The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is set on a group of islands in a vast sea, a departure for the series. The player controls series protagonist Link as he attempts to save his sister from the sorcerer Ganon and becomes embroiled in a struggle for the Triforce, a sacred wish-granting relic. Aided by allies including pirate captain Tetra - an incarnation of Princess Zelda - and a talking boat named the King of Red Lions, Link sails the ocean, explores islands, and traverses dungeons to acquire the power necessary to defeat Ganon. Wind, which facilitates sailing, plays a prominent role and can be controlled with a magic conductor's baton called the Wind Waker.

Fun fact about the boss in the Forbidden Woods, there's a way to cheese the fight. If you bring a bottle of sacred forest water with you and pour it on the head inside the flower, it dies without you even hitting it with your sword.

So yeah you can one shot the boss by using the forest water from forest haven on it. The incredible thing about this easter egg is that NO ONE KNEW ABOUT IT FOR 14 YEARS. It was in the original too and was discovered by a streamer called Fish Waffle 64 in 2016 when the chat said "water the plant" as a joke. I could imagine the developers thinking "Oh thank god! Someone finally found this obscure feature we added".

Stuff like this going unnoticed always confuses me. Can’t people who hack the game find a list of how different enemies interact to different items? Like "If touches Forest Water, Defeat" or something? Or am I not understanding how stuff like that is programmed?

@@pokefan7446 Programming is not written in such a straightforward way, and there's so many little things involved with every single element that 'following the trail' and figuring out what one specific code line even means and what interactions it is involved in can take a while.

@@pokefan7446 This is an old comment, but to elaborate... The code on the game's disk isn't the same as the code the developers write. Before it gets released, the understandable human-level code is compiled - turned into machine code, binary, because that's more efficient to store on the disk. So when people get into the game's files, they're getting the base-level binary. In order to actually know what the any particular bit of the code actually does they need to DEcompile it; reverse engineer it, basically. That's why decompilation projects can take so long, because the code is machine code, not meant for human consumption. Just a big string of ones and zeros.

Nico, the grappling hook doesn't really function like the Hookshot, the only thing you can use it for is grabbing enemy items, treasure hunting, and swinging off branches. It does no damage and doesn't interact with most objects. A thing of note is that you can slow down whilst swinging and change your direction.

Since we've got loads of ChuChus in here, I think it's worth mentioning one of the funniest details about this game. The Chuchus' funny little jabbering sound is actually sped-up audio of two Japanese men shouting at each other, played in reverse. You can look up the clip by itself just by searching Windwaker Chu chu sound.

I remember playing this game at a friend's house when I was a kid. We thought the little spiky eye burrs were adorable, and made sure to keep one stuck to us for as long as possible in every dungeon they appeared in. I think we named it steve, because everything silly was named Steve back then.

FYI, when you're swinging on the grapling hook, you can stop swinging by holding ZR and once stopped, use the analog stick to climb up or down the rope - this is a technique you will need to use at some point...

So while Koroks first appearing in this game is technically correct, it's highly implied (and confirmed by external sources) that the Koroks are descendant from the Kokiri from Ocarina of Time which were Link's adopted species as well as Saria's species. This is why the Deku Tree states that the Koroks looked more human like in the distant past.

You found a Blue Chuchu. Fun Fact, those things NEVER respawn. There is a finite amount of them in the game, and usually only one per island (Not all islands have one though). Meaning there is a finite amount of Blue Chu Jelly in the game as well. You need a certain amount of it for... I guess you could call it a quest? Just show it to the Chu Jelly fanatic in Windfall's Potion Shop. Getting _every_ blue chu jelly accomplishes absolutely nothing more but given that there is a finite amount, you COULD conceivably count it as part of 100% completion.

You mentioned that the main room looks like the Deku Tree in Ocarina of Time, and there's actually a theory that this dungeon is the remains of the old tree that died and the one in the forest haven is the Deku Tree sprout that emerged after completing the forest temple. Zelda lore is actually pretty loaded with details like this that aren't explicitly explained in game, so I'd say this one is pretty plausible.

It's so weird seeing someone go back to 3D Zelda *after* Breath of the Wild. You overthink the puzzles way more. The physics engine wasn't nearly as complicated in older games, lol. It's mostly just context-sensitive puzzles. That being said, it's impressing me more than I remember how many different ways you can use your items in this game already.

Nico, just about everything non-boss can be L-Target parried. That includes those giant bugs that chopped off your head. May wanna get into the habit of doing parries now, they'll make your life much easier. And cooler too, Toon Link ain't messing around with them.

