I never knew how prevalent Catholic prejudice was until I converted to Catholicism. I find myself constantly defending my choice to be Catholic and the Church constantly. Probably my penance for persecuting the Church for all those years I was Southern Baptist. But I don't regret my decision for one minute. I may have lost many worldly things, but I have gained an eternity with Jesus and the Saints.

When I was in High School(back in the late 60s) I was not allowed in my High School Sweetheart's home because his Father hated Catholics. I remember thinking,"he doesn't even know me,how can he hate me?" I experienced prejudice because of my religion at a very young age. Eventually,my sweetheart broke up with me and I was devastated. My Mother told me that it wasn't what he wanted to do,but something that his parents forced him to do. Looking back, after all these years,I believe my Mother was right...

I am Scottish , a Catholic from a large Catholic family. This beautiful Country of mine is staunchly anti Catholic, one of the worst in the world. We are defined by bigotry, segregation and discrimination against Catholics, especially in the workforce and in sport. It is a sad reflection on those who govern us.

I understand completely. In a wonderful year in Edinburgh my wife (Episcopalian) and I (Catholic) were looked at some what askance not only because we were in a textbook ‘mixed’ marriage, but we each belonged to the ‘high churches’ respectively disliked by many Scots. Our situation was partially explained because we were Americans and we were attributed with questionable views anyway. LOL. Otherwise our time there was among the happiest in our 50 year marriage (thus far). Christmas Eve service at Grayfriar’s Kirk was simply marvelous and has remained a vivid memory all these years (decades?) since.

Sergio Milho The child abuse scandal is over blown. On the one hand we have real evil that seeks to seperate people from the Church and the sacraments by tearing down the priesthood. On the other hand a child is much, much more likely to be abused by a blended family member, a public school teacher, a coach, a neighbor, or a medical professional than a priest. But a priest is counter-cultural, politically incorrect, and an easier target. Intelligent and honest people can do the math.

Jesus Christ has ONE HEAD & ONE BODY- “the Church” (Eph 1:22-23 Eph 4:4-6. Jesus does not have ONE HEAD and 39,000+ different bodies & growing divisions. Jesus Christ has only ONE BODY & ONE BRIDE. Jesus Christ established & prayed for HIS ONE CHURCH/BRIDE in John 17:21-23 before giving all of Himself in sacrifice to His ONE BRIDE as “the Bridegroom” (Isaiah 61:10, John 3:29, Matthew 9:15, Matthew 25:6-13, Mark 2:19, Luke 5:34-35).

All my life I have been persecuted for being Catholic. From my earliest years I was constrained by the anti Catholic establishment. That means, restrictions on where you could be educated and later where you could work and what position you could hold in society. I am from Scotland and my country is the United Kingdom, yet I cannot be the PM, DPM or King, being Catholic automatically prohibits you from those positions. Institutional and constitutional bigotry, hatred as well as subjugation is prolific. But that all changes if you give up your faith and become a transgender LGBT supporter or activist. Christ Suffered for us and He told us, the world hates me and so shall they hate you too! Keep the Faith and pray for your enemies, never be subjugated and never lose heart. After years of trying and very many prayers I worked internationally, particularly for American companies and attained high office within those organisations. I would never have got passed first base in any British Company because of my background. Therefore, in my experience you really don't have it that bad. I am not saying it's not difficult, but everything is relative. Keep the Faith and Trust in Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Chastidy is Virtually enforced on you, wether you want it or not. Good Catholics they really have no idea . All these people here saying that Catholicism is evil and wrong... Why would Satan be trying so much harder to lead Catholics astray (all the scandals, for instance) if they didn't belong to God's one true Church? Otherwise he wouldn't even have to bother. Not looking for an argument, just wondering why nobody else seems to have thought of this.

