Honestly I think he was just trying to show respect. I don’t think BJ’s afraid of anyone. Especially if he’s stepping into a school why would he be afraid?
I used to train at Ralph’s in sf. I rolled w bj once when I was a white belt. We looked up to mt view guys like bj, Dave, Dan, etc. who were always crushing it in tournaments. I remember someone (Troy) told me “bj is going to be one of the best in the world..” even when he was a blue belt...
I'm soooo happy to see this. Its ALWAYS great to see fighters (and people in general) remember their roots and where they came from. Especially after seeing a clip a few years back with Ralph calling BJ a snake (probably more because he was upset BJ wanted to fight Renzo then actually believing it). BJ is an mma GOD so for him to show so much respect for Ralph just shows how amazing Ralph must be.
Seemed like here was a feeling of bad blood that had grown cold. Seemed that way to me, at least. Like an estranged father and son, or something. The beauty is that no one will reject authentic and sincere respect, no matter the history. Seems like BJ almost got choked up afterward, like positive closure.
+MrBoommer1 true. Ralph's son, just a little kid, had cancer. Last I heard, I think he survived the cancer. So yes, Ralph has way more serious issues to worry about than BJ's "loyalty" to his school. Plus, they're both older now. Holding grudges forever can take a lot out of you.
BJ : Hey Ralph it's BJ Ralph : * awkward silence * hello BJ......can I speak to Machine Machine: Hello Ralph Ralph: WTF you doing letting that 🐍 in the gym
Yes. Justin "Machine" Holder. He earned the nickname because he was a training machine, would roll with everyone and just kept going, multiple classes a day and every day of the week. He runs the Mountain View academy now. A great instructor...."The Machine!"
Rorion, Relson, Rickson, Rolker, Royler, Royce, Robin, Robson, Reyson, Reylson, Rosley, Rolls, Rocian, Rilion, Renzo, Ralph, Ryan, Rockson, Ryron, Rener, Ralek, Reylan, Roran, Renen, Ricon and Rolles. A lot of Gracies' names begin with "R". Carlos and Helio felt the letter "R" was a "strong" and "mystical" letter. They also try to make up UNIQUE names. They feel if you have a common name, your personality might be influenced by someone else in the past with the same name. Example: "Rorion" = "R" + "Orion"(the space constellation). Rorion left Brazil to go to America and become an actor. He wanted to be a movie STAR(get it? Stars make up a constellation.) While his acting career didn't take off as he had hoped, he successfully made Jiu-Jitsu FAMOUS(like a Hollywood STAR) thru Royce's success in his creation of the UFC. Rorion's son Rener = "R" + INNER strength. R+Inner(ener)= Rener. Rener seems very intelligent and well spoken(inner strength).
don't challenge your instructor's brother unless that brother is a rat bastard who slept with your instructor's wife, and Renzo would never do that to Ralph
Potmon oh, that's cuz BJ called out Cesar at some point in his career after Ralph put so much time and effort training BJ. Ralph later referred to BJ as a traitor cuz he went against the family. BJ hasn't forgotten it, Ralph might have forgiven BJ, but he hasn't forgotten either
@@gennadigevorgyan4867 Oh okay, i never knew about this. Thanks for sharing. I was watching the Renzo Gracie documentary the other day (its called legacy if you're interested). And in that doc, they speak about BJ calling out Renzo, and you see them fight.
Bj penn prime was a top 5 goat.. But the game has evolved and the age is more athletic.. U cant just get up off the couch doing nothing and expect to keep up w the young lions/newbreed. Bj should fight cm punk, he would maul him.. But what if punk hail mary beats him.. Lose lose situation lol. #goat
+Grozithrar Wookie bj has 1 win in his last 7 fights. hes 16-10, not very impressive compared to others. hes lost 3 times to edgar, yet nobody sees edgar as better (which he clearly is). bj changed weight classes to much, was always out of shape, always gassed out. hes a product of doing bjj before it caught on as a mandatory skill. hes above average at best
+Kevin Hall you dummy. He's a natural 145er that became lightweight champ and beat a 170lb champ matt hughes ( who was then considered invincible and the best welterweight ever) in his prime and whooped the greatest welterweight ever in gsp. Bj whooped st. Pierre's ass in that first fight. That alone should prove your dumb ass rocks. I would like to see someone do what he did in this era.
hughes was losing that fight against GSP, until he pulled out an arm bar from off his back. GSP beat BJ twice, so i don't know where you're getting this "he got whooped by BJ" logic. BJ was good, and should have been great, but his messing with his weight, never training seriously, always gassing out..... he's just never been that good. All his wins came when the ufc was still young and not everyone was well rounded in jiu jitsu. above a verage at best.
