Dan and I were on the way to a favourite spot, a beautiful ancient forest in the SE of England when we decided to leave the tents behind and to do a sub zero bivvy camp. We picked up a bivvy for me on the way and just went for it.
Testing out a new Mil-Tec Bivvy and Robens Campground 50, both bought for subzero winter camping. Spoiler alert: The bivvy was warm and dry but the condensation makes it a big problem and not something to recommend. The Robens Campground 50 was excellent, comfortable and warm, just big and heavy and comes in a stupid red bag.
Also lots of pyro fun, with coloured wildfire in the campfire and my homemade torch...plus some firelighting experiments....
All this and more :)

Great video - don't try this at home kids..... Or at all 😂😂 . My wood/wax cubes lasted roughly 30 minutes but weren't contained so did get a waxy blob on the floor after clearing the fire. Still grinning (inappropriately) picturing the panic when the gas can lit up. Many thanks again for the great content. Edit - my memory must be as bad as I think it is as I lit one today as a test and they (the ice cube tray wax and wood shavings) burn for 5 minutes NOT 30 .

I know about the miltec bivvybags m8 there not breathable at all they should be taken off the shelves you be wet through every time, I use the British army bivvybag no zip I know but makes it fully waterproof used them years and not let me down, the original us mss also is goretex like mine and very good wouldn’t recommend anything else for durability, breath ability and waterproof 👍

Glad you said it 😃 I have a Carinthia surplus bivy and the quality is impressive. 20 ys. old, but still in great shape and the Gore-tex is quite breathable. Mil-tec isn't considered a very good brand.

The Mil-Tec Bivvy is good, but if you can get a russian one (RATNIK BIVY BAG), you will be good. The sponje/self infating mat is good foi isolation. The Savotta Sleeping Pad is from heaven. Check that.