chef william Gibson That isn't true, you should do actual research before spewing nonsense. The Catholic church has not killed 50-100million people. The entire population of Europe during the inquisition era was 90million only. So by your statistics the church killed all of Europe lol. Also you should look into what the context of not calling someone father means. Because one of the commandments is "honor your FATHER and mother". This is the issue with not knowing context of scripture. Also you say the catholic church is evil but who's the ones accepting gay marriage and wedding gay couples? Protestant churches. Also protestant pastors are rolling around in nice cars and mansions telling their congregations to give to their ministry and God will bless them financially. Also in protestant churches it's watered down. It's all mushy gushy about the relationship with Christ except on everyones own terms, not actually how you would have one with the most High God. Drinking coffee and getting all amped up to concert style songs and bands is nice and all but you really think that's what true worship to God is? You should look into the writings of the early Christians, like Ignatious.

chef william Gibson I'm not going to continue this any further because you're just stating nonsense. Hitler hated the catholic church and Christians in general. Many were thrown into concentration camps for protecting Jews and not swearing complete allegiance to Hitler. Also ww1 was caused by the assassination of Duke Ferdinand of Austria by a Serbian nationalist and then due to the alliance system other nations all sided with either Serbia or Austriohungary. You seem to have this blind hatred towards the catholic church to the point where you're believing nonsense. The church didn't kill 100million people. Like I said, the population of Europe wasnt even 100million at those times. Also at the council of nicea in 325AD the catholic church put the bible together so you're welcome for that. And it was Martin Luther actually who took out the deutercanoncle books and even wanted to take out the book of James. You need to do actual research, not get into from websites that hate the church and speak a bunch of nonsense. Also read the writings of the early Christians and you'll see that the catholic church truly is the church from the beginning.

It makes things really easy for the anti Catholics when our current President is “Catholic.” If evangelicals realized they had lots in common with real Catholics on virtually all social issues then there would be some reconciliation. I find it really ironic however to have two bible thumping uncles who were both baptized Catholic, now evangelicals, be vitriolic and accusatory towards my family for our faith when I have never discriminated an evangelical in my life. Thank you Father for this wonderful video. I was raised in a Protestant Church, The Evangelical and Reformed (which is no more) which was anti Catholic but not nearly anti Catholic as many other Denominations. I became Catholic when I was 27 after going to Mass with a Catholic who asked me to. There when I was not going up for the Eucharist as I was Protestant Jesus asked me 3 times, "Al, would you refuse me?" and soon after that I became Catholic. I just say that to share my Protestant background. I think the anti Catholic prejudice stems from when the Protestants broke away from the Catholic Church and the incredible hostility at that time between the 2 groups which continues. Also at about the same time the philosophy of materialism began to take precedence in the country and is confirmed by the fact that materialistic science has attained religious status in this country and all of the Western world. The rituals of the Mass are seen as nonsense as also the Spiritual world is seen as nonsense.

The belief is that the priest has invoked a spirit in the stone. And I always thought if they can believe that surely the spirit of Jesus can be invoked to reside in a piece of bread. The beliefs are parallel. Albert, I like you was raised Lutheran but it took me much longer, I was drawn to the Catholic church but it took me to the age of 56 before I became Catholic . I have to say that I now know the beauty and grace that God gives us at Mass. I used to go to church not on a regular basis but I would go when I felt the need. I cannot even imagine that now, I never miss Mass unless I am extremely ill. I look forward to going to Mass the beauty of being with God in his church is one thing but as you said the wonderful feeling of receiving Christ's Body and Blood in the Eucharist is so amazing it is beyond what I can explain. I do have to say though that since I have become Catholic I for the first time have experienced Catholic prejudice and it shocks me. From family that asks, "Why Catholic for heaven sakes?" I try to explain but I fear I don't do it justice, Oh if they only knew.

I love the fact we have people from Africa, India, Asia , etc. No other church in the world can do this this, only the true church, The Catholic church ! Discimination is real and I know that coming from an Irish Catholic family. Anti Catholic predudice is still here today and comes from a sense of regret that they broke away from the true church, they know it. Saying that there are amazing priest`s like Rowan Williams ( Anglican) who is a true man of God and is above the negative politics that exsist and I consider him a Catholic priest in all truth.

