The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is set on a group of islands in a vast sea, a departure for the series. The player controls series protagonist Link as he attempts to save his sister from the sorcerer Ganon and becomes embroiled in a struggle for the Triforce, a sacred wish-granting relic. Aided by allies including pirate captain Tetra - an incarnation of Princess Zelda - and a talking boat named the King of Red Lions, Link sails the ocean, explores islands, and traverses dungeons to acquire the power necessary to defeat Ganon. Wind, which facilitates sailing, plays a prominent role and can be controlled with a magic conductor's baton called the Wind Waker.

So I do have some tips that will be great. Make sure to re visit windfall Island once you finish the 1st dungeon, especially in the night. There is an item that is a big improvement from the original... and a couple more items that would help a lot. Trust me. You will not regret it. Oh yeah... for the gamecube version, the bottle was actually another item called The Tingle Tuner and it was one of the best item. It connects the cube to the gba (no game needed). It calls Tingle to help you out during your adventure... like health, bomb, temporary air walk, etc. It also gives you lore and other neat tidbit I will explain when you pass them. Just running a little test, you have to do a mini trail on Windfall before you can use the tuner. It ain't bad and it even ends with Tingle bombing the jail he was in. Oh yeah and go back to Tingle's cell.

In case you're curious, this is the first appearance of the Rito in the Zelda games. And funnily enough, their only appearance prior to breath of the wild. Unlike the Zora's or Goron who were series staples by that point, Rito were more of a one game thing that got brought back in BOTW. If I had to take a guess, they wanted each champion to be from a different species, but needed one more to fill out the roster, and decided Rito's would make for a fun addition.

This is the game that introduced the Rito as a species, much like how Ocarina of Time introduced the Gorons. However, unlike Gorons & Zoras, which have been in multiple Legend of Zelda games since their debuts, Wind Waker & Breath of the Wild are the *only two* Legend of Zelda games that have the Rito.

I think the lore reason is that the zoras evolved into the rito after the great flood. The Zora. A literal fish people. Evolved into birds. After a flood. And before anyone says that there were Rito and Zora in BotW, they also had the Twilight Mirror in a game that had Koroks, which are likely evolved Kokiri. That game messes up the timeline a lot.

So now that you’ve met her Nico. I have a very special story to tell you. My best friend in the world loves the legend of Zelda. It’s his favorite video game series of all time and it means a lot to him. He replays the games regularly. While Twilight Princess is his comfort game, Wind Waker has a special place in his heart for many reasons The reason I will touch on all has to do with Medli. During one of his replays, he was just playing it while his wife watched. She’s a choir teacher and when she met Medli, she thought that was an amazing name and she loved the character. Time passed and these two had their first child. A little baby girl they named Medley. Her name is perfect. It shows both of them in her. His love for his favorite series and her love for music. I have been in his life since a little before she was born so I’ve gotten to see her grow up a little. She’s now in kindergarten and I cannot wait to hear the story of when her father tells her that she is named after a little bird girl from his favorite video game.

Fun fact: The original GameCube version had Tingle give a Tingle themed Gameboy Advance called the "Tingle Tuner" instead of the Tingle bottle. It was an item that when you use it while your GBA was connected to the console, you can use it for multiple useful things. It made your GBA act like a mini map and could let you use unique powers by spending rupees. You could restore your health, gain temporary invincibility, float in the air after walking off a cliff for a few seconds, get tips, look at the in-game time, and even have Tingle drop bombs down from above. It was such a useful item that people even use it to do speed runs. Too bad the Tingle bottle is useless in both the Wii U and emulation.

It really is a shame they removed the Tingle Tuner. That thing is a blast to mess with, offers some cool bonus challenges with rupee rewards and the whole statue quest requires a guide without it. You would think the gamepad would be the perfect implement to replicate the whole GBA setup.

