Birthplace of the Margarita in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico - The Kentucky Club | Walking Across the Border

My brother Connor and I decided to journey across the Paso Del Norte Bridge into Mexico to seek a bar and restaurant that boasted to be the birthplace of the famous alcoholic drink - the Margarita. The Kentucky Club, located in Ciudad Juárez, a city tainted in recent years by the warring drug cartels, has been serving cocktails and cervezas to thirsty customers since it opened in 1920. This establishment claims to be the bar that created the Margarita, in fact there's a plaque cemented in the sidewalk at the front door that declares this so it must be true.
In addition to it's historic claim to fame as the birthplace of the margarita, the Kentucky Club has hosted numerous celebrities and athletes over that past century with notable patrons as John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, and Elizabeth Taylor.
My experience here at the Kentucky Club was wonderful: the margaritas were fantastic, the history was all around, the music was loud, the nightlife was fun, the people were kind, the food was authentic. I loved everything about this place and is now one of my all-time favorite bars.
Hearing about the horrible reputation of Ciudad Juarez in recent years, my brother and I took a chance and I am delighted to say that this was an incredibly positive experience in Mexico. The street of Benito Juarez that the bar is located on is just a couple blocks away from the US/Mexican border. This entire strip was full of energy - bars and nightclubs full of young people out having a good time. Any fears we had in the recesses of our minds quickly diminished and we engaged full-heartedly in the hospitality and compassion of the people in Juarez. I plan to come back and explore more of Juarez soon.
I am happy to say this is My First International Vlog!

The canal with the water is not the Rio Grande. The almost empty one is the Rio. The one with the water is the Franklin canal and is an irrigation canal.

They had some hopping dance clubs on Juarez Avenue. Sarawalks is the only one still there. Used to go to Cosmos & Freddie's bar. So much fun & plenty of tequila.