If you recall from BOTW; there was a DLC mask that you used to locate Koroks. That mask was actually Makars mask. But why was his mask chosen in particular? Because Makar is actually considered by many to be one of the most popular characters from this game. I mean come on; look at the little guys small and adorable body and cute leaf face. He's also got some great violin skills and can be easily made into an adorable, marketable plushie!

I have really no idea where the idea that this is supposed to be Bomb Island is coming from. XD The easiest way to defeat the peahats (spinning, flying enemies) for me was to lock on, them simply throw the boomerang twice. Seriously, use lock-on more often. It's VERY helpful.

There is a way to one shot the boss of this dungeon. If you get a bottle of water from the roots of the Deku Tree and pour it in the boss, it will insta-kill it. The lore reason is the Deku Tree's water has purification properties. The catch is you only have twenty minutes to use it. This is also noteworthy because this wasn't discovered until well over a decade after the game's release.

Fun little tidbit about the boss of the Forbidden Woods. There is a way to instant kill it by bringing Forest Water into it, knocking it down from the ceiling, and pouring the water on it. Because the water there is purified it kills all sorts of parasites and it being the ultimate paradise it dies no problem. Essentially in order to pull off the instant kill you’ll have 30 minutes (20 in the GameCube version) to get from Forest Haven and complete the entire dungeon in one go and it’s a fun little challenge and very fun to pull off. The best part is that this trick was discovered by accident.

Something I don't think the game ever tells you but will be required at some point: when you're swinging with the grappling hook you can stop swinging with ZR and then climb the rope, you can even climb on top of the pole you're swinging from.

Now that you’ve actually met Makar, here’s a fun detail about him - So there are 10 Koroks in Wind Waker, and they are all unique individuals with their own names and everything. In Breath of the Wild, 9 of those Koroks just had their designs repurposed for the countless generic unnamed Koroks scattered across the land. Makar is the only one of them whose design was not repurposed for Korok NPCs like that. Also quick recap: In Ocarina of Time, the children of the forest were the “Kokiri”, and they looked like human children. Since they all had fairy companions, humans also called them “fairy children”. Ocarina of Time Link grew up thinking he was a Kokiri, since the Deku Tree raised him, but he was actually a Hylian by birth. And now, many years later, the Kokiri people have transformed into the shape of Koroks, after they had come to live on the Great Sea - which is what the current Deku Tree alluded to last episode.

Here's a fun fact, the sound that the ChuChu enemies (the slime looking things) make is actually a sped up and reversed argument between two middle-aged Japanese people. Two phrases that can be heard are "At least I'm not balding!" and "And looking like you are, people will think you're a monster". Nico as a reminder you can pretty much guarantee one of those items that go into your spoil bag if you grappling hook every enemy before you kill it, if you don't plan on doing a bunch of side quest you can ignore this but if you grapple hook every enemy as you go through the game it'll save you a ton of enemy farming if you do decide to do them.

Fun fact: The references from this game (at least, the ones that I'm aware of idk if there are any more) in BOTW are Vah Medoh (referencing Medli), and the huge moat surrounding the Lost Woods called Lake Mekar and the tiny island in Lake Mekar called Mekar Island (of course, referencing Makar).

Hey it helps making of habit of checking to see if each new enemy has a item to steal with the grappling hook, it 100% guarantees you get the item instead of just hoping the enemy drops it over rupees. Enemy drops become a lot more important later on so steal them where you can, the loud birds you fought at dragon roost and the peahats (little round things with the propellers on their head) can have those feathers stolen from them. There will also be an enemy later on that you can see wearing the knights crest that can be stolen.

Hey nico, now that you have the boomerang you can fight the giant squids on the seas and a squid that near your home island will boost your magic meter. Also, you might have noticed your sword flashing when you target some enemies, that is your parry, it can be used to one-shot enemies like chu chus and disarm some enemies your best training partner to learn is also back on your home island. One more thing, get a fairy in a bottle after you get your bombs and use it on your grandma for something awesome. One more thing, the islands that are shape like hearts are great places to get fairies and upgrades for some items. One more thing, you can climb with your grappling hook by first stop swinging on it and then climb

Fun fact about those balls that drop (lol) when you defeat an enemy. They’re called a “Spoils Ball” and the contents do change based on what color they are when you break them. Green will give you more money, and red/pink will give you more hearts.

Nico. when using The grappling hook, you have the ability to stop swinging while on it, where you stay still with the hook still on the little overhang, you can then start climbing it to the top. that pole allows you to climb it to get higher. try it out! i think ZR is used to stop swinging normally, don't jump off the rope, you won't be able to climb it then.

