I was stressed through the roof with all the conflicting information and 'advice' from other bird owners to the point of literal tears, thinking that I was the worst bird owner ever (seriously, my parents were concerned). Then I found you guys and I finally felt like I got straight answers! Yall are the only solid information I've ever gotten on diet! You guys videos have helped me stop stressing. I check you guys videos before trying to go through a hectic internet search. And if I can't find the information I need, I am on a good avian forum with people that I haven't seen get nasty mean and start belittling if you ask a controversial question. Still new at this bird mom thing and just want Sunny to have the best life. I'll try not to leave so many question comments for you guys.

I totally understand where you’re coming from. So many people have been in that boat and it’s not fun. It’s a shame people wheel out the judgement and don’t just try to help. Just so you know the judgement extends right to the top too lol. I’m asking lots of questions of experts right now and I’m not always getting the straight answers I need to help people the right way using behavioural science! We try to do exactly that, present what we know as straight forwardly as possible and be open to new ideas. You should consider joining our Patreon or channel members so you can get access to our discord. You’d probably like it and the community there plus be able to talk to us directly! As for the forum awesome!

David and Sophie both provide excellent straight-forward bird info FOR THE BIRDS, not to make money. (i mean, if they also make money, even better for them! but its bird-first information!) you might also like watching @Birdtricks ... another channel with really good bird-first info for making birds' lives better.

I had to pretty much throw everything I have learned and trust my gut with my parrot. I felt like as good advice as I got, it was not the right for us or sometimes not the right time perhaps. We have our own way of doing things and I have learned to read him a lot better now. Almost couple years with him, some time ago for the first time he preened all his feathers on my hand and even lifted one foot and took a short nap. Today he stepped up many times in a row, extreme fear of hands prevented him from stepping up on my hand in the past but only flew on my hand from some distance. I applied same rules I train horses on my job, if I trust my instincts I always somehow find the way that works for the individual. It worked with Sigurd too. Instinct is surely not very scientific thing but it has not yet failed me when working with animals. Ofcourse science is what I trust among common sense and biology of said animal with feeding housing and many more but behavior I think needs emotional intelligence even more than science. Not humans or animals are completely explainable with science yet for a long time maybe never. When I studied biology the list of behaviors on animals that *science can't yet explain* was longer than things we COULD explain. And even many of those have been disputed of even disproven in the past.

I feel it’s always good to keep an open mind. Trust in your own values and experience but be open to all the new ideas that come up. There is a behavioural science that has lots of uses especially in training and working out how to work with problems! But as I have recently discovered even that isn’t foolproof and is being developed in a certain way that doesn’t really include the home environment!

I genuinely think this was a well-needed video! I almost always rely on my avian veterinarians for my questions. I see my vets every 3-4 months, and if I am curious about something and if I'm not able to see them for awhile, more often than not, I go to my trusted sources. Also, not many people have avian veterinarians in their area, so online sources are often their best options. On a last note, I do think it is also important that when reading articles, blog posts, or watching bird care videos, be mindful of the date they were posted. Most individuals who have written these articles or made care videos have the best intentions, but after a couple of years, these informations might now be considered slightly out-dated, but that's probably no fault of their own. It was probably the most relative and widely accepted opinion around those times.

All very true stuff in this comment! I feel some of our older content is even out of date!

I like the tip of when you see or read content that it incorrect it guides you to find the correct answers. I also think that contacting an Avian Vet would also be helpful if you have questions, but even doing that still do your own research.

I had an avian vet tell me they couldn't answer my question because I had never seen them (I just wanted to know if a blood feather that already clotted was okay)

@@skort94 I can understand why the vet said what they said because they didn't want to give you the wrong answer since they had never met the birb. I wish I had a better answer.

Some avian vets are awesome, others are cautious too! Its good to ask questions wherever you can even if you don’t get answers

Good video! Getting to know a licensed Avian Vet is probably the best plan. And no the 3000 cat and dog vets down the street from you are NOT Avian Vets. Sure they will state, "I know about all animals," but a true Avian Vet specialist probably only sees birds and exotics. In the USA you can find websites that tell you where real Avian Vets are in each state. And I would advise AGAINST using "forums." I stopped using "parrotforum" because the people on there, including the mods, promote ideas that lead to pet bird death. And they don't care, they seem to want you to lose you pet. Horrible place...
