I always interpreted 'Love is not canon' as 'Love was never a part of the code the Great Beings programmed into the Matoran', and it has only started to manifest because the Matoran were made sentient, instead of just drones
i liked the idea of "no family, no love" in the original bonkle story, as it was interesting and fresh at the time, and i like your twist on that just as much. Your project is special.
@@LittleBrotherhoodStudios I kinda thought of Mata Nui was more of Archangel like Michael and Makuta Teridax is Lucifer. And the Great Beings who helped created them or more specifically their bodies are other Angels, and that there is a True God of the Bionicles Universe and that he happens to be the Our Jewish Christian GOD or LORD.
The Agori and Glatorian on Bara Magna were pretty quietly implied to be largely organic beings if I remember right, so they'd be analogous to us as far as any flavor of reproduction goes. I know the sets don't reflect that look very well, but such were the limitations of relatively inexpensive toy design ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Matoran and their Toa and Turaga relatives were technorganic beings that were created inside the Great Spirit Robot's body rather than "born". They did have some muscle, lung and likely vascular tissue and could consume food for nutrition, but everything else was mechanical. Once again, not reflected in the sets all that well.
As a Christian and Bionicle fan as well, this is absolutely heartwarming. I always thought personally that Lhikan and Vakama would have been siblings, so seeing this be brought up was truly intriguing! Merry Christmas and keep up the amazing work
I gotta respect your choice to make romance and family canon, though I gotta wonder the reasoning behind making an entire video behind it. Like, this is information that could be diagetically inserted into the story, like we could have had a scene where Whenua went "How's my favorite brother doing?" and Onewa would have sighed and went "You don't have many other options," leading one of the Toa to wonder what Vakama did to piss off Whenua, only for Vakama to reply "Oh, no, those two are ACTUALLY brothers. Descended from Po-Matoran" and everyone would've been like "Alright."
Thanks man. You Definitely make a fair point there. The story itself introduces family and romance in a very subtle smooth way without seeming forced. Some people have asked my position on this...and this video is my answer. Do you have to see this video to understand Project Toa when it comes out? Absolutely not...but we are more or less showing people our stance on these issues...to alleviate their Shock later. And because I thought some people would appreciate it.

Love and God bless from England. I can tell you're a very kind and caring person, for your friends and us fans. Never let any trolls and haters ever get to you and keep going at Project Mata Nui. Your passion for your work truly astounds me, from the bottom of my heart. Stay safe, Merry Christmas and a happy New Year
I’m not a religious person due to my experiences but I appreciate people like you standing up for yourself and expressing your own faith. As for another thing I think the dynamic of makuta and Mata nui being more spiritual brother make the dynamic better imo, kinda like yin and Yang in a way. One cannot live without the other. Light cannot be without darkness and darkness cannot be without light.
3:16 although in the original story, makuta told us that he is mata nui's brother, it would be best to describe him as a virus slowly killing the protector
Speaking also as both a Christian and Bionicle fan who has been very much inspired by your work in the past, I want to say that even though we may have some disagreements regarding interpretations of Biblical theology on some issues, I do deeply respect the amount of work and passion you have poured into your projects. I hope it all goes well for you in the future and have a merry Christmas and happy new year also. P.S. Glad we all seem to agree that love is, in fact, canon.
I don't know how receptive you are to a conversation on this but in this instance it feels as though you have limited your ability to engage with a story that has elements outside of your own worldview. Christianity and catholicism are both heavily present in much of Europe and the Americas, so it's unsurprising that a large number of writers and artists in those areas take heavy inspiration from it. However it may be worth considering that inspiration doesn't necessarily mean direct equation, and trying to map what in your case is a very specific POV onto a story that doesn't directly share it, it may have lead you to miss a chance to see the world through different eyes. Within the original story, establishing Mata Nui as a diety and Makuta as an evil rebelious figure is an obvious read, but by stopping there I feel you may have ignored some of the nuance within their relationship. In the earlier lore Makuta is portrayed as Mata Nui's brother. From my memory, he had a deep and sincere desire to protect Mata Nui by keeping him asleep. If we are keeping with the theme of family, this is an incredible point to explore. When is family harmful? Can family members be abusive under the guise of protection? By trying to project a very narrow understanding of love onto a story that (through the statements of the creator) does not contain love in that form, it feels again like you've missed a chance to explore something that does not directly overlap with your own worldview. In your own words, to apply your own values you have had to directly contradict the intent of the writer to make it fit. There is so much here that I would like to go into but trying to fit it all into one comment would take too much time and I am unsure it would be worth it. Your art is your art, and it is important that all people are able to explore themselves through art as freely as they can. I suppose the least I can say is that when engaging with art made by others, it's important to consider world views beyond your own, as trying to map your already-held beliefs to something made by someone in a very different situation can lead you to miss the nuance of their creations.
It’s things like this about your production that have kept me waiting in anticipation for so many years. I’m always supporting, thank you for helping keep the legend alive :)
I love that you compare the characters who are in love, to the book of genesis (of how God created one male and one female). Bionicle doesn’t really show off love nor family that much, I agree with you there (I especially love the duo of Matau & Nokama 💚💙). Those moves look great, also isn’t that red Ta-Matoran with the silver hat from another channel?? I’ve forgotten his name but he’s the insane person?