Alright Nico, after watching you play Wind Waker, I think I got some tips that will help you on your journey! Tip 1: Assume that with your current Items, you are able to get EVERY chest in a dungeon. I could be wrong in thinking this, but I seem to recall that there aren’t chests in temples you can’t get on your first try. (If someone knows more than me, say so down below with no spoilers.) Tip 2: Read the button prompts in the top right. This will be a great hint at what you can do, seeing as how there is a certain feature on one of your items you haven’t discovered yet. I leave the exploring to you. Tip 3: Use your lock on and Spikey “A” commands, it will help you when fighting tough enemies like Moblins. Also, use them because they’re REALLY cool! Tip 4: (Someone below has told me this is incorrect, so ignore this one.) You know those weird orbs that some enemies can drop? Their colors aren’t random! Breaking a sphere while it has a certain color up will make it drop different items. Try it out when you can. That’s all I got, so I hope this helps! Here’s to another episode on the S.S.L.P!

I researched, and NO, the color of the treasure orbs does NOT affect what comes out. The only source I could find that suggests this is disproved in that same link, ie someone uses savestates to test the same orb in different colors and got the same drops.

i think that's literally what they ARE. in the last episode they overtly gave us two pieces of information supporting this: - koroks used to have human forms before they took to the ocean - the forbidden woods used to be their home before it was overrun by monsters

Okay, Nico, time to tel you how those orbs work. You see they change between red, breen and yellow. If you break them when red, they drop more hearts. Breat them reen, you get more magic, and if you break them when yellow, more Rupees. Also since the Boomerang can target up ti five things at once, it's my preferred tool for fihting the giant Squids. Speaking of there's on two squares east of Outset I"sland you'll really really want to fight.

The ends of dungeons in this game always make me feel so unnerved because the portal uses the same sound effects as Final Hours in Majora's Mask. It's very creepy, I'm not sure why they thought it was a good sound effect for these wind portals.

A small detail about those glowing orbs that the enemies can sometime leave behind is that they'll cycle through pink, orange and green. If you hit the orb while it shows any of the colours, you'll get something a little extra from the loot table associated with that colour. The results may vary but pink usually gives you more heart than usual. Green means more rupees and I'm not sure about orange but my guess is maybe treasure like those in your spoil bag, magic jars to restore your magic bar or maybe a mix of the other two colours? Just be sure to hit the orb because if you leave one alone for too long, they will disappear, leaving nothing behind for you to grab. A word of advice when it comes to weapons (your sword, the Moblin spear, the bokoblin sword or stick etc.) is to do a quick spin attack repeatedly because spin attacks goes through walls. This will help you to land a hit more effectively in tight spots. Hope this helps!

Funny fact of that boss fight, if you were to scoop up the water near the great deku tree and poured it on the boss after knocking it down, it would instantly kill the boss in one hit. However the water has a time limit before it becomes regular water so you would have to return to the great tree just before the boss.

People are talking about how you can cheese this boss fight with Sacred Forest Water, but you can also cheese the fight with bombs. Normally you wouldn't have bombs yet, but there are ways to get them before this fight with glitches. The flower head's hit box is still there underneath the large flower, and with 3 well placed bombs you can end the fight really quickly. ((I don't think it counts as a spoiler that you eventually get bombs in a Zelda game, but mods feel free to let me know if I need to remove this lol.))

PS: For that grappling hook at 1:00:15 and any other that seems like a vantage point to get to higher ground, you can stop your swinging and climb the rope up to the grappling point. Also, speaking of higher ground, you got any ideas to reach that lone island at Forest Haven with the out-of-reach ladder?

I mean of course he's a little drunk, he drinks like a fish. Oh when it comes to fighting enemies like moblins you really should remember to use the parry mechanic. Its good for dodging attacks and getting through enemy guards. You can also climb up the grappling hook rope when you stop swinging.

With the merchants there's 3 of them on different islands, I think the early items can be between any of them, but later there's a specific order if you wanna get EVERY item. It's not necessary though, just side stuff.

Nico, pro tip about the Grappling Hook. It doesn't do damage, just steals. Also you can hold ZR to stop swinging and then adjust your position, even go up and down on it. For some reason the game never really tells you that?

Since you commented on the hole in the center of the dungeon, I want to somewhat confirm your thinking. There is a big theory that the Forbidden Woods dungeon is the remains of original Deku Tree from Ocarina of Time. The general layout may intentionally have been designed to feel familiar. Some of the doors have the Kokiri symbol on it (same one on the Kokiri Shield and the Emerald). Also some of the Koroks here claim that the Forbidden Woods used to be their home.