To people who are prejudice about the Catholics no matter what Fr.Barron will explain to you about the teachings of the Catholic faith because you are prejudice you will always find fault. Jesus Christ did not tell his apostles that his church will be perfect because it is going to be lead by imperfect human beings starting from the 12 apostles they are sinners too. Find any church that is perfect or did not commit any sin. Also to the lady that do not understand the gospel is that every Catholic is to study the Bible, read the teachings of the great fathers of the church. To love & serve God is to know him. .

***** Catholics are born again the Bible way. | Jesus answered and said to him (Nicodemus), “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born, can he?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of WATER and the SPIRIT he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. (John 3:3-5) | How do we get born again? By water and spirit. God begins new things with water and spirit. In the first to verses of the Bible it said, "In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth, and the Earth was formless and void, and the WATER covered the surface of the deep, and the SPIRIT of God hovered over the waters." That was the world's CREATION. In the Jews' mind, Noah is the second Adam because God wiped out the Earth and started it over again. What is hovering over the Ark with an olive branch in it's mouth? A dove, which represents the Holy Spirit of God. With the Ark hovering over the water, with a dove over top. The Earth was BORN AGAIN. God renews with WATER AND SPIRIT. This isn't made up, because in (1 Peter 3:18-21) it says, "when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water. Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you" In Exodus, the Pharaoh persecutes the Christians. Pharaoh represents the Devil, Egypt represents the world, and slavery represents sin. These are the three enemies of the Christian, the Devil, the world, and sin. God delivers the Israelites with the Passover lamb then takes them through the Red Sea. They go up through the WATER, and what is on top of them leading the way? A pillar of fire by night and a pillar of cloud by day. The Holy SPIRIT of God over the WATER. God saves them from the enemy, and what is the new thing He starts? The nation of Israel. Every time God starts something, it is with WATER AND SPIRIT. In (Ezekiel 36:25) it says, "I will sprinkle you with clean WATER. I will put a new SPIRIT within you. For what purpose? That you may obey my laws." The New Covenant will look like WATER AND SPIRIT. Jesus was baptized by John and He went down into the WATER, and the SPIRIT came down. Jesus goes into Jerusalem, and everybody goes down to go to see John. Everyone knew he had gone into the WATER and that the SPIRIT had come down. Baptism is how we are born again, and baptism is the initial initiation into the Catholic Church. | ‘Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.’ | (Acts 22:16) We are born by water and spirit my friend.

