I'd say with the hunter guild out now birdhouse runs are kind of obsolete for pure hunter training since hunter guilds offer more XP and nests. The only exception i'd say is if you're an ironman, farming giant seaweed for crafting XP means that doing birdhouses along the way isn't too much extra work.