So fun fact about the squid shooting minigame. That game was the bane of 100% speedrunners existence for the longest time. There is a unique reward locked behind completing it in under 20 shots, and where the squids are is determined solely by RNG. As you can guess, that lead to many dead runs, which is especially annoying as it's done 30 minutes into the run. Thankfully, the rng for it was eventually figured out, and a program was made that speedrunners could now use to almost certainly know where the squids would be. If you want to learn more about this, there is a video about it by Linkus7 appropriately titled "How we solved the worst mini game in Zelda History" (Video does contain some minor spoilers beyond where you are now Nico, so I wouldn't watch it until later)

Dank Lore headcanon: The Wind Waker lets you borrow the power of the Gods right? Who is basically a God? Joshua. When Kokichi Link skipped time into adulthood, he shared powers with Joshua Now that Kokichi Link was sent to the past, Future Joshua had nowhere to go, and no hero to call on So he saw Apollo Link running around and said “Aha, you go little guy” and had the King of Red Lions give him a legendary baton, to carry on the powers of The Conductor. Truly the dankest of lore.

Fun fact, the Rito were based on an avian race known as the Watarara from the Ocarina of Time manga by Akira Himekawa. When the game was being made, they realized they needed an avian race to fly over the ocean, and they remembered the Watarara from the manga, so the Rito were partially birthed by Akira Himekawa and the manga.

Link: I gotta get some water for these wilted bomb flowers, let see, there's a spring right here with a rock on top, but there is water leaking out.... The Tingle Bottle is actually a Wii U/Miiverse replacement for an item from the original GameCube version. That was what was called the Tingle Tuner, which added connectivity with a Game Boy Advance to allow people to play as Tingle and help Link out with benefits/items/treasures and other weird hidden stuff. Strange that they didn't include something similar in this version, since they could've included compatibility for the GamePad itself.

About the wind waker timing, like the tutorial said, you do not need *to time it* , you just need to *be holding the input when the metronome hits the center.* Once the metronome hits the center, the game will read the input you were holding, thats the cue for you to hold the direction for the next input. Also, theres some collectables in this game, that arent necessary for the completion of the main story, its mostly for the 100% of the game, that can be missed and you "cannot" get them otherwise which will make so you cant 100% the game, that happened to me and and it sucked, also, i say "cannot" because you COULD use the tingle bottles to send those collectables to other players, and if they missed those (and were lucky to get your tingle bottle) they could complete their collectable list thingy to 100% the game that way, but since you are playing in a emulator, and well, miiverse isnt a thing anymore, you cant use the tingle bottles, so i guess you have no other choice other than NOT miss those. Idk if i should say how to get them and which ones are missable because its kind of spoilery-ish, and i know you arent really into 100%'ing games, but if you feel like getting them, just say the word and im sure the penguins will be -more than- happy to help.

Small tip, once you complete I think the first dungeon, return to windfall with a bit of money and go back to the bottom floor of the rich guy’s house. There’s a chance for a unique item that you’ll recognize as soon as you see it. It’s a huge QoL added to the remake compared to the original

You were actually capable of pushing that crate at the back of Tingles cell, by standing next and pressing ZR to grab it. 36:15 you can grab and pull out the bottom of these two blocks to create a shortcut. Worse still is that you won't be able to return to Windfall for a while now after leaving, so you basically just lost your chance 😑 if you're unsure about controls or how to interact with certain objects, just look to the buttons on the top right of the screen. For example, when you're on your boat while the sail is put away, you'll notice that ZR allows you to "Cruise", which let's you move the boat around to a certain degree; it's useful for positioning yourself.

If you recall from BOTW; all the Divine Beasts were named after characters from previous games. Only the Goron, Zora, and Gerudo DB's were named after characters from Ocarina of time. The Rito DB was name after Medli because she was a very memorable character from this game and the Rito only ever appeared in this game and BOTW.

So Horace has gone from King of Fruit Ball in Birth By Sleep to a god in Breath of the Wild, but in Windwaker he was demoted to a mailbox, since there is no need for horses in a world consisting of mostly water. No wonder he's pissed.

Well it's more like: Fruit Ball master -> Mailbox -> Horse God As we know that BoTW takes place extremely far in the future after WW ends. So Horace becoming a God in that time makes sense.

If you're trying to time the "stick press" exactly like a rhythm game that is probably why the windwaker is giving you trouble. You just hold the stick down all the way in the direction of the next note and then change to the next direction as soon as you see the metronome pass the center and the sound plays.

Behold, the worst change in Wind Waker hd. In the original GameCube released the tingle bottles were the tingle tuner, an item that allowed you to communicate with tingle using the Game Boy advance. He would Supply you with bits of lore and commentary. You could also buy potions and bombs on the fly. With miiverse shut down, the tingle bottles don't even do anything anymore. It is also the main reason that wind waker HD has not come to switch yet is because they would have to replace tingle bottles with something else.