***** I just quoted from the Bible. I pray multiple times daily, thanking Him for what blessings I have received. Before you judge something you do not know about, I politely ask you please look at this from a non-biased perspective. I have looked at both sides and I still have found the Catholic Church to be most truthful. Best of all, the promise of eternal life is a gift, freely offered to us by God (CCC 1727). Our initial forgiveness and justification are not things we "earn" (CCC 2010). Jesus is the mediator who bridged the gap of sin that separates us from God (1 Tim. 2:5); he bridged it by dying for us. He has chosen to make us partners in the plan of salvation (1 Cor. 3:9). The Catholic Church teaches what the apostles taught and what the Bible teaches: We are saved by grace alone, but not by faith alone (which is what "Bible Christians" teach; see Jas. 2:24). When we come to God and are justified (that is, enter a right relationship with God), nothing preceding justification, whether faith or good works, earns grace. But then God plants his love in our hearts, and we should live out our faith by doing acts of love (Gal. 6:2). Even though only God’s grace enables us to love others, these acts of love please him, and he promises to reward them with eternal life (Rom. 2:6-7, Gal. 6:6-10). Thus good works are meritorious. When we first come to God in faith, we have nothing in our hands to offer him. Then he gives us grace to obey his commandments in love, and he rewards us with salvation when we offer these acts of love back to him (Rom. 2:6-11, Gal. 6:6-10, Matt. 25:34-40). Jesus said it is not enough to have faith in him; we also must obey his commandments. "Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ but do not do the things I command?" (Luke 6:46, Matt. 7:21-23, 19:16-21). We do not "earn" our salvation through good works (Eph. 2:8-9, Rom. 9:16), but our faith in Christ puts us in a special grace-filled relationship with God so that our obedience and love, combined with our faith, will be rewarded with eternal life (Rom. 2:7, Gal. 6:8-9). Paul said, "God is the one who, for his good purpose, works in you both to desire and to work" (Phil. 2:13). John explained that "the way we may be sure that we know him is to keep his commandments. Whoever says, ‘I know him,’ but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him" (1 John 2:3-4, 3:19-24, 5:3-4). Since no gift can be forced on the recipient-gifts always can be rejected-even after we become justified, we can throw away the gift of salvation. We throw it away through grave (mortal) sin (1 John 5:16, Rom. 11:22-23, 1 Cor. 15:1-2; CCC 1854-1863). Paul tells us, "The wages of sin is death" (Rom. 6:23). Read his letters and see how often Paul warned Christians against sin! He would not have felt compelled to do so if their sins could not exclude them from heaven (see, for example, 1 Cor. 6:9-10, Gal. 5:19-21). Paul reminded the Christians in Rome that God "will repay everyone according to his works: eternal life for those who seek glory, honor, and immortality through perseverance in good works, but wrath and fury to those who selfishly disobey the truth and obey wickedness" (Rom. 2:6-8). Sins are nothing but evil works (CCC 1849-1850). We can avoid sins by habitually performing good works. Every saint has known that the best way to keep free from sins is to embrace regular prayer, the sacraments (the Eucharist first of all), and charitable acts.

***** The Bible isn't Satan's lies. It is God's Word. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, His only Son Our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into Heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God, the Father almighty; from thence He shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body and life everlasting. Amen. As Christians we are taught to spread the Gospel. If you believe what you believe is true, then why do you not share it with me? Please, answer me instead of simply avoiding the Scripture passages I have offered you. You and I both know that the Bible is God's divinely inspired Word. If you do not agree with what I have shown you from Scripture, why is that? It's just a simple discussion that I would like to have with a fellow Christian. Brother, please reply using Scripture if possible.

A reading of history is necessary before condemning Catholicism. Now every 300 sentences in Bible are given a new interpretation giving birth to a new church every ten years. Catholic church debates ideas for decades/centuries before making any changes in dogma

There is some historical precedent for the continuing ‘anti-popism’. Of the original 13 colonies, only three had freedom of religion: Pennsylvania, started by a Quaker; Rhode Island, started by a Protestant; and Maryland started by a Catholic. Several of the Southern States -VA, the Carolinas, Georgia were staunchly Episcopalian / Anglican. Massachusetts was ‘Puritan’ having grievances against Episcopalian as well Catholicism. There was a relatively short time between HenryVIII and the founding of the American colonies so the memories of those religious wars, Mary, Queen of Scots, the destruction or conversion of Catholic Churches and Cathedrals and xo on remained vibrant. The continuation of the denigrating term WASP - white Anglo-Saxon Protestant - lingered / lingers into the present. It occurs to me that the two examples you so brilliantly discuss are but a continuation of a subtle but prevalent thread in our history. To be sure ‘anti-papism’ resides elsewhere but it seems more egregious here in the land of the 1st Amendment.

I find it interesting that a lot of Protestants assume that Catholics worship the Pope. To make matters clear, Catholics do not and are discouraged from worshiping saints, the Pope, or the Apostles. Such action is considered in the Church to be heretical and missing the point entirely. It is one thing to ask for them to pray for you (which all Christians, both Catholic and Protestant, do often) it is quite another to prostrate yourself and pray TO the saints. Which is common in the cult of Santeria, which declares itself separate from Christianity and Catholicism entirely. Secondly, it is okay to disagree with the Pope so long as such teachings and ideas do not fly in the face of Christian teaching and Catholic Cannon i.e. reincarnation, deification of planet Earth etc. So, to sum it all up, Catholics are not the Pope's personal army of marching yes men", I hope this clears things up for you, Allen Maurer.

