A visit to Melbourne Florida to check out the birthplace , neighborhood and childhood home of Jim Morrison lead singer of The Doors . Help Fuel The Woo / adamthewoo
I live not too far & used to make daily deliveries in Melbourne... and from what I know of that place, not many people know or care that Jim was born in their town. Thank you Adam for sharing this.... I now have a better reason to drive back up there. :)
Looks like if Jim Morrison was a mural and not a person he would be known all over Melbourne. Mural after mural after mural but nothing to promote his birth town. SAD
When are you gonna stop being a shill for an evil corporation? Thought you were leaving California for good? Get back to your 90's roots. You been brainwashed, son.
You know, Woo, in the bios I'd read of Morrison, nobody mentioned his birthplace. The books just said that he was a military brat and spent his childhood moving around the country. I have been through Melbourne many times, hopping off of the interstate in search of "Old Florida". Melbourne has my favorite 7-11 in all of Florida. I'd completely missed this Jim Morrison connection, and I'm certainly a Doors fan. Thanks very much for this video! This is totally Prime Woo here :) Excellent work! Thanks for creating. Thanks for sharing. Have a beautiful day!
As soon as I start this videos, I hear the sound of cars passing by and birds in the background. I immediately relax to it, thanks Adam! Never stop exploring!
I love how you give so much more meaning to everything, so many of us would oversee so much history but you always remind us we should all explore more and appreciate the small things in life. Thank you Adam!!
Jim lived near the alameda naval base in Northern California too. My old friend named fudd knew Jim and ran the record store on Webster street back in the 80s ! Long live the lizard 👑 king
The Brevard Hall of Fame (located in Liberty Bell Memorial Museum) in Melbourne is trying to get Jim's remains moved from France for their exhibit. 6 months after he was born him and his mom moved to his grandparents (fathers side) in Clearwater. The home located at 314 N. Osceola Avenue was apparantly demolished in 2005.
My dad actually met them my dad used to work for a hotel they stayed in. My dad didn't have a ride home after his shift one night he didn't know what he was going to do when he noticed someone standing outside smoking a cigarette they struck up a conversation and the guy offered to let my dad sleep in their room so my dad agree's and they go to the room my dad walks in and there Jim Morrison sat my dad said they locked eyes his jaw hit the floor my dad was completely stunned speechless they thought my dad's reaction was funny and they all laughed about it. My dad said they were really nice to him and treated him like he was a part of their group.
Its a great song but was performed by Echo and the bunnymen in The Lost Boys. (this was a response to the now deleted statement by KCBHorrorFan that he loved the Doors after hearing People are strange in the film The lost boys).
Thats bullshit because if your dad worked for the hotel and he was stranded he could get his own help for a room without asking a random man in the shadows smoking a cigarette.
Yeah right! That would mean six people slept in a hotel room together that night (Jim, Anne, Andy, their parents & your Dad, lol). And why on earth would your father be shocked to see Jim Morrison when he was just a kid, before he became famous? What a load of B.S.!!!!
Not surprised you couldn’t find anything in Melbourne. I grew up in Melbourne, FL and never knew that Morrison had been born in Melbourne until Wikipedia came along decades later. One reason that there may be no recognition of Morrison is that for decades Melbourne, along with the rest of Brevard county, was a very transient city. People were always moving to and from the Space Coast. It was not unusual for families to move to the area because of a project with the Space Program and then move away a couple of years later. Enjoy your videos
That is a beautiful mural! Cool file cabinet system! Finally they are useful! Beautiful city art! I’m really glad they kept an original base building. Jim Morrison is such a huge American icon, I’m amazed they don’t have big signs everywhere. But then again, look what happens to his grave site. But with all that all that art, nada?! Nothing? Loved the singing, as always, Adam !
Adam, I really like how you edit silent ambient shots as transitional scenes in your movies. It creates a mindfull curious mood and easy to digest rhythm overall. I’m dutch so i hope it makes sense.
