What does segwit mean?
If you have ever transferred Bitcoin you will have seen the term SegWit or Native Segwit - But what does it mean? Segregated Witness (SegWit) is a technical improvement made to the Bitcoin network in 2017 that changed the way certain data is stored in each Bitcoin transaction.
Before SegWit, some of the data in each transaction, called "witness data," was included in the block size limit, which caused some problems with scalability and transaction speed.
SegWit moved the witness data outside of the block size limit, allowing for more transactions to be included in each block and making the network faster and more efficient.
In addition to improving scalability, SegWit also enabled new features the most notable being the Lightning Network