All these hateful comments,...are you walking down the path of a true Christian? Down the path of righteousness? Indeed you are not. Perhaps all you who oppose the Catholic Church should start a church based off your own personal interpretation of scripture. Then when one of your flock disagrees with your teachings then he or she shall go and start their own church based off their interpretation. It's a revolving door with every Protestant Church that continues to divide the true Christian faith into more and more disunity.

Well said, Father Barron! For what it's worth, here's a combination book review/op-ed piece I wrote on the same subject which the Charlotte Observer saw fit to publish in its entirety a few years ago: THE NEW ANTI-CATHOLICISM: THE LAST ACCEPTABLE PREJUDICE, by Philip Jenkins Anti-Catholicism is “the deepest bias in the history of the American people.” - Arthur Schlesinger Sr. If you’re a Catholic, perhaps you’ve been confronted by a scene similar to this: In the checkout line of my local supermarket, a silver-haired gentleman in a tweed jacket strikes up a conversation to pass the time. He is a retired English professor, I learn. In the course of the conversation, I happen to let it drop that I’m a convert to Catholicism. Suddenly, his demeanor changes. “I believe the Catholic Church is the most evil institution in the history of Western civilization,” he says. “It is a religion for third-world people, full of ignorance and superstition.” Then, the coup de grace: “How could you join an institution that has bred those hideous creatures, the pedophile priests?” Having grown up a W.A.S.P., I had never been on the receiving end of such textbook bigotry. So I couldn’t help wondering: What could possibly cause someone of this man’s intellectual caliber to consider such behavior acceptable? And why are different shades of the same prejudice so widely tolerated throughout American culture---from the universities to the news media to the arts? Perhaps no author has written a more meticulously researched and elegantly reasoned explanation than Philip Jenkins, Distinguished Professor at Penn State. (Jenkins left the Church in the 1980s “without any particular rancor” to become an Episcopalian.) To begin with, Jenkins explains, anti-Catholicism is a hoary American tradition- our republic was principally a Protestant creation, after all. He posits that historically, this “last acceptable prejudice” has reared its ugly head in America in two major waves: a) The older anti-Catholicism, which was a 19th century working-class phenomenon, prevalent among nativists. b) The new anti-Catholicism, which is largely a disease of the cultural elite and has grown in virulence ever since the issuance of Humanae Vitae in 1968, the papal encyclical rejecting birth control. Until this watershed moment, Jenkins notes, American liberalism and Catholicism marched shoulder to shoulder in many noble causes: in support of labor unions, the civil rights movement and welfare programs; against capital punishment and war. Interestingly, none of the church’s stances on these matters have changed. What has changed since the ‘60s, Jenkins makes clear, is American liberalism, which has increasingly become obsessed with abortion, gender issues, contraception and gay rights. It is the church’s refusal to bend on these matters which has made her the object of so much vituperation. To be sure, with their almost criminal mishandling of the child sex abuse scandals, some in the hierarchy have given the church’s enemies ample ammunition with which to bloody her. But it is in his deft treatment of this emotionally-charged matter that Jenkins renders perhaps his greatest service: helping to distinguish between legitimate criticism and outright bigotry. “[I]t is quite legitimate to attack an individual or an institution, even if these are religious in nature. It is a quite different matter to say that some essential features of that religion give rise to evil or abuse and that the evil cannot be prevented without fundamentally changing the beliefs or practices of the religion.” It might surprise some readers - including some Catholics - that criticism of corrupt clergymen is actually a venerable Catholic tradition. (For proof, read Dante’s Inferno.) Thus, most thinking Catholics have no real quarrel with the Boston Globe’s laudable work on the New England scandals. What Catholics find reprehensible is the lack of context and proportionality in so many stories reported by the major media. For example, have you ever read in this newspaper that 70 incidences of child sexual abuse are reported [BEGIN ITALICS] every week [END ITALICS] in America’s Protestant churches? (Most of the alleged abusers are not clergy or staff, but church volunteers. Cf. Christian Science Monitor, April 5, 2002) It might also surprise you that pedophilia is just as prevalent among married men as it is among celibate priests. (Jenkins’ estimation of the percentage of American priests guilty of abuse is 2 to 3%.) Yet the media have given the impression that child sexual abuse is a uniquely Roman Catholic problem, rather than a catholic or universal one. Here’s Jenkins on why this occurred: “[T]he disproportionate reaction to the clergy abuse issue, the suggestions of pervasive criminality, cannot be understood except as a reflection of accumulated political grievances over other issues, often involving sexuality and gender. Every interest group with an axe to grind now used the ‘pedophile crisis’ as the grounds for unrestrained frontal attacks on …fundamental aspects of Catholic belief.” But the American media’s regrettable treatment of the scandals is only a small part of Jenkins’ remarkable book. He shines a light on other wellsprings of anti-Catholic bigotry as well. In the chapters entitled “The Church Hates Women” and “The Church Kills Gays,” he shows how disagreements with the church’s doctrines are consistently escalated into broader anti-Catholic attacks. (A classic example: When in 1992 the Church spoke out against gay rights legislation, The Nation headlined its report “Pope Backs Hate Crimes.”) And in his chapter “Black Legends” Jenkins exposes the “facts” that everyone seemingly “knows” about historical events like the Crusades and the Inquisition for what they are: mostly gross distortions or lies. He concludes with this sobering reflection: “Anti-Catholic sentiment may simply be too deeply entrenched to eliminate in a decade or a lifetime, but this does not mean that it should simply be ignored. The greatest single achievement might be to acknowledge its existence and to treat it as a form of prejudice quite as pernicious as any other…In the news media especially, it would be wonderful if writers dealing with Catholic themes would examine their work just long enough to see if they were recycling ancient stereotypes, in much the same way they should if writing about Jews, blacks, or other…groups. Otherwise, Catholics will continue to be subjected to a particularly blatant double standard.”