Wow, Melbourne, Florida that brings back memories. Sort of my old stoppin grounds. Went to college there, F.I.T. Also got my flight training there. Now I’m a retired corporate pilot, tells you how long ago I went there. The sad part is, until I saw this video, I had no idea Jim Morison was born there, and for enlightening me, I thank you.
Jim is my idol. Greatest frontman ever. "When the music's over turn out the lights." Thank you for this wonderful video Adam. People of that town are jerks for not recognizing the greatness of Jim. Thank thank you Adam!!!!!!
I liked all the murals, those were pretty cool. I was bummed to see that they didn't embrace Jim Morrison more. Still cool to see though. Thank you for sharing Adam!
Awesome! Thank you for this great video, i appreciate all your research, effort and dedication in all your videos. I love them all! I remember back in the sixties when my friend and i were in my Volkswagen bus driving and heard the long version of "Light my fire" the song kept going on and on and we got to laughing so hard because we'd only heard the short version of it. We didn't think it was going to end! It was So Awesome!! Back then there were very few long songs, "MacAuthur Park" was another long amazing song that came out in 1968 that we loved too that was long. Thank you Adam for this awesome video.
Thanks for trying! Loved this video! Big doors fan.....You find the best content Adam, I couldn't believe the title this morning 😍 you are amazing the way you are everywhere and are so informed on so many things. Your very impressive!
Adam! You're back! I loved the Doors! Controversial at the time...but that made him all the more alluring! Great songwriter. Riders on the Storm was my favorite Morrison song...then and now! You nailed it! Lol! Welcome home and can't wait for the next vlog, as always!
Another cracking little video from the Woo. Great to watch these from over here in the UK, fascinating stuff. Keep those adventures and videos coming ATW!
THANK YOU ! ........My wife and I are living in Miami right now, but we have our retirement home in Ocala, and will definitely travel to Melbourne to see these interesting places as a tribute to a young man who touched us all.......( I am 10 years younger than he. ).......Rest in peace James Douglas Morrison of Melbourne, Florida.....CM González, ( Sierra Cuban on You Tube ) Miami, Florida, Estados Unidos de América
Thanks Adam, great topic - and a subject I’ve been very familiar with for over 40 years...Jim Morrison was an incredibly influential and successful singer, songwriter, poet, performance artist, and believe it or not, Civil Rights activist. His body of work influences music, art and culture to this very day. I live about 30 minutes from Melbourne and yeah, it’s a complete shame that they don’t honor his legacy in some small, token way. They seem to actively distance themselves from his persona, probably due to his vehement anti-Vietnam War position in a city that profits greatly from nationally recognized, commercial brand name military/defense industry corporations. Sadly, the “Military Industrial Complex’s” money and influence extends deep into the community leadership’s thought processes about those who chose to speak out against the most senseless casualty-ridden war in my lifetime. Back in the ‘70’s, I attended Florida State University in Tallahassee, FL and when there, I found the dorm room he lived in during his brief stay on that college campus...the front door was painted as an homage to the Lizard King. It seems like the Dormitory Resident Assistants back then had the pride to acknowledge Morrison’s time there. Good times...a bit hazy, but great FSU memories... If anyone is even the most casual rock historian, they know how much of an impact Jim Morrison made on the industry. Read John Densmore’s book “Riders on the Storm: My Life with Jim Morrison.” Everything else out there (No One Here Gets Out Alive) is just 3rd person garbage...
I have been to Jim's grave in France , but never his birthplace . I go to Florida all the time to visit my family . I need to go here one of these days soon . Good video Adam .
He he...I just love your commentary on these vlogs. Yeah, we love The Doors. Jim's voice and lyrics are pure gold. Nice to stroll through his old neighborhood. Thanks, Adam.
