe we're lol. Doubt anyone was expecting a fame on the level of a Unisoft open world game more so because like you say it's....a AA game.not a AAA game. People like different things and I thought it was shit....I had low expectations and they were not met lol I got a refund thank god because this is worth 19.99 max

I also enjoyed it and played through it twice it was a different take on far cry and wasn’t as boring as Valhalla I mean it was a 40 hour game stretched out to 60+ hours that by the time I was done I just wanted to finish the story and not finish all the side quests because I got bored playing it all like the last 3 they made

I do like this game. Can't say I love it, but I do like it, and I'm not what one might call casual as far as RPGs go (I think I've over played 70% of action RPGs available on PC , touched base with 20% of them and there's probably 10% or so that I never felt inspired to touch). So what skill up did with that "review" is unprofessional to the point where it feels shady, like he got paid to bash on this game.

it had a wonderful world to explore the graphics and design were nice but for me, it felt broken up and the narration, although done very well, was not my cup of tea as it seemed to be aimed at kindergarten kids, I couldn't be bothered to keep playing. are you ever going to cover subnautica below zero?

i enjoyed the game. its not the best of course, graphics could be a bit better, a bit more stuff in the world (exploring doesnt benefit much) but it was very fun, charming and i had fun

People that review games are always terrible at gaming, just like RU-vid channels that build gaming rigs. Their world revolves around gaming, but they can't play a game to save their life, so I dont put any weight in critic reviews. Critics use a few big words to make it seen like they know what they're talking about, but theyre as much of a gamer as a person playing clash of clans on their phone.

Bad reviews get more clicks than good reviews. so reviewers who do reviewing as a job gave it a bad review because they need the money, and reviewers who review games for the fun of it seemed to love the game. It all comes down to money. Skillup needs the money so he said bad game dont play was his review..........

Biomutant is an EXTREMELY POOR game. Fuck tons of repeating buildings hallways and other areas. That make you 2nd guess if you've already been here. The puzzles, IF you can even call them that, are an absolute fucking joke except for one. And the only reason I say except for one is because there is a puzzle in the game where they didn't finish making it so I had to pull out a piece of paper, a pen, and get to guessing. The enemy variety Is just not there in some places. Talking to you biohazard zone... This game waists as much potential as RE8, which is dissapointing.

Skill Up reviews are worthless. He has awful taste and gives free passes to games he likes and is extra harsh on games he dislikes. Just look at his Cyberpunk review. His review of that game could not be more objectively bad if it tried. Even YongYea had the sense to delete his pathetic pile of pandering posing as a review.

Skill Up is to me now what Total Biscuit became (rest in peace). I respected the integrity of his judgment and just knew that if he liked a game I wouldn't like it, and if he didn't like a game I probably would.