SPLOOSH KABOOM Yep, just Tingle in a prison cell, perfectly normal. To be perfectly fair, as a kid I could not play the Wind Waker for the life of me. I was stuck on the tutorial for it for so freaking long. Oh Dragon Roost Island, how your theme song cannot be topped in such a strong, nostalgic emotion. I almost cried when I heard the BOTW remix for the first time.

The Rito are indeed the same bird people from BOTW- they were originally from this game. The sploosh-kaboom game has 3 total "good prizes" to get- you need to beat the game twice, with no conditions- and also you need to beat it in under 20 shots for a third reward. The bane of speedrunners. Tingle originally gave a Tingle Tuner, which had connectivity if you hooked up a gameboy advance to your gamecube (via a special cable). In OoT, you do not actually start with a song- you get the ocarina when leaving the forest, and learn the first song from Zelda in the castle. So, between that time, you have no songs to play.

The fact that the first few Previously sgements have been SOLEY the MaIlbox segments really makes me want to see the And Now Back To segment to just have Komaeda click a gun now. But something I should definitely say that you should keep in mind for this game, the counter attack makes this game a LOT more dynamic and fun than previous. Primarily due to the change of the previous games making the basic attacks a lot... more difficult to utilize, at least from what I remember. It's also the most unique part of Wind Waker that has it becomes it's coolest part, so I'd reccomend trying it out whenever possible.

So yeah, the Rito are originated from this game, and if my memory serves correctly, appear exclusively on this timeline only. This means they sadly haven't gotten many games to shine, somewhat similiar to the Dekus and Kokiri, but people still love them! Some people, myself included, were very happy to see the Rito return in BOTW, with a champion. Speaking of BOTW, Vah Medoh comes from Medli, as you may have already guessed, being the only divine beast not named after an Ocarina of time character

So in the original version of Wind Waker after saving Tingle, he gives you the Tingle Tuner. An item that can be used if you have a GBA and a connector cable. What it does is that you can control Tingle in the GBA while it’s connected to the GameCube to assist Link, but for a price for the actions like dropping bombs. And there’s a side quest that is tied to this, but HD version removed the item, but you can do the side quest. You just need a guide to do it which I recommend to do it after you do before heading to the final dungeon. And the Tingle bottles are now worthless since Miiverse is shut down.

If the sidequest you're talking about is the Gold Tingle statues, then it is actually still in the game and 100% completeable. You just have to do it without the Tingle Tuner. Of course if you never played the original, you would probably never know about the statues but the quest itself is still fully in the game.

Holy sh!t I’m actually early… this is weird. I actually was rewatching nicos play through of AA:SoJ when I saw this go live. Going from Apollo justice to totally not apollo link just made me smile. They just have so much in common. They’re both short, they both tend to yell a lot, they both seem to be a magnet for trouble, and (SPOILER FOR ACE ATTORNEY) they both have a little sister that’s clad in blue. Edit: he also has a “wise” mentor who will constantly sh!t on him. Thanks Phoenix of red lions!

Nico I highly Recommend you stock up on All-Purpose Bait and the Pears, both are used in puzzles and the All-Purpose bait has a couple extra uses. You can use it to fill out the map, buy things in dungeons, uncover treasure and it can even be used on an end-game boss.

Regarding those music stuff, you can hold the direction before the metronom hits the center. As soon as it hits the center, it locks the note you are "playing", down being down, not doing anything being the center. You dont have to press the direction at the center, you can just hold it before it hits center.

Why do you keep making me talk to those crazy talking Postal Service boxes? We both know I don't have anything for them to deliver and I hate getting shot at everytime I talk to them. You're so lucky that they have the aim of a Stormtrooper or I would be full of holes like swiss cheese by now! Nico: It's for content, Link. CONTENT!!

By the way, that battleships game used to be the deaths of many, many 100% speedruns for Wind Waker - until a special program was developed for speedrunners to use that let them work out the best squares to pick. It's actually really fascinating the research that was put into getting it together.

Fun fact: Because Miiverse shut down years ago the Tingle bottle is completely useless. In the original for Gamecube he would give you the Tingle Tuner which would let you connect a Gameboy to the system so you or a friend could help in the game by pointing out hidden chests and, at the cost of rupees, use bombs and other items.
