BIRD PHOTOGRAPHY || Dartford Warbler || Canon 7D MKII
In this video I set out to capture the Dartford Warbler, a bird who is resident in the UK all year round. I have never before been able to see or photograph a dartford warbler so in this video I am taking you with me on my first attempt to photograph the dartford warbler.
To photogrpah the Dartfor Warbler I am using the Canon 7D MKII with the Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM II Lens. In this video I am using the set up to do bird photography with my main aim being to capture the darford warbler. I also find the stonechat and hear a cuckoo.... but what will I manage to photograph?
I hope you enjoy this video, if you do then please consider subscribing, liking and commenting. All the best, Ben.

I understand that wildlife is more active during the morning and the light is much better for photography. I also understand that some people only want to go outside to get photos to share with the world. For me personally, wildlife photography is a gatway to getting outside and I do not always walk around with my camera out. Sometimes I have had my camera in my bag and witnessed amaznig wildlife right infront of me and I have no photos to show of these occasions, but I do have memories and experiances. Sometimes I just like being in nature and it isn't always about getting a photo. Please just take a moment to breath, stop, observe and be in the moment. All the best, Ben.

Nice video Ben always a good idea to have your camera ready as these warblers can pop up anywhere as you are walking also morning is a better time.

Thank you Kevin :) yes, mornings are always better, but sometimes you just have to go out during the day and enjoy being in nature. Likewise, you don't always need to have your camera out. All the best, Ben.

Yes! I've been saving this till today where I can sit and enjoy it. Lol just brilliant. Having been coerced into buying the perfect lens for the job, small songbirds have become an obtainable target. I used an app called Birdnet which is free and it ids birds it hears. As long as a chif chaf isn't nearby. Bloody thing never shuts up. But when it does I've found some yellowhammers and I've become smitten with them. Just can't stop taking photos and film. Just beautiful. And each stage pushes me to get closer. Then film. Then the female and ive rwcently seen fledglings. Can't tell you how fascinating they are. But what I did find helps me get closer is using utube to broadcast their song. Phone on full volume playing their song and they suddenly turn up in a gang. And it's worked with several different species. And when they arrive I turn it off. They stay for ages feeding and exploring. As long as I'm there when they arrive and I move very little, they don't worry about me. This channel has become a mainstay of information for me because its delivered in a really gentle and low impact way. Not a trailer load of gear. Just calm stealth and knowledge. And taking us along. Can't wait for the watervoles one but I've found the badger one too. So the challenge is on. The yellow hammer took two weeks to learn its routine. The badgers is gonna be harder but I can't wait. Great vlog Ben thank you for sharing with us 😊

Hi Adam, it is great that you enjoy my videos so much that you save it untill you can properly watch it haha that is great news to me :) I will have to downloa the Birdnet app and see how I get on with it, thank you for the suggestion. Likewise I will give the bird song playback ago in the field and see what shows up. It seems as though that method has been working wonders for you. Badgers are tricky, even today after knowing a sett for years I still find them hard to photograph because of the dimly lit woodland and the fact that the badgers routine is never the same (rarely come out during daylight). You might get lucky and find a sett which come out early, before the sun has set. Goodluck! All the best, Ben.

I don't know what is more cool your bike or my camper Ben 😂 Never seen a Dartford Warbler ever! I naively thought they were from Dartford 😂

Nice one Ben, a really good watch, they are a regular sight down here in Cornwall. You do have to be careful at this time of year as they are a Schedule 1 specie so a licence is needed if you were to photograph them on or around the nest! Still those shots were nice and the Male looked awesome. All the best mate and keep it up. R

Hi Richard, thanks for watching. I know they are a protected species which is why I wasn't looking for a nest but at the same time I would never look for or go near a nest of any bird (protected or not) and it really frustrates me when I see photographers posting images of nest. I hope it did not come across as though I was looking for a nest but I did mention that I was not looking for a nest. Also, I was observing the bird that flew into the shrubbery from a footpath and I had no reason to believe there was a nest until it flew down at which point I continued along the footpath. Thanks again for watching Richard, I am loving your videos recently. All the best, Ben.

Ben Fitzcosta cool, nice one Ben:-) thought you’d be all over it:-) good man👍. Not all people are aware and good to point out 👍! I’ve been asked about the same before, but most of us know:-) I've had Schedule 1 for Dartford and Barn Owl and on Social Media people always get excited about that sort of thing, and rightly so, but thought it was good reiterating it just in case. thanks mate, great video, yours too👍🙏

Great video. Darties are tricky customers. I saw one at Thursley yesterday but have had no luck photographing one since early March when they were showing and singing well. I only discovered Hankley a couple of weeks ago- lovely place, got some Cuckoo shots and Tree Pippits as well. But then the Army turned up and it was time to go (they were on manoeuvres).

Hi Jeremy, amzong to hear you got a cuckoo image at Hankley. I have heard them calling but I have yet to see one there. Thanks for watching and commenting. All the best, Ben.

Hi Ben. Try going out earlier, at 1st light if the location isn't too far from home for you. Better chance of a bird perched up high displaying, revealing itself to you then.
