Vulnicura next. That album is insane

I was 17 in 1995 when this came out. Used to listen to it on my walkman as i rode to work on my bike. That summer was amazing. I wore that tape out. Still an amazing album.

Bjork has some great music videos across her classic period (1993-2001). Isobel is part of a trilogy that includes Human Behaviour and Bachelorette. The jazzy touches across Bjork's albums aren't that strange when you consider Gling Glo (1990) the Icelandic Jazz album Bjork made before Debut. I'd suggest Selmasongs, Fossora, and Volta next. Then her more experimental albums. Vulnicura and perhaps Utopia are the strongest from that group. Medulla has some bops: Triumph of a Heart, Oceania, Where Is the Line, and Mouth's Cradle. Biophilia is my least favorite album save for Virus (sublime), Crystalline (lead single), and Hollow (Stravinsky's Rite of Spring).

I go through all this before you wake up so I can feel happier to be SAFE up here with you. Beautiful and HEARTBREAKING at the same time. By FAR Bjork's best album.

This album was early on in Bjork’s career, and she was still new to the scene. She was making friends with other artists, and collecting inspiration and ideas like a kid in a candy store. It’s pretty endearing. This album will always have a place in my rotation, even though Vespertine and Homogenic are my faves.

Bjork has said that after working with one collaborator on Debut she wanted to open things up and collaborate with lots of different people from different places and backgrounds (like "post-cards" from different places), which is probably the "scattershot" feeling you get from it. I do think it's all tied together well, with the horns on three different tracks, and "Headphones" (my favorite!) talking about a mixtape. "It's Oh So Quiet" is my least favorite because it's a cover and just doesn't fit genre-wise on what is otherwise an almost entirely electronic album. This is my second fave Bjork album after Homogenic. You seemed a little down/tired, so hopefully it will grow on you with more listens. Regarding Vespertine, I've noticed that people who discover Bjork with that album tend to cite it as her best or their favorite. Don't get me wrong, it's top 3 or 4 for me, but I've just noticed that pattern. Also, Madonna/Ray of Light maybe sometime? 🌟

I do think there's something to be said for listening to a record without looking at the lyrics the first time around. That way song structure is much less predictable and I think songs can be much more surprising. Case in point being Hyperballad which builds beautifully but that's lost if you know how it will progress (from a lyrical perspective).

i think sometimes you get too stuck on genius. that site is not even that reliable, trusting ur instincts abt music pretty much always better imo

I hope Isobel grows on you. It's one of my favourite Björk songs.

Men, You need to react to The Cure album "desintegration" everytime i listen it it tauch me deeo inside. So amazing experience

It's a solid album. slowly and slowly Isobel's darkness will capture you. It took a while to grow on me

I know this could be because of your eye pain, but cutting down the RU-vid video for an album like Post to 17 min. is kinda disappointing...

I recommend Medulla or Vulnicura

This was Björk in 1995. Pop Björk if you will. All artists meshed different genres in their albums during this time. She did the same. You just had to be there.

I actually didn’t like this album when I first heard it. I thought it lacked cohesiveness which I still think but overall it has grown on me a lot.