How do you have the Bionicles get married? In me and my little brother's game we have the husband and wife swap a limb piece in order to say their vows.
Interesting. Huh. Well...I would explain it to you...but it may just be better for you to See for yourself. There are multiple weddings that take place on the island of Mata Nui before BIONICLE season 1 ends. ;)
Well, iirc Vortixx (roodaka's species) get married by climbing a mountain, though I don't know if modeling matoran weddings on that would be a good idea since the last thing I'd call a vortixx marriage is "healthy". Personally, If matoran *had to* have weddings (not the biggest fan) I'd say the might get a matching pair of masks, since masks are a very important part of matoran culture.
Creator goes out of his way to say love isn’t canon for the decade Bionicle has been around then the Agori came along I believe have been confirmed to reproduce
I guess gender in bionicle is weird, I still think it is a fun world building exercise, making it identical as in humans seems like a path of lesser resistance
Merry Christmas, and God bless, brother. As I recall, the Great Beings never intended for the Matoran to be sentient; no more than they intended for Matoran to be terminated in wars, this making the demand for reproduction. I can also see how love in certain definitions may never even be a concept in the Bionicle universe. That said, I feel like Greg really underplayed the potential of sentience and relationships. There's way more to love than Rule 64.
I’ve been on a real depressive slump in the last few days for various reasons. But this video helped uplift me a little. Thank you, god bless and merry Christmas
I'm really sorry to hear that. :( But I'm glad this video helped in some way...that is, to some degree, Why we are here. We'll be praying for you here at LBS. Thanks for watching our videos...Even better stuff is on the way soon. :)

God bless you guys, at first i thought the concept of a christian centered bionicle film was silly perhaps even mockery, but now i come to understand the heart and love for jesus and believe that more christians should put as much thought and nuance in your work. I appreciate the level of theological sophistication laced within your retelling of mata nui. Reminds me of works of cs lewis and tolkien. Merry Christmas to you and your kin.
I always say that cannon is optional when it comes to fan works. We as fans have the uniqe position of being able to interpret our favorite works of fiction the way we want to. If there are things we do not agree with, we can decide to ignore or reinterpret it how we see fit. Fan works are, by their very design, an alternate universe no matter how close you stick to the originals.
Although I'm an athiestr. I truly feel moved by your prayer. And I love the lore you gave for the matoran as I always thought how in the world they make more
@@Wyattporter Greg Farshtey did confirm that there's a machine but I don't think it was ever specifically stated that the Turaga could select the element or gender
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of Bionicle families and relationships. I've been toying around in my head with ideas for a Bionicle where female matoran are not exclusive to the water tribe and how family dynamics can affect the story. Imagine Takus being an adopted brother to Jaller and his little brother (name pending). It could help build up Takua's character for the big reveal, and give motivation to Jaller's little brother if his Mask of Light death was permanent. I also imagine Takua having a crush on Gali (characters would be approximately 3 years apart in age in our system of dating/time), only to be brother-zoned in the end due to the difference. Love for both can be found elsewhere, and it would make their mental link seem more special.
@supernerd8067 the lightning and mind tribes are also female, and the light tribe has a mix of both. Also, in lore elements are more like genders in and of themselves. Takua famously switching from fire to light was an allegory.
Amen! We need more Bionicle content created by people of God. I also appreciate keeping love as it should be and aligning it to what God intended it to be without giving into social pressures and making it perverse like 99% of content these days. May His Holy name be Glorified!

I can't wait to see how the idea of family changes bionicle, because I think it will be very interesting to see siblings and parents and children relating to each other. I also can't wait to see what comes next! Merry Christmas! And a happy new year to you and to all your fans!
I never really sat down and thought about how spiritual Bionicle is, but it is very interesting to contemplate. I also think that "Christian" media has been lacking in projects such as this, stories and worlds that aren't direct renditions of the Bible, but take inspiration from Biblical stories and incorporate Biblical themes like the perseverance of love. I never really new why y that is since other religions such as Greek, Egyptian, Scandinavian mythologies have lots of content like that. That's something that I would like to do someday. I am in awe of your craftmanship and diligence, can't wait to see what awesome story and characters you have made, I have no doubt that they will be made with passion and care.
an interesting change to bionicle lore i always liked the love isnt canon lore (i dont enjoy romance in fiction) but im open and interested to see how you handle it on the topic of mata nui and makuta not being actual brothers thats actually very lore accurate i believe if i remember correctly mata nui chose makuta to be his "brother" and help him fix spherus magna and much like satan chose to betray his creator
*close. The matoran word "Ro'o" can be translated to "brother" but it directly translates to "person of mine". It's a term used when you want to make it clear you see someone as your equal in every way. Makuta started calling Mata-Nui that out of contempt for his contributions to the creation of the world going unrecognized, and later backed it up when he put Mata Nui to sleep
@@enderking1525 Wait, aren’t they real brothers, i have always thought that they were since Karzahni said to Hahli, and i quote: Me and my brother Artakha were the first to be created by The Great Beings
yeah, you were talking about what if mata nui and Makuta were real brothers, hence me bringing up Artakha and Karzahni, a close enough scenario@@Bionicle_fan2007
Very encouraging to see more Christians be willing to stand strong against how the world (and Bionicle fandom) has changed over the years. Merry Christmas and God bless!
