Such a unique singing voice that made you smile on the happy songs, and sad on the hurting ones. “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” got me hooked on the BJ Thomas feeling some 50 years ago. Heaven has one of the very best now!
Thanks so much Joe for posting this. It's hard to realize that BJ along with members of The Memphis Boys are no longer with us today. But on the other hand, the wonderful music they all created can be with us indefinitely. RIP guys. I will always appreciate the contributions you all made.
My friends and I saw B.J. In Montgomery Alabama at the 1970 Summer Big Bam Show, at the Garrett Coliseum! B.J. walks out on stage and 100’s of teenage girls went nuts! Alabama State Troopers were security, and they were having to drag the girls off the stage! For a country boy attending his first major concert, a site I’ll never forget! Rest In Peace B.J.! Thanks Joe!💫
I remember as a small child hearing Rain Drops Keep Falling on my head. Bj Thomas, Glenn Campbell, take me way back. Thanks for the wonderful songs, you will be missed.
It's hard to believe all the great songs B. J. cut here in Memphis and elsewhere over the years. And to think of all the great performers that we have lost this year. I just heard today that Tommy West of Cashman and West, who produced Jim Croce, Anne Murray, Ed Bruce and many others has passed away too. Far too many great performers are gone. It's great that you have these memories to preserve the great moments.
I had no idea BJ was gone.. his music brings back so many memories.. he had a voice that you would know in a second, and very beautiful I might add.... thanks Joe.
BJ was always able to put his heart into a song. A comment here mentions ‘I’m So Lonesome I could Cry.’ If his singing on this song doesn’t caress your heart, you’re not alive.
Thanks for sharing this clip Joe. I never heard BJ Thomas sing a song I didn't like. I don't know which songs he picked versus which ones were picked for him but he gave every song everything he had. When BJ Thomas sang one of your songs, you were a lucky person.
So nice to be able to see a few extra moments of them all, the musicians and B.J. Thomas. Ran down the rabbit hole watching his videos the night I heard that he passed. I imagine I wasn't alone.