Protestant Christians treat the teachings of Christ like all-you-can-eat buffet where you can pick and choose the parts of Christianity which you like and disregard the parts you don't. Now I know why people that were once Catholic convert to Protestantism, it's easy worship. The way I see it, you either believe ALL the teachings of Christ or none at all. With a Protestant Christian if they don't like their denomination they'll just jump ship and go to another of over 30,000 denominations. They can be "worship" conveniently all while coming off as "followers" of Christ.

90% of the time when you hear the first amendment to the constitution cited, it's referred to as "separation of church and state" as it forbids laws that 'respect establishments of religion', but it then says 'or prohibiting the free exercise thereof'. It could just as easily be called the amendment protecting religion from the state instead of separating religion from the state. It's analagous to when people say the the government is funding a program or group of people just because it doesn't take away as much taxes as it could. Not taking something away is not the same as giving something. Not taking away someone's rights is not the same as granting them new rights.

I believe that the Catholic Church is the fullness of the one, holy catholic and apostolic Church. Yet, I also see in America the rise of a form of Catholicism that is heretical (in the true sense of the word: picking and choosing certain emphases from among the whole apostolic faith, to the exclusion or denial of the rest) and could eventually become a schism -- an American Catholic Church. The central issues will of course initially be moral ones (principally, the definition and sanctity of human life; the nature of marriage). These central issues will reveal a broad schism between secularist naturalists and those who believe in a transcendent God and His victorious Kingdom.

For he that is not against us is for us” (Mark 9:38-40). I may not see eye to eye with my fellow Christians on everything, but like the man that cast out demons in Jesus name that had a different knowledge of Jesus, I see my Catholic family in Christ do mighty work for The Kingdom in the name of "our" Lord and Savior.

