Birdy to Brompton -- Would I go Back? (5.2024)

Thank you so much for addressing my question! I'm mostly using nail laquor for a locktyte replacement because we have it on hand and it's cheap, but i will give aquarium silicone a try since you recommended it. We will also be trying out different other options for battery placement, as for instance clipping it to the saddle, although we are not fully convinced. What worked well but interfered with carrying it up and down stairs too much was to mount it on the top tube with a plank similar to the frame rack by eerder metal and others. We fully agree that electrifying isn't about being old or unfit in any way. Mostly it just extends the reach we have, but it also makes going out for a ride or using the bike for any task an easier decision. But it is certain that you can easily work a sweat on an electic bike too. I think it's a great option for all those who use it daily and want to be flexible about the physical work they are doing as well as those who haven't got the luxury to have ideal training conditions directly in front of their door and need to get some distance to cycle nicer places. It's way more reasonable to use a bike for that than to use the car to get some place where you'd use a bike without a motor. Again thank you so much. If we find a better conversion battery placement we'll make sure to keep you updated. For now we're hoping it holds up and maybe to get smaller batteries that could be taken apart into less than 100W to take on an airplane.

I love the fact that you call your bike, "The Brompton Interceptor!" 🤣That's amazing... and true too. Not even Mark Cavendish is going to catch you, that's for sure. But let's take it back a step, into the world of manual pedaled folding bikes. Cost-no-object, would you rather have a fully custom Brompton T-Line or a fully custom titanium Birdy? Moultons are great but they don't fold and they're not easily portable. That's their Achilles heel.

Hypothetically today, in a one on one choice between the Brompton & Birdy, discounting any need for speed modifications, which would you choose?
