First flew out of Elmdon as a young boy in the 1960s on BEA Vickers Viscounts to Jersey, then later, on BEA Tridents and charter BAC 1-11s to Spain. I remember the check-in area well where a member of staff would go up an A-frame ladder to attach white letters to the departure and arrivals 'pin-boards'. When your flight was called you would go straight out of a glass door on to the Apron to board your aircraft which was just there outside. The Cafeteria was straight ahead which was VERY 1960s, and overlooked the runway, or if you wanted to go a bit 'posh' you could go up the stairs or take the lift to the 'Skyways Restaurant'...a real treat!