I am a great admirer of yours, Fr. Barron. I own several of your dvd's including the whole Catholicism package. Your 3 lectures on Newman are great and I have listened to them numerous time. You have answered many questions for me, but I have one more. Why in the world doesn't the Cardinal Archbishop of New York tell this guy Cuomo that the front pew is closed and he needs to stop bringing his girlfriend to Mass, and if he does come, not to present himself for communion? Cuomo is inimical to Jesus and the Catholic faith, if he's not an apostate I don't know how one qualifies.

I was not a practicing Catholic for a long time, not because of public pressure but of my own free will, which turned out to be a bad decision on my part. Anyway, during that time, when I would refer to myself as a lapsed or "recovering" Catholic I would hear all sorts of anti-Catholic rhetoric, everything from we are all a bunch of idolater's worshiping statues to we are a cult who bow to Rome and pray to dead people. The most disturbing anti-Catholic noise comes from the doomsday types who claim the Pope is the Anti-Christ and the Beast is the Catholic Church. I never put any stock in any of that nonsense but I should have defended the faith better than I did. I will now. It's nice to be home and I'm never leaving again.

Growing up under protestant influence I was told that Catholics believe that they have to earn salvation by doing good works. This was contrasted with the protestant message that salvation is God's free gift of grace to those who have faith in Christ. I'm not quite sure what the Catholic church's actual position is on this subject.

Read James 2 in any bible he talks about faith by works. Faith alone is dead. Also if a Protestant earns salvation by faith than why can’t a Catholic in a Protestant view not have salvation the whole Catholic Church is about Jesus Christ. Catholics have a very strong faith in Jesus.

I also noticed you did not have anything to say abt the info I gave you last night. So sad you just seem to want to try and argue. Maybe some day God will bless you with the gift of true faith. By the way the 12 Apostles spoke Hebrew as well as Aramaic, Latin, and Greek (which is why Pilate posted the sign on the cross in Latin, Greek, and Hebrew) like every other inhabitant of Roman Palestine. When the first editions of the New Testament did come out along with the Septuagint (the Greek translation of the Old Testament) the name Jesus came out as Yeshua, Iesous, and Iesus, and later as the modern name of Jesus. So, either way, the name Jesus, or Iesous or Yeshua would be correct depending on where or what time period you are from.

That a man of such a stature can say a thing like that is a sign on the wall. Many have lost the way of common sens, have been conditioned to not even reflect about it but simply reject it, and are now stirred to hatred. Now this is a very serious matter. A man like that should be judged, but he is more likely to judge. Do we realise the seriousness of this growing attitude amongst our political leaders or should i say pre-facist? It is surely more appropriate.

Ephesians 2:8 for by grace are ye saved by faith, it is a gift of God, NOT OF WORKS, lest any man should boast.". Paul in Acts is asked "what shall we do to be saved", and Paul replied "believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shall be saved" believe and put all your trust in the Lord.

Show me where in the Catechism, the official teaching of the Catholic Church, does it teach that we can “work” our way into Heaven? You can’t, because it doesn’t. The Catholic Church does not now, nor has it ever, taught a doctrine of salvation by works...that we can “work” our way into Heaven. Second, show me where in the Bible does it teach that we are saved by “faith alone.” You can’t, because it doesn’t. The only place in all of Scripture where the phrase “Faith Alone” appears, is in James...James 2:24, where it says that we are not...not...justified (or saved) by faith alone. So, one of the two main pillars of Protestantism...the doctrine of salvation by faith alone...not only doesn’t appear in the Bible, but the Bible actually says the exact opposite - that we are not saved by faith alone. If works have nothing to do with salvation...how come so many passages in the N.T. that talk about judgment say we will be judged by our works, not by whether or not we have faith alone?