Thanks, Adam! I attribute the lack of appreciation for Jim in Melbourne to the influence of the military there: that someone powerful, who has not gotten over Jim's opposition to Vietnam--especially embarrassing in light of his dad's role in escalating the war--absolutely refuses to see him loved or honored anywhere. Jim mentioned that he was from Melbourne at the beginning of the concert in Miami (where he didn't do what he was accused of, by the way), and always supplied the information that he was from Melbourne to the press. In that longer spoken word piece on Waiting for the Sun,_ he says _"tomorrow, I enter the town of my birth. I want to be ready." Some people say that he lived in beachside Indialantic during the trial. You'd think they would feel honored by that, but they act like jerks about him. Some people truly love, and live, to hate. Either way, it draws attention to that fact. I couldn't believe the place with the silhouettes of stars of those days, and yes: Sherlock Holmes! Such a notable omission makes itself very noticeable. The absence of any acknowledgement of Jim, eventually attracts attention to itself. You try to figure out why. Or maybe Sherlock Holmes just made a familiar, recognizable subject for a silhouette. The sculpture you showed displaced a well-loved coquina goldfish pond. So it's classy municipal art, alright, but keeping the goldfish pond would have been much classier. Melbourne seems to be set for the requisite high rise condo and hotel buildings, so it will probably not look like itself, soon, which is probably the point. By the way, I loved your trip through 8 states on the way west. I'm not at all interested in theme parks, but those videos were fascinating, poignant pieces of video, well worth the time it took to watch them. It's cool to see you cover Melbourne.
You must have been here yesterday. The weather was garbage. I'm ashamed we don't have a statue or pay homage in some way, especially downtown. Maybe I'll petition the city council...🤔
Maybe had he lived there longer, gone to school, would be a bigger deal. He probably never remembered Melbourne so they sort of chose not to remember him.
What a great video, Adam!😊 I wish, I was there. We are struggling with spring, here in southeast Michigan. 🥀 In fact, they're predicting snow late Saturday night/ early Sunday morning. 😖
I love this video Adam. This and the Liza Minnelli Manson are my favorite ❤️ thank you for everything you do. Also I've seen you twice, once at six flags and another at knotts a couple weeks ago and I was so shy to say hi. 3rd time I will say hi promise❤️
Just when I think I’m getting a Galaxies Edge update. BOOM!!! You’re on the other coast doing a Doors video. Great job Adam, way to keep me guessing. 👊🏼
Great vlog Adam! I'm quite surprised that this city didn't recognize their son, he sure put the city on the map. I'm sure that Jim Morrison had some very good points. In any event, I still wish the Doors were around and making music today!
Always fun to see my current area show up online. Melbourne, and the surrounding area (Brevard County) are seeped in history, we're much more then just NASA's spaceport. Keep up the great videos Adam!
Jim went to my college Florida State, supposedly he also lived in my dorm Kellum Hall but who knows. Thanks for posting this, I always wanted to see his house.
Hey, this is off topic from this video. But, I have been watching your videos for a couple of years now. I have really enjoyed your content . You have inspired me to start my own channel. I started about 7 months ago. my videos aren't very good . But I intend to keep doing them and hopefully getting better in the process. Just wanted to express that to you. Thank you for what you do.
Hi Adam, u didnt mention that Jim's dad was the commanding officer on the ship that was involved in the FAKE Viet Nam "Gulf of Tonka" episode which wrongly got us into the Viet Nam war! Jim was also was a friend /acquaintance of Charles Manson . He knew him from Venice Beach, Topanga Cnyn and Laurel Canyon. Cant make this stuff up.
CaliforniaPickin Another interesting tidbit is most people don’t know that his band mates Robby Krieger and Ray Manzerack served in the army in the early days of the Vietnam War , I think they met in Vietnam? And they were from military families like many other band members of so called counter culture of the time, kinda ironic hey? , or planned?
My favorite band of all time! The 🚪 Doors! “The man who comes back through the Door in the Wall will never be quite the same as the man who went out. He will be wiser but less sure, happier but less self-satisfied, humbler in acknowledging his ignorance yet better equipped to understand the relationship of words to things, of systematic reasoning to the unfathomable mystery which it tries, forever vainly, to comprehend” -Aldous Huxley
"I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." --Jesus Christ --from John 10:9-10 blb.org/niv/jhn/10/9-10/
First time watching your videos today. I thought it was very informative. Thanks for posting. (And to me, you speak very much in the same way that Ray Manzarek spoke. Cool!).
