I remember having my first pint of Birra Moretti back in around 2011/12 when I was 19 and it was a phenomenal beer back then. I can only guess that back then it was imported. Seems to me that as soon as Heineken gets their hands on a brand they turn it to piss.

Aldi are very clever at eking out the best value, Moretti likely has a huge advertising budget to tack on top of the costs so the Aldi beer actually probably cost more to make, so for that reason I’m not surprised it tastes better. With branded items you’re just paying for the labels and packaging to look pretty and to see your favourite product on the telly; you’re not usually paying for better quality products. But people swear that things like Heinz are more premium than own brands. People will never learn. Yes I know Heinz don’t make beer 🤣

It was the same for me with his review of 10 lagers and the Tsingtao came only second by a whisker. I can't now believe I might be buying a Chinese lager in preference to buying British, but British breweries I feel have let us down badly for donkeys years. Don't know why anyone would buy Fosters, Carling, Stella (not unfiltered) or similar when much better beers are available at reasonable prices. Even FeldSchlossen is good by comarison to the common brews and that's as cheap as chips. (not that chips are cheap now)

I refuse to buy fake European designer beer on principle - they're not only dishonest & overpriced but are almost always underwhelming. Got no problem forking out for the knock offs (which ironically _are_ actually imported) every now & then though - they're generally better!! The Lidl version is actually their best standard range lager these days. Cheers Si! Edit: well maybe the knock offs _aren't_ imported 🤷🏿‍♀️ But at least they're not over sold

Mapelli is far better than the UK brewed Moretti. My mate brought some Moretti over last night and these days it's utter dirt. It used to have a nice maltiness to it and a bit of body, but now Moretti is flavourless pisswater. Shame.

You're kind of assuming that this guy could do a blind test and know what he's talking about
@mrchico2621
@mrchico2621 Год назад
I think it's widely acknowledged that UK-brewed "European" lager is vastly inferior to the imported equivalent from the country of origin, so there's no need for any blindfolded tests here.
@Doupyourflies
@Doupyourflies Год назад
@@mrchico2621 Why would a blindfold be required? This is beer tasting not S&M. The reason you give is exactly why it should be done blind. Simon got it wrong and his prejudice influenced the result. Both beers are brewed in Britain. A word of advice, never drink beer blindfolded. If you're tasting lagers and some are dark then you need to normalise your test; i.e. removing the dark ones and tasting them as a separate category. No blindfolds please, the eyes matter in tastings. Takes a huge ego to assume you can't be fooled by yourself.
@mrchico2621
@mrchico2621 Год назад
@@Doupyourflies You're missing the point. It's about exposing how terrible these heavily marketed "brewed under license" lagers actually are, even compared to the Aldi/Lidl knock-offs. Most people still don't realise.
@Doupyourflies
@Doupyourflies Год назад
@@mrchico2621 You can't expose how terrible these beers are because you, Simon and I and most people are prejudiced. We see UK brewed and we assume it's crap because we believe it is. Especially now we've found that since Brexit we're brewing with sewage water. It's called delusion and a lot of us prey victim to delusion, especially narcissists. So to prove we aren't prejudiced and UK brewed beers really are worse we have to taste them without any knowledge of which is which otherwise it's a deluded review.

Happens with pretty much all imported beers. The business plan is to introduce UK drinkers to the original foreign beer and once we get a taste for it, switch to a cheaply brewed UK imitation beer and hope nobody notices. Clearly many people don't notice.
@Bertie22222
@Bertie22222 Год назад
@@Coxy-b34 I don't think it's that, if you're selling enough to have it brewed in the local country and save on distribution costs, it makes sense to do so, just like cars.
@Coxy-b34
@Coxy-b34 Год назад
@@Bertie22222 Its exactly that, beers suffer from a change in recipe and a cheaper method of production and clearly taste inferior to the original. Cars would be basically the same car and getting people hooked on the original car ala beer doesn't really work in. The scenario. Bait and switch withing the beer industry is a tactic used extensively in the beer industry, especially withing the last 10 years. What other reason is there to sell beers in their original form for a matter of months then switch to UK brewed rubbish?