Rom 2, Matthew 15 and 16, 1 Ptr 1, Rev 20 and 22, 2 Cor 5, and many, many more verses. why does 1 Cor 13:13 say that love is greater than faith? Shouldn’t it be the other way around? As Catholics we believe that we are saved by God’s grace alone. We can do nothing, apart from God’s grace, to receive the free gift of salvation. We also believe, however, that we have to respond to God’s grace. Protestants believe that, too. However, many Protestants believe that the only response necessary is an act of faith; whereas, Catholics believe a response of faith and works is necessary.

Rome does teach works salvation, it's called sacraments, and the idea of praying people out of the Roman lesser hell called purgatory. Also James in his epistle is speaking in the eyes of man. Roman 4:1-9 clearly, says no one is justified by works in the eyes of God. Jesus said to "build treasures in heaven", those treasures are the works all believers will receive. All will receive according to their works. Salvation is by grace through faith. Romans 4 says "he that worketh not, but believeth on him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted for rightousness" it's not only talking about "the law", like some deluded folks would say, because it mentions Abraham who walked with God by faith long before the law.

Your same authoritative cathetism teaches anyone can go to heaven, and are judged by their "conscience". Scripture says Jesus Christ, and faith in him is the only way. Do Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhist, or Catholicism teach Jesus is the only way? No. Your "cathetism" teaches that they don't believe the bible, in fact it's completely contrary to it..............“841 The Church’s relationship with the Muslims. “The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind’s judge on the last day.”330 842 The Church’s bond with non-Christian religions is in the first place the common origin and end of the human race: All nations form but one community. This is so because all stem from the one stock which God created to people the entire earth, and also because all share a common destiny, namely God. His providence, evident goodness, and saving designs extend to all against the day when the elect are gathered together in the holy city. . . .331 843 The Catholic Church recognizes in other religions that search, among shadows and images, for the God who is unknown yet near since he gives life and breath and all things and wants all men to be saved. Thus, the Church considers all goodness and truth found in these religions as “a preparation for the Gospel and given by him who enlightens all men that they may at length have life.”332 844 In their religious behavior, however, men also display the limits and errors that disfigure the image of God in them: Very often, deceived by the Evil One, men have become vain in their reasonings, and have exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and served the creature rather than the Creator. Or else, living and dying in this world without God, they are exposed to ultimate despair.333 845 To reunite all his children, scattered and led astray by sin, the Father willed to call the whole of humanity together into his Son’s Church. The Church is the place where humanity must rediscover its unity and salvation. The Church is “the world reconciled.” She is that bark which “in the full sail of the Lord’s cross, by the breath of the Holy Spirit, navigates safely in this world.” According to another image dear to the Church Fathers, she is prefigured by Noah’s ark, which alone saves from the flood.334 “Outside the Church there is no salvation” 846 How are we to understand this affirmation, often repeated by the Church Fathers?335 Re-formulated positively, it means that all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body: Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition, the Council teaches that the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: the one Christ is the mediator and the way of salvation; he is present to us in his body which is the Church. He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism, and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.336 847 This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church: Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience-those too may achieve eternal salvation.337 848 “Although in ways known to himself God can lead those who, through no fault of their own, are ignorant of the Gospel, to that faith without which it is impossible to please him, the Church still has the obligation and also the sacred right to evangelize all men.”338”

ANY TROUBLE DON´T GET SOLUTIONS GETTING THE FAULTS TO ANOTHER IF NOT RECOGNIZED OUR OWN WAY TO HELP OTHERS, SO IF THEY CAN´T SEE NOTHING. WHEN WE START HELPING GOD HELP US TO HELP, WHEN WE WISH THINGS AND CAN´T FORGIVE OR FORGET WE CAN´T PRAY TO OUR FATHER, CAUSE THE PRAY SAYS FORGIVE OUR OFFENSES AS WE ALSO FORGIVE THOSE WHO OFFEND US AND NOT BEING RECONCILATED WITH OUR FATHER GOD, THE RESENTMENT BECOMES GREAT AND INSTEAD OF BEING FRUIT WE ARE FILLED WITH THORNS