I know there's a lot of arguing going on in these comments. But if you're actually open to a conversation, I'll say I think APinchofBazel is saying that your comment comes off as (not very) coded judgement of some marginalized groups. Look, I get it, when we're raised Christian we're taught the world is falling apart and there's certain people or beliefs to blame. And to avoid those people or "stand strong" against them. But many of us prefer a pluralistic, diverse and welcoming lego community (or society, while we're at it) @@LuketheDuke424
Wonderful video! Fellow based Christian, glad there are pockets of the Bionicle fandom out there that are decent and moral. We all know what have happened to the old community pages so I'm glad I could find projects like this out there. I'm intrigued by your take on the Bionicle lore. If they can read their weird beliefs into Bionicle, this take is just as valid. I always preferred the idea of romance in this world, but I wonder about its implications due to everything else established in it. I also find your take on the Mata Nui / Makuta relationship interesting. Do you have Great Beings in this take on Bionicle, too? I know it would diminish the allegory you're constructing, so I'm just curious. Anyway, lovely work. Love the art you've made. God bless, and Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much. It's is Greatly appreciated. The Great Beings Are going to come into the story, however their roles may be a Little different from the old lore. We see them more like Angels and the Great Spirit more like God...so I'd compare characters like Axonn potentially to a 'Great Being'.
That was an amazing prayer at the end and I pray that god will help y’all with project toa and I pray that y’all have a merry Christmas and a happy new year.btw(it ain’t called CHRISTmas for nothing) also this technically counts but the makuta refer to the rahkshi as their “sons”
Sexuality shouldn't be a big part of bionicle story since it neither important nor fitting for the story- they are 'robots' meaning they cannot reproduce nor have families in the traditional sense. THEN AGAIN what really works best is love in platonic sense- there does not have to be 'male' nor 'female' role in couples, more like a rare occurence like hewkii and maku simply spending time together, caressing each other and being affectionate. There don't need to be children since there cannot be any, thus there is no need for parental role to be fulfilled and the family as a whole falls apart. Technically it is what people yell the loudest about- equality. Two people (or matoran) on equal footing.
While I am not infact a Christian, you being in trou love is indeed the right thing, and the God a Devil camperisins wer fiting, one last thing your discretion of Mackota reminded me of geratena from pokemon (I think that's haw you spell it(though I'm sertint that it is not))
Thank you for making this video and this project, it's very heartwarming. I respect your willingness to express your devotion and faith, it can be a difficult thing to do these days. If love isn't considered "canon" in Bionicle then it should be, it's presence is found in many places in the franchise. I look forward to seeing more of your work, Merry Christmas and God bless.
Fiction is fiction. Yes, there are Christians who have such a stretch in their logic. Though there may be some basis for that view, such as the worship of idols, it's not like we BIONICLE fans believe Mata Nui is our god! That'd be like saying Harry Potter wizards and witches are the same as the ones in the Bible who made deals with devils! If someone made an altar to Mata Nui, there'd be concern. Like those who actually believe in Jediism, and visit the temple with the Yoda statue to meditate; or those mentally unwell girls who attempted to sacrifice a friend to Slenderman! But that doesn't mean every Star Wars fan believes in the Force, or every Slenderman player is part of a cult! Lessons can be learned via fiction! History is filled with stories written to teach children how to behave, or get adults to practice critical thinking! But (and this will sound ironic to a non-believer) the importance is to know the difference between truth and fiction!
@@xendordawnburst9969 thank you for long reply. I get your point and what I meant was certain believers being strictly against different representations of deity, Mata Nui being one. When I was a kid in my Muslim country religious adults hated Bionicle (particularly Piraka) and said westerners are making devil toys nowadays, lmao.
As your big man said, “When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men … but when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your father who is unseen.”
wait but. wouldnt that mean everyone needs a water colour since they'd all be interbreeding with the water tribe or something? if youre going to copy human breeding and even marriage why not have it so females exist in each tribe as well?
As a Christian, I appreciate the amount of effort that went into this, but I find it needlessly gatekept. Love absolutely has a place in Bionicle, in all forms and in all manners. This sort of subtle digs at queer relationships is harmful and gross, quite frankly. You can absolutely support having this take based on Christian beliefs without using it as a way to discredit others. We're called to love one another, not to divide amongst ourselves.
(In before the snowflakes) Thank YOU for making a Bionicle project that isn't filled with the degeneracy that plagues the Bionicle community. I love how you bring this up, and stand for our beliefs. Designing a family as God intended❤ I have a Toa of Sonics that suffers from PTSD via his life on Karzahni. A Toa of Psionics acts as his therapist and helper, I image if I were to write a story someday, they would be a couple. She would help him work through his trauma slowly And then there’s the fact that you prayed for us and the project, I will pray for you and the team in return. You have blessed my relatively chaotic life, thank you
